yeah, should have been done by now, and it's a bit too late now
btw, the theme it's in plasma-framework, so its release isn't bound to 5.8
but it shuld be either released in the latest framework at the time of 5.8
release, or be delayed for several months

I was under the impression that this was already well under way...

Note that plasma frameworks freeze is next Saturday (given the recent breaking
changes in the theme I don't feel comfortable with theme changes that late in
the cycle) and the Frameworks release thereafter will be tight for Plasma 5.8
(and also won't be a dependency) so I would think it's too late for 5.8 now?
Especially given how easy it is to get margins wrong in tasks.svgz and 5.8 is
LTS.

I liked the lines better as well.
*but* one actual good point for the argument on blocks was that lines being
vertically asymmetrical can visually throw the centering on the icon off

2016-07-31 Thread Eike Hein
Hi Andreas,

task.svgz is really non-trivial to get right, partly because
the Task Manager has a lot of non-obvious modes. I trust you
guys, but please make sure that any changes to it goes through
Review first and that I get enough time to have a look. I
spent hours (yes, hours of fiddling!) fixing the current one
last time and know all the issues pretty well.

As for the issue - I like the simple look of blocks, but on
the other hand the lines are a pretty unique visual identity
which is nice and recognizable on screenshots. I like the
lines as a visual byline for Plasma.

Eike

I know switch back and forth isn't that good but drive in one direction
and never look back is not better.

the blocks were implemented in 5.5 cause of have a consistent design
between select something in dolphin, krunner, ... but we also have the
lines and I think that the lines fit's better.

we had a pull request in the VDG telegram channel few mounths ago
and the result was clear the lines are prefered but we have to be first
careful (don't jump around with the designs) and find the right design
lines a bit thinner, ...

so should I add something on reviewboard?

I prefer blocks.

Also, we started with lines, people got used to lines,
we changed it to blocks. Now people got used to blocks
and we want to change it back to lines. I don't feel like
the theme should be constantly changing back and forth.

Slightly confused here. Outisde of what ? The boxes ?
Are you talking about a blocks + line combo (assuming that's feasible) ?
That might actually look good, no ? or maybe the tasks get too messed
up, not sure.

Just a thought :-)

Re: task manager lines instead of blocks

2016-07-30 Thread Kai Uwe Broulik
Hi,

I also liked the lines better especially since we now have lines everywhere
(open plasmoid, system tray, tabs) except task manager.

Be careful when messing with tasks.svgz as it's quite easy to screw up the
puddings in there.

As for the icons I prefer the colored tab icons on Kickoff but the leave icons
should be black and white everywhere (not just in Kickoff, but they look pretty
bad on the shutdown screen too) imho.

Cheers,
Kai Uwe

+1. I already use lines because I like them more. Can I suggest to use a line
**under** the icon/text for bottom panel and **above** the icon/text for top
panel? Same for right/left: line nearer the border of the screen. Also, I'd
suggest to make the line at 2px instead of 3 (or 4?) px like in the
screenshot.
