Bug#869660: ffmpeg: choppy video playback in Kdenlive & VLC in sid

2017-10-21 Thread Vincent Pinon
Hello,

I don't see the problem anymore, neither on stable/testing/unstable (all
upgraded since then).
I'm sorry my analysis of the situation was not very clear at the time of
reporting, and then I've been very slow to react :(
Please close the ticket...
and thank your for your fantastic work!

Debian's VLC doesn't use the packaged version of FFmpeg so if you see
the issues in VLC, FFmpeg probably isn't to blame.

Stretch has FFmpeg 3.2.5 and sid has 3.2.6, however at the time your
linked thread started, FFmpeg 3.2.6 didn't exist. This means it's likely
they could reproduce it with an old FFmpeg.

Is it possible for you to try different versions of VLC and FFmpeg on
your system to see if they are the problem (eg: just upgrade ffmpeg to
sid)? Could you try other players as well like ffplay or mpv?

Thanks,
James

Bug#869660: ffmpeg: choppy video playback in Kdenlive & VLC in sid

2017-07-25 Thread Vincent Pinon
Package: ffmpeg
Version: 7:3.2.5-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
Upgrading sid around mid july (after few weeks forgetting about it)
suddenly made video programs very uncomfortable to use: noticed in
   Kdenlive, but VLC too.
Problem also reported by other user on Kdenlive forum:
   https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=265=140299

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
I forced downgrade back to stretch. Kdenlive & MLT versions remained
the same, but libavcodec & co changed between 3.2.6 & 3.2.5

   * What was the outcome of this action?
Kdenlive is smooth to use in stretch, but only 1 or 2 fps & choppy
   audio in sid.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
I expect video programs to work in sid.
