Re: [PLUG] Portland Swift Linux
The first thought I had for a Portland band was Everclear, followed by Seafood Mama / Quarterflash. Make three (four?) versions if you want to include Decemberists as the bands differ quite a bit. [PLUG] Printing envelopes with postage - Linux apps?
Workflow would be simpler in my wife's new office if we could print envelopes with postage - one operation rather than three. There are apps for PC and Mac that do this. Is there anything available for Linux, or a webapp accessable with a browser? I may have to buy a Mac Mini. At least they run BSD, and I can kinda trust one connected to the internet through a firewall. I hope I can bring up a Mac app with SSH -X from Linux desktops elsewhere in the office, perhaps even drive it from a script (permitting more automation). There are apps for PC and Mac that do this. Is there anything available for Linux, or a webapp accessable with a browser? Have you tried loading the Windows app in the latest wine? Dazzle runs on wine, though it is very clunky to use and you have to type your password whenever it starts because of a wine-related(?) bug in retrieving the password from the registry. I keep it running by itself in a VNC session and only speak to it via the XML interface (which is attached with duct tape and activated via the windows command-line). It prints to a postscript file (courtesy of CUPS) and all of this is managed by the app and DB which have much more to do than print postage. Endicia also has an enterprise server solution, which I'm guessing is exactly the same as what you would find by sniffing the network traffic off of the dazzle desktop software, but it took a week for an enterprise sales representative to write back to me with no useful information. I imagine that someone will have to violate the terms of service to make and publish something which allows endicia's customers to use Linux without so much hassle. --Eric -- Like a lot of people, I was mathematically abused as a child. --Paul Graham --- http://scratchcomputing.com --- ___ PLUG mailing list PLUG@lists.pdxlinux.org http://lists.pdxlinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug
