[PLUG] Windows 2000 graphics poor VirtualBox...

2017-05-09 Thread Michael Christopher Robinson
I first attempted to run XID Authoring Database in WINE,
that resulted in cut off text and no rendering of JPG files.
So I switch on my Fedora 25 system to VirtualBox running
Windows 2000, but the graphics are poor. Has anyone gotten the
graphics to be better in VirtualBox or has anyone gotten XID
7.0 to work in Wine? The problem with VirtualBox is that the
mpg files are on Linux and there are a lot of them on an
EXT3/4 formatted file system. Had WINE worked, that may not
have posed a problem.

The graphics in Virtualbox are grainy. The video card is an
NVIDIA GT210, the video is on a 65" Samsung HDTV.

The same JPG files under gnome 3 show up fine in file manager,
but they are grainy in VirtualBox.

Does anyone know of a Linux compatible open source clone of
XID 7.0? I'm starting to think the only reasonable solution
is to make one. Did the company go under? The source code
would be nice.

XID for those who don't know is a Windows 98 and later database
program. It apparently works on Windows 10, but the print
function is broken. The install procedure for it is kludgy, you
are supposed to copy it to the Documents folder executable and
all on Windows.

This Fedora based media computer has been superceded by PLEX, but
the freenas server is shutting down now. I think one of the 4
terabyte drives is failing and probably the one with the movies
on it. With the freenas server shutting down on me, I'm running
9.10 U3, it is hard to know what is lost and what is still there.

[PLUG] Change firefox open tab order

"This stopped working a couple of years ago.

I can move a tap to another position but as soon as I lift my finger from
the trackball button the tab snaps back to its original position."

In my mind there are 3 possible sources to this problem.

1. Feature removal
2. Know issue (Bug)
3. Unknown issue (corruption of FFox install)

1. The tab groups feature was removed in FFox 45. Not sure if that's applicable.
2. The only known tab related issue I could find is when flash is playing in a
tab users have problems switching tabs. Not the same as moving, but possibly
related?
3. For weird issues, Mozzilla support mentions the possibility of a hacked
user.js file. The user.js file doesn't exist by default.

That leaves me to suggest run FFox in safe mode first, then check for a user.js
file and remove it if one is found and then re-install and/or upgrade FFox.

HTH!

I have Adblock Plus 2.8.2 and Classic Theme Restorer 1.6.5, but not
Ghostery, therefore, if the culprit is an extension Ghostery is at the
top of the suspect list. On the other hand, I glanced at the reviews
and didn't see any complaints about tab behavior, although I did note
that it has become a commercial product.

Another thought occurred to me - I have Chromium and Opera as well as
Firefox, and dragging tabs around works the same as it does in Firefox.
If you have any other browsers installed, see if you can drag tabs
around. If so, then the problem is in Firefox, if not, my bet would be
that the problem is some setting in your desktop.

John,

It occrred to me that perhaps ghostery, adblock-plus, or using the
'classic' layout might be the culprit. This is a low priority item (needed
only when a site locks me in and I need to close the tab to escape) so I'll
get to it Real Soon Now.

Why three terms? To ensure that everyone understand the topic. Dif'rent
stokes for dif'rent folks, eh?

Thanks,
