Ah, right, it didn't occur to me that there was a hardware component
involved.

I had initially thought about it, but installing older versions from
snapshot can often turn into a recursive nightmare when many libraries
are involved. I imagined this would be the case for mpv. Turns out I
was dead wrong. :)

(I was further surprised at how smooth and painless bisecting was.
Pretty much the exact opposite of my previous experience with MPlayer
years ago.)

Did you mean "bt full"? Good point. Thanks!

Bug#853849: vlc: VLC should detect pause and activate screensaver

2017-02-01 Thread Bert Schlumwig
Package: src:vlc
Version: 2.2.4-13
Severity: wishlist

Hi!

When I am watching a movie and pausing it, VLC still suppresses xscreensaver +
kscreensaver. I think it would be really nice if VLC detects the pause and
then allows the screensavers to do their magic.

Cheers,
Bert

Bug#853847: vlc: After suspend VLC does not suppress xscreensaver during playback

2017-02-01 Thread Bert Schlumwig
Package: src:vlc
Version: 2.2.4-13
Severity: normal

Hi!

After resuming my machine from suspend to ram VLC does not suppress
xscreensaver although i am playing a movie.
This is not the case when i did not put my machine to suspend mode before (i.e.
after a fresh reboot).
In this scenario I have either to deactivate xscreensaver while watching the
movie, or i
have to move the mouse constantly to prevent xscreensaver from blanking my
screen.

Steps to reproduce:

1. suspend the machine to ram
2. resume the machine
3. start videoplayback in VLC
4. after the defined time in xscreensaver it will blank the screen while VLC is
still in playback

I am using Lxqt as desktop.

Here is the output from vlc -vvv:

Procedure is that the package maintainer (doublechecks your findings,
and) change relevant URLs in debian/control and debian/copyright, and
release a new package.

Dear Maintainer,

http://www.rtmpd.com/ is dead and gone, as is svn access.

The author seems to have mirrored his sources on github:

https://github.com/shiretu/crtmpserver

What is the procedure for moving to a new upstream?

Unfortunately I can't reproduce this issue (I don't have any TV input
devices except a webcam which works OK) so I'm not sure there's much
that I can do but there are some things you could try:

- Try building upstream git mpv. If that also fails you can report a bug
upstream and they can have a look at it.

- Does the segfault happen with older versions of mpv? You can find them
here: http://snapshot.debian.org/package/mpv/

- Running "bt all" in gdb might be useful.

- Running mpv in valgrind might also help (if the bug is memory related).

Whatever the bug is, it seems likely that the "chan" pointer
(0x5a0005) is garbage so the bug may be in open_tv.

Thanks,
James

Source: gsequencer
Version: 0.7.122-1
Severity: serious
Justification: release team consensus

This package build-depends on oss4-dev, which is built by RC-buggy source
package oss4.

I discussed this with some release team members and their opinion is that
oss4 should only be used on non-Linux architectures: on Linux, we should be
using ALSA, either directly or via intermediaries like PulseAudio.
Please restrict the build-dependency to oss4-dev [kfreebsd-any] or possibly
oss4-dev [kfreebsd-any hurd-any], and set the configure options so OSS is
only requested on those architectures, similar to what is done in
vlc (>= 2.2.0~pre3-1).
