2014-06-28 Thread Jason Pleau

Here's another link (from gentoo) with the same bug

Apparently something is up with glib2 and gobject

Bug#752544: Additionnal info

2014-06-28 Thread Jason Pleau

Hello.

I have noticed that while running apt-get build-dep vlc, I got this error:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 libfluidsynth-dev : Depends: libjack-dev or
  libjack-jackd2-dev but it is not going to
be installed

E: Build-dependencies for vlc could not be satisfied.

I couldn't install libjack-dev as one of it's dependency (libjack0-dev)
would have removed another package that I had. Instead I had
libjack-jackd2-dev installed.

So I went ahead and removed conflicting packages, and installed
libjack0-dev successfully (thinking it could have been the source of my
issue)

However, I am still getting the same compilation error, and I am not
sure how to provide more helpful information. Can you point me in the
right direction ?

Thanks

Jason

Bug#752544: vlc: source package fails to compile

2014-06-24 Thread Jason Pleau
Package: vlc
Version: 2.1.4-1+b2
Severity: serious
Tags: lfs
Justification: fails to build from source (but built successfully in the past)

Dear Maintainer,

vlc-2.1.4-1 currently fails to compile on my amd64 (unstable) system.

- To reproduce:

 1. download the source package with apt-get source vlc (need build-deps as
well)

2. build the package.

- Expected outcome: package is built and a .deb is generated

- Current outcome: Package fails to build with this error:

Making all in bin
make[2]: Entering directory '/home/oxez/vlc/vlc-2.1.4/bin'
  GEN  ../modules/plugins.dat
/bin/bash: line 4: 17992 Segmentation fault  ./vlc-cache-gen ../modules
Makefile:1538: recipe for target '../modules/plugins.dat' failed
make[2]: *** [../modules/plugins.dat] Error 139
make[2]: Leaving directory '/home/oxez/vlc/vlc-2.1.4/bin'

- How to build the package successfully :

The package can be built by using first: export
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libgobject-2.0.so.0

Bug#752544: vlc: source package fails to compile

2014-06-24 Thread Jason Pleau
I have made a mistake in my report

The correct parameter to LD_PRELOAD to fix the compilation is :

LD_PRELOAD="/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgobject-2.0.so.0"

Thank you

Bug#748971: same problem with "media/open file"

2014-06-22 Thread Jason Pleau
Out of curiosity, would you be running VLC with a GTK+ style?

I have the same issue, except if I swap to another style (for example
Clearlooks) then everything works perfectly.

Even more, using the GTK+ style, it crashes when I use specific GTK2
themes. I am using "Greybird" right now, and VLC crashes when opening
"Media / Open file". Swapping GTK themes fixes the issue.

I have pin-pointed the crash to a few lines in this GTK theme (the
sidebad_active.png file must exist)

style "test-crash-sidepane"
{
engine "pixmap" {

image {
function = FLAT_BOX
file = "sidebar_active.png"
}
}
}
widget_class
"*GtkFileChooserWidget.GtkFileChooserDefault.GtkVBox.GtkHPaned.GtkVBox.GtkScrolledWindow.GtkTreeView*"
style
"test-crash-sidepane"
