Bug#658075: blender: cycles addon missing script files

2012-07-16 Thread Matteo F. Vescovi
Hi!

Finally, I managed to have Cycles support working correctly in Blender.

I'm about uploading a test-build to experimental suite to allow users
testing it and give us some feedback about how it works (if it's stable,
etc etc).

Thanks for your patience.

Cheers!

Good to know! ;-)

Anyhow, keep in mind that Cycles support is not official yet.
So, please don't file bug reports against it for now, but onlyo
once it will be part of Debian official archives.
Indeed, ask me directly about any issue you may find in that
testing-purpose package.

Cheers!

Bug#658075: blender: cycles addon missing script files

2012-05-27 Thread Matteo F. Vescovi

Gosh, you're right!
There are some problems with path here. For this test, if you do:

 # cp -av /usr/share/blender/2.63/scripts/addons/cycles \
   /usr/lib/blender/scripts/addons

as root or in sudo, you're copying the missing files in the right place
and you should be allowed to enable Cycles Render in Blender.

The problem is that (following the Debian Policy) all the scripts were
placed under /usr/lib directory, but Cycles install path (being a new
feature in Debian) was not updated yet.
Sorry for the misleading installation.

Cheers!

Sorry for the question, but how i can test cycles?

I made a test build some days ago, but after 3 days the build-system
deletes it to free hard disk space.

I can build it once again and copy it to a safe location.
Then you need to download the .deb package and install it over the
actual package with dpkg -i package.deb.
Remember that you do this at your own risk! ;-)

Cheers!

Please, find at [1] the package compiled for amd64 architecture.
Test it and let me know how it works (if it's stable... and stuff).
Thanks.

Greetings.

Probably you didn't notice that openimageio builds fine only on i386 and
amd64 architectures[1]. I'm trying to fix it these days.

Besides that, I've already made some tests with Cycles support enabled
on Blender and... surprise surprise, it fails!
I guess we need some more time to fix it. Anyway, if you think you could
spend some efforts in helping us fixing this, feel free to send us
patches and stuff.

Thanks for your patience.

Cheers.

For Cycles to be enabled, OpenImageIO library is mandatory... but we
don't have OIIO in Debian repositories, at the moment.
So, if it's really good stuff that you miss so much, please file a RFP
bug[1] to see OIIO packaged and we'll be very happy to add Cycles
support to Blender.

Thanks.

Cheers,
