Are you sure these are actually used yet?
Until a month ago the infrastructure of the ports didn't even support the
build-profiles
syntax. Thus porters were actually unhappy about the build-profile support
added to x264.

And even though x264 has build-profile support for stage1, it isn't build on
mips64el, yet.
So it probably still requires manual work of the porters.

It might be a better long-term solution, though.

Best regards,
Andreas

You are currently maintaining 111(!) packages, most of them single

Hello,

I was looking at the various dependencies of the -ffmpeg packages, and it seems
to me some of them are a bit superfluous. For example:

- Do we really need 2 different MP3 encoders (libmp3lame and libshine)?
- Given the libmp3lame support, what's the purpose of libtwolame?
- What is the purpose of the libopenjpeg support given that ffmpeg has its
  own built-in JPEG2000 encoder/decoder?

Other stuff seems a bit niche to me (e.g. the libzmq thing in libavfilter), but
I guess someone could find that useful.

I mean, if people actually ask for these features then I see no problem, but
you might want to reduce the number of dependencies otherwise, to reduce the
attack surface of the ffmpeg packages.

Any thought?

Cheers

Hello Dear, Am Mr. Henry James!

2015-09-22 Thread Mr. Henry James
*Good Day,*

*I am contacting you in this way because of the need and urgency of this
transaction.*

*First, Let me introduce myself and this business opportunity to you. My
Name is Mr. Henry James and I work with Benin Mines & Industry and also the
Head of Finance/contract approval department. I wish to know if we can work
together?*

*Really I do not know how best to begin. I am afraid, Not because of I am
not sure of my plans or myself but because I am not sure the kind of person
you are and what would be your reaction if I open up to you. My plea
therefore is that you take me as one who trusts you and help me keep this
matter between you and I only, whether you want to do business with me or
not.*

*Where I work, there are so many opportunities for making large money
without stress. All that is required is having a trusted partner and
confidant from outside my country who can maintain some degree of secrecy
and who has a high degree of business acumen to harness the funds that I
shall place in his/her custody. I guess your company could be a better plan
for this arrangement.*

*For instance, I have the capacity to move the sum of (Euro 9,800,000.00)
to your account in any part of the world provided you and I agree on
equitable sharing formula between both of us on successful transfer of the
funds to your account. I need your co-operation to the extent that you
assume the position of a contractor who executed a certain contract
(Details of Contract to be provided later) in 2011 and you are receiving
the said fund for the contract which was done by your company.*

*I would like to use my position in the office to recommend you as the
business partner to a deceased contractor name (with held) so that you can
receive the fund for our own benefits. The deceased contractor has unpaid
contract balance payment of (Euro 9,800,000.00) for supply and installation
of Industrial Equipment to our Industry.*

*He died a month after the completion of the contract project without any
registered business partner in his file.*

*If you are interested, please let me have your telephone number and full
names to enable me give you comprehensive details on what we are to do to
get this transaction concluded.I look forward for your quick response.*

*Yours Faithfully,*
*Mr . Henry James*

*NOTE: THERE IS ABSOLUTELY GOING TO BE GREAT DOUBT AND DISTRUST IN YOUR
HEART IN RESPECT TO THIS EMAIL COUPLED WITH THE FACT THAT SO MANY
MISCREANTS AND IMPOSTORS (FRAUDSTERS) HAVE TAKEN POSSESSION OF THE INTERNET
TO FACILITATE THEIR NEFARIOUS DEEDS, THEREBY MAKING IT EXTREMELY DIFFICULT
FOR GENUINE AND LEGITIMATE BUSINESS CLASS PERSONS TO GET ATTENTION AND
RECOGNITION.*

The xbmc packages have been turned into transition package to kodi but
the transition packages are uninstallable due to the unversioned
breaks/replaces in kodi. Please version the breaks/replaces so they only

It will always work, FTP Masters nor dpkg-buildpackage won't reject it. :-)
It is just obsolete IMO.
In my packages I let porters decide on those matters, I never disable
build-dependencies like those on my own.
If a dependency becomes available, my package will build, too. I think
porters prefer this way, too.

Cheers,
Balint

Your package has been put into the NEW queue, which requires manual action
from the ftpteam to process. The upload was otherwise valid (it had a good

Agree.

Jaromir, don't get infected by the "impostor syndrome"! ;-)

I often was about giving up my NM process because I felt "not skilled
enough" for the project.
But in the end, I found out that you acquire skills working on the
stuff you like.

I haven't sponsored any of your packages, but you'll have another
advocate here if you decide to apply. ;P
Think about it, really.

That you currently cannot do so indicates that you have packages installed

* Have you done an upgrade and dist-upgrade recently?

* Have you taken the opportunity to remove packages that are no longer
installable? There's a chance that you have old libraries around that you no
longer need. (apt-get autoremove can help with this).

* Have you actually removed the packages from deb-multimedia? You said
earlier that you removed that entry from your sources.list but that is not
the same thing as removing the problematic packages. The output of "aptitude
search ~o" or "aptitude search ~Vdmo" might help find them.

This is precisely the sort of problems that having packages from deb-
multimedia.org installed causes. (Those packages are also good at causing
random crashes that are very hard to debug -- it's not hard to see why
maintainers aren't interested in bug reports from systems that have these
packages installed).

Re: hydrogen-drumkits package

2015-09-22 Thread trebmuh

Hi all,

Reading at this discussion, I'd just want to mention that dispite this
package is called "hydrogen-drumkits", it does install other stuffs as
well, demo songs in circumstances.

If you guys are working around this package, it might be the right time
to switch it to "hydrogen-data-extra" or something around this line.

Leaving this thought to your wisdom now,
best,
Olivier

even though you allow use to pick any license we want, i would like to
ask you which of the following options you woule prefer:

- [GPL2+] GPL v2 and above
this is a strong copyleft license, ensuring that your work and any

this is a very liberal license, allowing users to do virtually everything

Why not?

All other ffmpeg build-dependencies have already been built there.

Exactly. The cycles involve frei0r, opencv and x264.

They will also be resolved with this change, which won't require
any manual intervention from mips64el porters.
Then x264 and opencv (and after that frei0r) can build, so that they
can be re-enabled on mips64el with the next ffmpeg upload.

I've done the same for x32 and it worked fine.

If this is a real question, you could ask Manjaro's maintainers. The
same "transition" happened there and I didn't even notice it. Not a
single broken package! Or is Manjaro sh*t too, as Matteo believed about

Please, pay a visit to:

https://wiki.debian.org/DebianMultimedia/FAQ#Does_the_team_coordinate_package_maintenance_with_dmo.3F

You'll discover that it's not my personal point of view about dmo, but
it's team agreed to avoid any effort (in time and manpower) to fix
issues caused by those packages.

Cheers.

More important than having all the skills is to know when and where to
look/ask for solutions. I also think you should apply to DD.

Bug#798341: [inkscape] impossible to install inkscape

@ Stuart

Hi,

Thank you for the info!

I'm not a new Debian user: when I said I removed deb-multimedia, I
implicitly meant I removed all its packages too, although I reinstalled
them after I realized deb-multimedia was innocent -- because I needed them.

I think you might know that the problem is deeper than Inkscape's case.
Several reports could be made for packages that aren't even remotely
related to deb-multimedia.

Last but not least, I like Debian and hope it won't have a fate like
that of Gnome3, although I see similarities in attitudes nowadays.

Apart from the inkscape issue. Could you please tell us which packages
from d-m.o you really need? Because, you know, we have already
incorporated many of them into the official Debian archive and would
really like to know which ones are considered missing.

It's a bit unfortunate that Debian doesn't do mass rebuilds of all
packages, so transitions could happen "at once". Instead, packages are
rebuilt one after another, often after manual intervention, and thus
reach testing one after another, rendering packages in testing
uninstallable until other rebuilt packages follow...

Not sure what you mean here. But raising the finger while being vague
about what features are considered missing (first paragraph) or what
issues are encountered with other packages (second paragraph) is
unfortunately not very helpful. :/

Why not use stage1 build - profile , which is what is used by the porters
precisely for this AFAIK?
