[DRE-maint] Bug#814476: gitlab writes into /usr/share/gitlab during operation
Package: gitlab Version: 8.4.3+dfsg-3 Severity: serious Justification: Policy 9.1.1 Hi, as per Debian policy §9.1.1, packages must comply with the FHS 2.3 but gitlab is writing log files to /usr/share/gitlab/log/ which violates chapter 4 of the FHS. Quote: "/usr is the second major section of the filesystem. /usr is shareable, read-only data. That means that /usr should be shareable between various FHS-compliant hosts and must not be written to. Any information that is host-specific or varies with time is stored elsewhere." this requirement is currently violated by gitlab. No wonder I couldn't figure out where the log files were :D Log files should go into /var/log/gitlab Thanks! cheers, josch ___ Pkg-ruby-extras-maintainers mailing list Pkg-ruby-extras-maintainers@lists.alioth.debian.org http://lists.alioth.debian.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/pkg-ruby-extras-maintainers
[DRE-maint] Bug#814458: I'll fix it in next upload
Thanks for the report. This is because of the following line, echo "Initializing database..." su ${gitlab_user} -s /bin/sh -c 'bundle exec rake gitlab:setup RAILS_ENV=production force=yes' I will remove that force=yes (created during the testing phase, but never gotten to remove it). On my system I get $ cat /proc/1/cmdline ; echo /sbin/init I think the correct way to test if the system is currently running systemd if by checking if "/run/systemd/system" is an existing directory i.e. `-d "/run/systemd/system"` in shell (that is how /usr/sbin/update-rc.d does it). -- Antonio Terceiro signature.asc Description: PGP signature ___ Pkg-ruby-extras-maintainers mailing list Pkg-ruby-extras-maintainers@lists.alioth.debian.org http://lists.alioth.debian.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/pkg-ruby-extras-maintainers

[DRE-maint] Bug#814458: gitlab postinst deletes existing data from postgresql database
Package: gitlab Version: 8.4.3+dfsg-1 Severity: critical Justification: causes serious data loss Hi, I previously encountered bug #812841, so I left gitlab as unconfigured by apt/dpkg and started it manually using `systemctl start gitlab.target` This seems to have worked well and gitlab was able to make use of the existing database table from my old manual installation of version 7.8.4. Then later I wanted to install an unrelated package, so apt/dpkg were running the gitlab postinst again. As part of the postinst, the database seems to be completely overwritten with new content. All my existing content would've been lost if I hadn't made a backup beforehand. That I now have an empty gitlab instance can be seen from the following output: gitlab@22gitlab:~$ rake gitlab:check RAILS_ENV=production fatal: Not a git repository (or any of the parent directories): .git Checking GitLab Shell ...
