I made a start on the main view, tweaking the existing delegates.

Not quite perfect yet, but pretty close.

I know some people want to rewrite it in QtQuick. /if/ that happens and
this gets thrown away, that's fine with me.

It wasn't deliberate on my part, it just naturally flowed out of the forum
design thread. I agree though, I'm rather in favor of it.

Undo however is in the UI almost always associated with
one step back, whereas doing more settings would undo
more than one step back while still giving the impression
of single step back. Eg. if the user bothers with many settings,
then does one wrong, thinks undo undoes that one step
but all his setting get reset after pressing it.

I think that particular change is rather a step back (heh).

If they add more information than already available (like showing the
module icons) then I think tooltips would be fine.

   - there's a burger menu top right, what would be in it?

That menu would contain the Configure action currently shown as a
toolbutton, plus all the actions we currently have in the dropmenu of the
current Help toolbutton.

Only thing I think we can't do is the subtext in the list on the left.
Probably best to proceed without that, rather than getting too hung up on
 it.

yeah, that part is admittedly aspirational at the moment but better to put
the idea out there as a potential opportunity to perhaps consider in the
longer term rather than something that should prevent anything else from
being implemented in the near term. :-)

Thanks much for the feedback David. Please let us know if there is
anything else we can do from our (VDG) end,

To respond to the very helpful feedback that it can be difficult to dig
through the VDG forums to determine settled design proposals, we have
collected the results of the forum discussion here:

As noted on that page, this is *not* a proposal for the kcm designs; just
the system settings application. So ignore the kcm mockups and focus on the
system settings stuff. As always, we can tweak the proposal, as necessary,
 to adjust to implementation challenges.

It totally helps :)

The main view with the new delegates looks awesome.

Questions:

Technically almost all of this is very do-able.

We know when the save button in each module gets pressed, should be easy to
write the last n to a config file without having to modify each KCM.

Only thing I think we can't do is the subtext in the list on the left.
Probably best to proceed without that, rather than getting too hung up on
it.

what would the left sidebar do in the first mockup where everything is shown?

Those are links to modules in which recent changes were made. Selecting one
would take the user directly to that module.
