Right! I just get both plone-developers and UI lists and didn't see
that the same thread is CC'ed to the UI mailing list as well. Thanks
for pointing to this Laurence.

It was CC'ed to the UI team list:
http://plone.293351.n2.nabble.com/Re-Plone-developers-Should-we-integrate-ACE-into-p-a-theming-td6762177.html

I think it's a great feature but I too am sceptical that the UI can be
finished enough to put it in the control panel for 4.2 (based on our
experience with Dexterity - UIs always take a long time). If it was a
hidden feature like manage-viewlets then perhaps it would be less of a
problem.

I don't think I have seen any email from you to the UI list. Did I
miss it while being on vacation? Or you mean you asked in that long
thread on plone-developers? Anyway, I don't think UI team will be able
to properly review this new UI before 4.2 beta. But I think UI-related
discussion shoulkd be moved to the UI list since not all of the UI
tema members read plone-developers or the Framework lists.

Yeah, definitely. In fact, I specifically asked for their input, though no

To the end-user it's a new feature, if only because it adds new UI.
I'd wager the UI team may want to take a look at that. :-)

I didn't have any chance yet to look at those packages, sorry.

I don't think it's necessarily adding features. It's improving the UI of
something that's already there (but hidden in the ZMI).

I will at one point merge it to p.a.theming and release it. Whether we
include that release in a 4.2 KGS or 4.3 one is probably a bit moot. But if
the FWT wanted it for 4.2, and there was a date for beta, I'd like to know.

Conversely, if the FWT have reservations about the JavaScript libraries
being used, then that'd be good to know before spending much more time
integrating them.

Speaking only for myself: 4.2 is already done. We've decided what goes
in and what doesn't, and it's in the pipeline to become a beta soon. I
feel that at this stage it's too late to add features.

And just to avoid missunderstandings... I don't think that 4.2 is an option,
but 4.3 is.

I can help with drafting that mail to plone-developers as well if Ross needs

[Framework-Team] plone.app.theming editor branch

2011-09-07 Thread Martin Aspeli
Hi,

I'd really like some FWT input on
http://svn.plone.org/svn/plone/plone.app.theming/branches/optilude-ace

Basically, I'm trying to decide whether to put a bunch of effort into
finishing it and getting it merged or not. I'd rather do that if it could
make it into 4.2 final.

The changes basically provide a Plone UI for something you can do in the ZMI
(edit in-ZODB themes) with a nice UI. They are fully backwards compatible,
of course.

They introduce two new JavaScript components used on the editor page (only):
ACE (http://ace.ajax.org/ - Mozilla license) and probably CoreFive
FileManager (http://labs.corefive.com/projects/filemanager/ - MIT license).

Changes still to be made:

 - Integrate file manager to allow basic management of files in a theme
 - Allow any existing theme to be cloned as the starting point for a new
theme
 - UI improvements (input welcome)

There's a thread on this on plone-dev where people are generally positive to
the idea.
