Bug#831551: RM: mtasc -- ROM; obsoleted by newer standard web technologies

2017-12-22 Thread Paul Wise
Control: severity -1 serious
Control: severity 831553 normal

Hi everyone,

The buster cycle is the right time to remove mtasc from the Debian
archive. It has been unmaintained in Debian and upstream for years. The
web ecosystem is moving away from Flash towards standard web tech,
which can now replace most use of Flash. Debian should encourage our
upstreams to move towards standard web tech like HTML5 and JavaScript.

Please talk to your upstreams about transitioning away from
ActionScript 2 towards HTML5 JavaScript. If they need to still
support Flash for some users, then they should switch to something
like Haxe but they should not build Flash files by default.

Please put the full Xorg log on paste.debian.net.

The GPU package is libgl1-mesa-dri, video decoding is a completely
separate matter, no idea about that but I guess the ffmpeg commit you
mentioned would have to reach Debian for that.

Since the CuBox i* series of devices use Vivante GPUs and there are
reverse engineered libre drivers called etnaviv for these GPUs, you
should be able to get graphics using solely Debian main and no
proprietary extensions. I note the etnaviv support for libdrm is in
Debian buster and later and the etnaviv support for mesa is in Debian
sid and later. If you would like this on Debian stretch or earlier you
would have to backport Linux, mesa, libdrm and possibly some other
things.

That isn't going to fix the RC bug.

The only options are:

 * Generate the xbmc versions in a different way.
 * Move the xbmc transitional packages back to xbmc

You can have different version numbers between source and binary
packages. So src:kodi 16.1+dfsg1-2 can build xbmc 2:13.2+dfsg1-6.

You may also want to drop the orig.tar.gz from xbmc too.

I added a check for running the opencolladavalidator tool to the
check-all-the-things tool. When I run opencolladavalidator it says the
file I'm checking is compliant with the spec. That isn't useful to know
for check-all-the-things users so I've had to grep -v for valid files.
It would be nice if there was a --quiet option to only print warnings
and errors about invalid files, or if that were the default.

Unfortunately I can't reproduce the gnome-shell crash so I can't
reproduce the bug using the test program. I ran the test program and
attached/detached my external monitor but didn't get any crash.
If this bug isn't useful, perhaps it should be closed?

Can it just use whatever fonts the user has installed already? This is
the way normal programs operate.

the dpkg-maintscript-helper support provided by dh_installdeb, since it
will leave the file there if the sysadmin has customised it, since the
sysadmin might want to keep the changes.

So, I'm (finally) closing this bug report.

I'm sorry but this does not resolve the issue, it simply turns the
results from an arbitrary file overwrite to a denial of service (prevent
other users from autosaving).

Saving in /tmp at all is completely the wrong solution. The right thing
to do is to either use a random path in $TMPDIR using mkstemp etc or to
use somewhere under $HOME, preferably following the XDG basedir spec:

Thanks for your time and efforts.

Sorry I didn't notice this bug closing, but did you check that this
problem was fixed? It certainly is not fixed on wheezy (see below).

This bug has occurred and been fixed before (#298167) and it is a bit
disappointing that it was fixed in 2.37a-1 and then again by a different
maintainer and the maintainer after that didn't preserve those fixes.
Security team, can we get a CVE assigned for this? Perhaps that would
get people to fix it for good. The consequences are arbitrary file
creation or overwrite on a multi-user system:

Bug#652533: mplayer: segfault playing NASA videos (GIF89a in MOV)

2011-12-18 Thread Paul Wise
Package: mplayer
Version: 2:1.0~rc4.dfsg1+svn33713-5
Severity: important

I note that mplayer crashes when playing a couple of NASA videos. These
videos don't cause vlc/ffplay/totem to crash. It looks like it is
crashing in the GIF decoding code of libav but is only triggered by
mplayer. Please reassign this bug to libav if it turns out that is where
the problem is.

After upgrading to sid vlc plus libav from sid in an attempt to get it

Bug#614338: common.h needs to include stdint.h

2011-02-20 Thread Paul Wise
Package: libavutil-dev
Version: 4:0.6.1-5
Severity: important
File: /usr/include/libavutil/common.h

common.h uses UINT64_C but does not define it so apps that use libavutil
but don't use stdint.h will have build issues. I ran into this while
trying to enable ffmpeg support in jugglemaster.

Followup to that:

The code I was trying to build is C++ so this needs to be added before
any inclusion of stdint.h otherwise the code isn't C++ compatible.

Bug#613332: vainfo segfaults with libva* / i965-va-driver version mismatch

2011-02-13 Thread Paul Wise
Source: libva
Severity: normal

I get segfaults in vainfo when libva* are 1.0.1 and i965-va-driver is
1.0.8. I also get segfaults in vainfo when libva* are 1.0.8 and
i965-va-driver is 1.0.1. I expect there is some sort of ABI for the
driver that needs to be depended on properly. Backtraces below:
