Bug#840879: rosegarden: Please announce supported hardware using AppStream

2016-10-15 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen
Package: rosegarden
Version: 1:16.06-1
Severity: wishlist
User: p...@hungry.com
Usertags: appstream-modalias

Hi.

The rosegarden package is one of the packages in the Debian archive that
should be proposed for installation when a given hardware dongle is
inserted or available. Thanks to the appstream system, this can now be
announced in a way other tools can use and act on. I've written the
isenkram system to ask the current user if hardware specific packages
should be installed when a new dongle is installed or already present on
a machine, and isenkram now uses appstream as one source for hardware to
package mappings.

You can read more about this on my blog,
http://people.skolelinux.org/pere/blog/Using_appstream_with_isenkram_to_install_hardware_related_packages_in_Debian.html
 >.

Instructions on how to create the metadata XML file can be found in
https://wiki.debian.org/AppStream/Guidelines >. There is also
https://wiki.debian.org/USB/GadgetSetup > with hints on how to set
up udev rules.

It would be great if you could add an appstream metainfo file to the
rosegarden package, with content similar to this:

   [...]

usb:*ic01isc03ip*

This should suggest rosegarden when a MIDI audio device is available.

If there are other hardware ids or kernel modules also supported by the
package, please add those too. :)

When saving a file in Rosegarden, and then trying to use the KDE file
manager to open the file, Rosegarden is not listed as an option for
opening the file. The reason as far as I understand it is that the MIME
type for the file as reported by file is not listed in the Rosegarden
desktop file. This is the output from file for the file:

  % file somenotes.rg
somenotes.rg: gzip compressed data, from Unix
  % file --mime-type somenotes.rg
  somenotes.rg: application/gzip
  %

While this is the settings in the desktop file:

  % grep Mime /usr/share/applications/rosegarden.desktop

MimeType=audio/x-rosegarden-composition;audio/x-rosegarden-device;audio/x-rosegarden-project;audio/x-rosegarden-template;audio/midi;
  X-KDE-NativeMimeType=audio/x-rosegarden-composition
  %

Until the file program start to return one of the MIME types listed in
the desktop file, I believe the desktop file need to list
application/gzip as a MIME type rosegarden can handle. Can you change
the desktop file? The following patch should work:

--- rosegarden.desktop.orig 2016-05-21 19:37:19.0 +0200

It is probably a good idea to get the Rosegarden files registered with
IANA with an official MIME type. See

for information about the procedure.

Bug#785576: Rosegarden crash due to presence of libqspiaccessiblebridge.so

2016-06-17 Thread Alexis

Lisandro Damián Nicanor Pérez Meyer writes:

You might want to take a look at that file and also try
unsetting QT_ACCESSIBILITY and QT_LINUX_ACCESSIBILITY_ALWAYS_ON

Yes, running `rosegarden` in an environment where
QT_ACCESSIBILITY=0 stops Rosegarden from crashing - thanks! (The
value of QT_LINUX_ACCESSIBILITY_ALWAYS_ON made no difference,
however.)

Maybe someone should file a bug to request the accessibility
maintainers to add an option to disable the bridge system-wide
by default.

Hmm, i would have thought that the place to file a bug would be
with the maintainers of the `qt-at-spi` package, about
libqspiaccessiblebridge.so crashing due to its failure to
initialise memory it had been allocated. i assume that disabling
the bridge system-wide isn't an option for those who need the
bridge to work ?

qt-at-spi in initiated from

./X11/Xsession.d/90qt-a11y

You might want to take a look at that file and also try unsetting
QT_ACCESSIBILITY and QT_LINUX_ACCESSIBILITY_ALWAYS_ON

Maybe someone should file a bug to request the accessibility maintainers to
add an option to disable the bridge system-wide by default.

Bug#785576: Rosegarden crash due to presence of libqspiaccessiblebridge.so

I tried installing qt-at-spi and running rosegarden, and it
still is not crashing when selecting the menus? Is the Orca
screen reader needed too?

