What icon are you referring to?

I didn't know that ... but I just gave it a spin, and it isn't really 
classic ... sort of an unfortunate hybrid ... sigh.  Google says they 
are continuing to try to improve their map and one can hope, I suppose.

   Same one. I did not have that page open when I responded so could not
describe the icon other than by position.

 The only difference I have noticed is that before the (aham)
 'improvements' there was only a single sidebar entry for google maps and now
 there's a new one everytim I navigate or zoom in and out. Just like the new
 version.

One could switch to either Yahoo or Mapquest, both of which do have 
satellite view, but neither of which have street view ... otherwise, 
nice maps, it seems.
