I have an older Lenovo T43 [purchased used several years ago] whose power management software has an option for that. This is a Windows only machine. The only time I pop the lid open is when I want a local console, usually for rebooting into a new kernel. Laptops with a dock make great home servers because the UPS is built in. I've had laptops get too hot on me running with them closed, thats probably why many don't let you do this. A new flexi one like that might not have that problem...