The `gnome-orca` package is indeed installed, but i'm not using
it. Trying to remove it results in:

Can you try using valgrind or strace to see if you can figure

i think associating rosegarden with *any* gzip file is more harm than
not being able to open rosegarden files via the file-manager (and i
think this is shat sebastinas also thinks)

>

i think the only valid option is to associate rosegarden with rg files
only (and not with gz files it cannot handle).

however, i don't really see the problem:
afaict, rosegarden.desktop associates with a lot of mimetypes
(audio/x-rosegarden-composition;audio/x-rosegarden-device;audio/x-rosegarden-project;audio/x-rosegarden-template),
but rosegarden.sharedmimeinfo registers "audio/rosegarden" as the
mimetype for .rg files - a mimetype that is *not* listed in the desktop
file.

maybe we should fix this first (and maybe provide a rosegarden.mime file
if this doesn't help).

I'm not convinced that is possible. I've asked about this in
http://bugs.debian.org/825994 >.

Do you agree that it should be possible to click (or double click) on a
Rosegarden file in the desktop file manager and get Rosegarden to start
automatically? If modifying file proves to be impossible, do you have
any idea how to get the file opening to work?

I agree that the approach has some disadvantage, and the one you quotes
is the major one, but I believe it is less of a disadvantage for
unskilled users than having Rosegarden fail to show up as an alternative
when he is trying to open a Rosegarden file in the file manager.

I believe it is better to get several options and be able to pick a
working one from them than it is to not get any options.

No, please don't. Please get file fixed to report the correct mimetype instead.
Adding application/gzip will make rosegarden show up for all gz compressed files
and - even worse - make it the default program for application/gzip as long as
there is no other application/gzip handler with sorts before rosegarden or there
is default handler set by the DE. We already have enough of the "PDFs open in
GIMP per default" or "text files open with editor from wine" madness.

Bug#825993: Rosegarden is not proposed when opening .rg files

2016-06-01 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

Package: rosegarden
Version: 1:16.02-1
Tags: patch

When saving a file in Rosegarden, and then trying to use the KDE file
manager to open the file, Rosegarden is not listed as an option for
opening the file. The reason as far as I understand it is that the MIME
type for the file as reported by file is not listed in the Rosegarden
desktop file. This is the output from file for the file:

  % file somenotes.rg
somenotes.rg: gzip compressed data, from Unix
  % file --mime-type somenotes.rg
  somenotes.rg: application/gzip
  %

While this is the settings in the desktop file:

  % grep Mime /usr/share/applications/rosegarden.desktop

MimeType=audio/x-rosegarden-composition;audio/x-rosegarden-device;audio/x-rosegarden-project;audio/x-rosegarden-template;audio/midi;
  X-KDE-NativeMimeType=audio/x-rosegarden-composition
  %

Until the file program start to return one of the MIME types listed in
the desktop file, I believe the desktop file need to list
application/gzip as a MIME type rosegarden can handle. Can you change
the desktop file? The following patch should work:

--- rosegarden.desktop.orig 2016-05-21 19:37:19.0 +0200

It is probably a good idea to get the Rosegarden files registered with
IANA with an official MIME type. See

2016-04-10 Thread Alexis

Just wanted to add that i too experience this issue, which i've
worked around by renaming:

/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt4/plugins/accessiblebridge/libqspiaccessiblebridge.so

to:

/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt4/plugins/accessiblebridge/.libqspiaccessiblebridge.so

(i can't simply uninstall the qt-at-spi package, as that's

Hi Günther,

thanks for providing more information. We're still stuck on this as none of
the other multimedia maintainers or the Qt maintainers that I've spoken to can
reproduce the crash.

> Anyway, surfing around brought me to a Ubuntu Bug concerning qt-at-spi (QTs

This is a useful insight -- unfortunately, I still can't actually find anyone
who can make it crash with or without qt-at-spi installed.

While this bug certainly makes rosegarden unusable for you, that's not the
general case so I've lowered the severity accordingly.

cheers

It would help if you were able to get a backtrace to work out where this was

I'm running JACK 0.2.20 on a PII-255 with 256 MiB RAM and a kernel
rebuilt with Realtime-LSM, pre-emption and PII optimisations. The kernel
is left with 250Hz resolution.

On startup, I get the message:

System timer resolution is too low
Rosegarden was unable to find a high-resolution timing source for MIDI
performance.
This may mean you are using a Linux system with the kernel timer
resolution set too low. Please contact your Linux distributor for more
information.

I get the same error if I rebuild the kernel with 1000 Hz ticks.

On boot-up I get the message:

Do you have any advice about this error?

With newer rosegarden, the warning message contains suitable advice about
using real-time kernels or sound controllers.

I think that deals with this issue as much as can be done.

Bug#740201: rosegarden: Rosegarden has been built in "debug" mode

2014-02-26 Thread Ross Gammon
Package: rosegarden
Version: 1:13.04-1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch
User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com
Usertags: origin-ubuntu trusty ubuntu-patch

Dear Maintainer,

What led up to the situation?
Ran Rosegarden in a terminal.

What was the outcome of this action?
Lots of debugging messages are output to the terminal.

What outcome did you expect instead?
For a production system, the debugging option should probably be switched off.
A patch for debian/rules will be supplied in a minute. Thanks for considering
the it.

This is Ubuntu Bug:

Bug#694406: rosegarden: Exporting file with umlaut in file name, the name is incorrectly saved

2012-11-26 Thread Paul Menzel
Package: rosegarden
Version: 1:12.04-1
Severity: important
Tags: upstream fixed-upstream
Control: forwarded -1 https://sourceforge.net/p/rosegarden/bugs/1375/

Dear Maintainer,

exporting files (not saving, which works) with umlauts or other special
characters in their file name saves the filename incorrectly as reported
upstream in #1375 [1].

Thanks D. Michael McIntyre, this issue has been fixed in upstream
revision 13151 [2].

It would be awesome, if this patch was backported to Rosegarden 12.04-1
in Debian Wheezy.

Thanks,

Paul

I just noticed that GNOME uses the Comment entry of desktop files to
show a tooltip when hovering the mouse pointer over a menu entry.
Therefore the Comment entry needs a German L10n.
The attached patch fixes this issue.

The package fails to build in a test rebuild on at least amd64 with
gcc-4.7/g++-4.7, but succeeds to build with gcc-4.6/g++-4.6. The
severity of this report may be raised before the wheezy release.

src/base/Sets.h:446:26: error: 'getAsEvent' was not declared in this scope, and
no declarations were found by argument-dependent lookup at the point of
instantiation [-fpermissive]

The full build log can be found at:
http://people.debian.org/~lucas/logs/2012/03/29-clang-gcc47/unstable-gcc47/rosegarden_1:11.11.42-1_unstable-gcc47.log
The last lines of the build log are at the end of this report.

Some hints on fixing these issues can be found at
http://gcc.gnu.org/gcc-4.7/porting_to.html

To build with GCC 4.7, either set CC=gcc-4.7 CXX=g++-4.7 explicitly,
or install the gcc, g++, gfortran, ... packages from experimental.

Dear Maintainer,

Recording audio using Rosegarden crashes the program as the audio preview is
generated if wavpack is not installed. The audio was successfully recorded in
the ~/rosegarden folder. I tried to open it with a new instance of Rosegarden
and got an error message about needing wavpack to do so. I installed wavepack
and audio recording works normally.

As, for example, jackd is needed for audio recording in Rosegarden and is
listed as a recommend, I think wavpack should also be a recommend.

rosegarden override disparity

2012-05-13 Thread Debian FTP Masters
There are disparities between your recently accepted upload and the
override file for the following file(s):

rosegarden_12.04-1_amd64.deb: package says priority is optional, override says
extra.

Please note that a list of new sections were recently added to the
archive: cli-mono, database, debug, fonts, gnu-r, gnustep, haskell,
httpd, java, kernel, lisp, localization, ocaml, php, ruby, vcs, video,
xfce, zope. At this time a script was used to reclassify packages into
these sections. If this is the case, please only reply to this email if
the new section is inappropriate, otherwise please update your package
at the next upload.

