Bug#840879: rosegarden: Please announce supported hardware using AppStream
Package: rosegarden Version: 1:16.06-1 Severity: wishlist User: p...@hungry.com Usertags: appstream-modalias Hi. The rosegarden package is one of the packages in the Debian archive that should be proposed for installation when a given hardware dongle is inserted or available. Thanks to the appstream system, this can now be announced in a way other tools can use and act on. I've written the isenkram system to ask the current user if hardware specific packages should be installed when a new dongle is installed or already present on a machine, and isenkram now uses appstream as one source for hardware to package mappings. You can read more about this on my blog, http://people.skolelinux.org/pere/blog/Using_appstream_with_isenkram_to_install_hardware_related_packages_in_Debian.html >. Instructions on how to create the metadata XML file can be found in https://wiki.debian.org/AppStream/Guidelines >. There is also https://wiki.debian.org/USB/GadgetSetup > with hints on how to set up udev rules. It would be great if you could add an appstream metainfo file to the rosegarden package, with content similar to this: [...] usb:*ic01isc03ip* This should suggest rosegarden when a MIDI audio device is available. If there are other hardware ids or kernel modules also supported by the package, please add those too. :) -- Happy hacking Petter Reinholdtsen ___ pkg-multimedia-maintainers mailing list pkg-multimedia-maintainers@lists.alioth.debian.org http://lists.alioth.debian.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/pkg-multimedia-maintainers

Do you agree that it should be possible to click (or double click) on a Rosegarden file in the desktop file manager and get Rosegarden to start automatically? I agree that the approach has some disadvantage, and the one you quotes is the major one, but I believe it is less of a disadvantage for unskilled users than having Rosegarden fail to show up as an alternative when he is trying to open a Rosegarden file in the file manager. I believe it is better to get several options and be able to pick a working one from them than it is to not get any options. -- Happy hacking Petter Reinholdtsen ___ pkg-multimedia-maintainers mailing list pkg-multimedia-maintainers@lists.alioth.debian.org http://lists.alioth.debian.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/pkg-multimedia-maintainers

Package: rosegarden Version: 1:16.02-1 Tags: patch When saving a file in Rosegarden, and then trying to use the KDE file manager to open the file, Rosegarden is not listed as an option for opening the file. Xfce desktop. --- End Message --- --- Begin Message --- Hi, thanks for your thoughts -- unfortunately, rosegarden requires a pdf viewer and a browser (as well as lilypond, another recommended package) for correct operation. These are recommends only to allow someone who really wants to avoid installing them to do so. To be clear, installing rosegarden is not installing KDE at all -- if for some reason you don't already have a pdf viewer or browser installed then apt will try to install them for you and it will take other Qt-based applications as first preference for that functionality. This is quite reasonable since rosegarden is Qt-based. The real problem here seems to be that you've managed to install xfce without one of a browser or pdf viewer installed. (Because you did not use reportbug to report the bug, I do not know which.) Whether this is due to your own local tuning or a deficiency in the xfce packaging I'm not sure, but in either case, you don't need to disable recommends but rather you just need to install the pdf viewer and web browser of your choice. A list of suitable packages for each of those can be seen with apt-cache search pdf-viewer apt-cache search www-browser Have fun, Stuart -- Stuart Prescott--www.nanonanonano.net signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part. --- End Message --- ___ pkg-multimedia-maintainers mailing list pkg-multimedia-maintainers@lists.alioth.debian.org http://lists.alioth.debian.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/pkg-multimedia-maintainers

downgrading recommends in rosegarden
Hi Alessio, I see that you've recently changed the recommends on konqueror and okular down to suggests in rosegarden: diff --git a/debian/control b/debian/control index 871f7b3..f93662e 100644 (file) --- a/debian/control +++ b/debian/control @@ -43,11 +43,11 @@ Recommends: cups-bsd | lpr, ghostscript, jackd, - konqueror | www-browser, lilypond, - okular | pdf-viewer, swh-plugins | ladspa-plugin Suggests: + konqueror | www-browser, + okular | pdf-viewer, qjackctl Description: music editor and MIDI/audio sequencer Rosegarden is a Qt application which provides a mixed Audio/MIDI I don't believe this is a sensible change -- sure a user reported a bug (#652300) suggesting that this be done, but not all bugs are valid and I don't believe this one is. If the user had already installed a pdf viewer and web browser, this wouldn't have been a problem -- perhaps the real bug is that xfce did not do so by default. Now, users will complain that they get weird error messages when trying to view the exported PDF etc. I'd rather have a default installation be functional and leave further tweaking to the local admin if they want it rather than present the user with broken functionality by default and require them to figure out which bits are missing. Does rosegarden generate nice error messages when these soft-depends are not installed? (I thought it used to which is why I left them as Recommends not Depends, but now, all I get is things like: [generic] ProgressDialog::ProgressDialog - "Exporting LilyPond file..." Segmentation fault if lilypond or a pdf viewer are not installed, which is clearly suboptimal, will lead to data loss etc) Personally, I was just about to -done that bug with an explanation of why they are Recommends and why that is the right thing for them. The only reason I'd not done so yet was because I wanted to discuss it with my comaintainers first... My suggestion is to revert that change. Perhaps also looking more into how recent rosegarden behave with missing (optional) dependencies. cheers Stuart -- Stuart Prescott--www.nanonanonano.net signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part. ___ pkg-multimedia-maintainers mailing list pkg-multimedia-maintainers@lists.alioth.debian.org http://lists.alioth.debian.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/pkg-multimedia-maintainers

In the file /usr/share/applications/rosegarden.desktop the MIME type audio/x-flac is listed. The result is that Rosegarden is proposed (or even the default) as an application to open FLAC files on the right-click menu in Nautilus. However, Rosegarden cannot open FLAC files in that manned, so I think the FLAC MIME type should not be listed in the .desktop file. The same goes for OGG files, and probably the MP3 and WAV files as well. Bug#592143: rosegarden: Incorrect MIME type in .desktop file
Package: rosegarden Version: 1:10.04.2-1+b1 Severity: normal Hi! Rosegarden testing needed [was Re: Rosegarden?]
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Dear Jonas, > Rosegarden needs some love. > > If noone objects, I will provide it some - including "infecting" it with > CDBS. A quick look at the current git will show that I have already given it a lot love, updated it to the current upstream version and worked on the packaging substantially. You'll also notice that the packaging does not use cdbs and instead uses dh7 and I'd personally prefer it to stay that way. What Rosegarden really needs now is some testing. It builds fine on a number of archs and has been tested on a couple but I'm not in the position to test whether it behaves nicely with jack. Testers welcome! cheers Stuart -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v1.4.9 (GNU/Linux) iEYEARECAAYFAkvQbRgACgkQn+i4zXHF0agBjACgpLCvBL+ft4et1GJFD0xFN+5q PZIAniu6Tk3c/xXQZz/Pz1uvLIc8MqXv =aNPo -END PGP SIGNATURE- ___ pkg-multimedia-maintainers mailing list pkg-multimedia-maintainers@lists.alioth.debian.org http://lists.alioth.debian.org/mailman/listinfo/pkg-multimedia-maintainers