Either the package or the override file is incorrect. If you think
the override is correct and the package wrong please fix the package
so that this disparity is fixed in the next upload. If you feel the
override is incorrect then please file a bug against ftp.debian.org and
explain why. Please INCLUDE the list of packages as seen above, or we
won't be able to deal with your request due to missing information.

Please make sure that the subject of the bug you file follows the
following format:

Subject: override: BINARY1:section/priority, [...], BINARYX:section/priority

Include the justification for the change in the body of the mail please.

[NB: this is an automatically generated mail; if you already filed a bug
and have not received a response yet, please ignore this mail. Your bug
needs to be processed by a human and will be in due course, but until
then the installer will send these automated mails; sorry.]

show a tooltip when hovering the mouse pointer over a menu entry.
Therefore the Comment entry needs a German L10n.

Package: rosegarden
Version: 1:11.11.42-1
Severity: important
Tags: sid wheezy
User: debian-...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: ftbfs-gcc-4.7

The package fails to build in a test rebuild on at least amd64 with
gcc-4.7/g++-4.7, but succeeds to build with gcc-4.6/g++-4.6. The
severity of this report may be raised before the wheezy release.

src/base/Sets.h:446:26: error: 'getAsEvent' was not declared in this scope, and
no declarations were found by argument-dependent lookup at the point of

Some hints on fixing these issues can be found at

rosegarden override disparity

2011-12-24 Thread Debian FTP Masters
There are disparities between your recently accepted upload and the
override file for the following file(s):

rosegarden_11.11.42-1_amd64.deb: package says priority is optional, override
says extra.

Hi,

thanks for your thoughts -- unfortunately, rosegarden requires a pdf viewer
and a browser (as well as lilypond, another recommended package) for correct
operation. These are recommends only to allow someone who really wants to
avoid installing them to do so.

To be clear, installing rosegarden is not installing KDE at all -- if for some
reason you don't already have a pdf viewer or browser installed then apt will
try to install them for you and it will take other Qt-based applications as
first preference for that functionality. This is quite reasonable since
rosegarden is Qt-based.

The real problem here seems to be that you've managed to install xfce without
one of a browser or pdf viewer installed. (Because you did not use reportbug
to report the bug, I do not know which.) Whether this is due to your own local
tuning or a deficiency in the xfce packaging I'm not sure, but in either case,
you don't need to disable recommends but rather you just need to install the
pdf viewer and web browser of your choice. A list of suitable packages for
each of those can be seen with

apt-cache search pdf-viewer
apt-cache search www-browser

Have fun,
Stuart

downgrading recommends in rosegarden

2011-12-16 Thread Stuart Prescott
Hi Alessio,

I see that you've recently changed the recommends on konqueror and okular down
to suggests in rosegarden:

diff --git a/debian/control b/debian/control
index 871f7b3..f93662e 100644 (file)
--- a/debian/control
+++ b/debian/control

 Suggests:
+ konqueror | www-browser,
+ okular | pdf-viewer,
  qjackctl
Description: music editor and MIDI/audio sequencer
Rosegarden is a Qt application which provides a mixed Audio/MIDI

I don't believe this is a sensible change -- sure a user reported a bug
(#652300) suggesting that this be done, but not all bugs are valid and I don't
believe this one is.

If the user had already installed a pdf viewer and web browser, this wouldn't
have been a problem -- perhaps the real bug is that xfce did not do so by
default. Now, users will complain that they get weird error messages when
trying to view the exported PDF etc. I'd rather have a default installation be
functional and leave further tweaking to the local admin if they want it
rather than present the user with broken functionality by default and require
them to figure out which bits are missing.

Does rosegarden generate nice error messages when these soft-depends are not
installed? (I thought it used to which is why I left them as Recommends not
Depends, but now, all I get is things like:

[generic] ProgressDialog::ProgressDialog - "Exporting LilyPond file..."
Segmentation fault

if lilypond or a pdf viewer are not installed, which is clearly suboptimal,
will lead to data loss etc)

Personally, I was just about to -done that bug with an explanation of why they
are Recommends and why that is the right thing for them. The only reason I'd
not done so yet was because I wanted to discuss it with my comaintainers
first...

My suggestion is to revert that change. Perhaps also looking more into how
recent rosegarden behave with missing (optional) dependencies.

cheers
Stuart

Within "Configure Rosegarden", under "General" and "Behaviour", there is a

rosegarden override disparity

2011-05-23 Thread Debian FTP Masters
There are disparities between your recently accepted upload and the
override file for the following file(s):

rosegarden_11.06-1_amd64.deb: package says priority is optional, override says

Package: rosegarden
Version: 2.1-3
Severity: wishlist

When I select "Notate" or "Sequence" in the rosegarden main menu, I get
the following messages displayed on my terminal:

Rosegarden: Looking up Petal filters for Editor...
Rosegarden: no filter directory `/nethome/schwarz/.rosepetal-filters'
 ... found "Harmonize" in
/usr/X11R6/lib/rosegarden/rosepetal-filters/harmonizer.tcl
 ... found "Instantiate Pattern" in
/usr/X11R6/lib/rosegarden/rosepetal-filters/pattern.tcl

Standard UNIX behaviour is to not display any messages unless there are
errors. Thus, it would be nice if these messages would be turned off by
default (perhaps add a `-v' option to turn them back on, on demand).

BTW, rosegarden does not have a manual page and `$ rosegarden --help' just
starts the program as usual. Please add a simple manual page explaining
the possible command line options.

Thanks,

Chris

Hi!

In the file

/usr/share/applications/rosegarden.desktop

the MIME type audio/x-flac is listed.

The result is that Rosegarden is proposed (or even the default) as an
application
to open FLAC files on the right-click menu in Nautilus.

However, Rosegarden cannot open FLAC files in that manned, so I think the FLAC
MIME type should not be listed in the .desktop file.

The same goes for OGG files, and probably the MP3 and WAV files as well.

Best regards
Torquil Sørensen

Hi,

Running 1:11.02-1 right now and the notation editor doesn't crash the
application anymore. Generally Rosegarden seems to be quite stable,
however I haven't been using it that much recently.

rosegarden override disparity

2011-02-27 Thread Debian FTP Masters
There are disparities between your recently accepted upload and the
override file for the following file(s):

rosegarden_11.02-1_amd64.deb: package says priority is optional, override says

Bug#598405: rosegarden randomly segfaults in various situations

2010-12-26 Thread Fonso
Package: rosegarden
Version: 1:10.04.2-1+b1
Severity: normal

I get random segfaults all over the place. Most happen on various actions in
the notation editor, but sometimes
it also crashes in the main view when e.g. merging tracks. I haven't found a
way to deterministically reproduce
any of the crashes, but they are so frequent that in the current state
rosegarden in unusable.

Bug#592143: rosegarden: Incorrect MIME type in .desktop file

2010-08-07 Thread Torquil Macdonald Sørensen
Package: rosegarden
Version: 1:10.04.2-1+b1
Severity: normal

Hi!

Bug#591915: rosegarden: Black text on black background

2010-08-06 Thread Torquil Macdonald Sørensen
Package: rosegarden
Version: 1:10.04.2-1+b1
Severity: normal

Within "Configure Rosegarden", under "General" and "Behaviour", there is a
"Details" button for the Sequencer status. It produces a window that contains
black text on a black background.

Best regards
Torquil Sørensen

Rosegarden testing needed [was Re: Rosegarden?]

A quick look at the current git will show that I have already given it a lot
love, updated it to the current upstream version and worked on the
packaging substantially.

You'll also notice that the packaging does not use cdbs and instead uses dh7
and I'd personally prefer it to stay that way.

What Rosegarden really needs now is some testing. It builds fine on a number
of archs and has been tested on a couple but I'm not in the position to
test whether it behaves nicely with jack.

Testers welcome!

cheers
Stuart
