Dick,

Do you schedule a meeting for yourself to do this testing?

If so I'll set one up and try using two instances of zoom-linux (with a
headset on, not using the webcam's microphone or the external speakers).
I need to learn what screen share shows and how to take it down when

back the sound to make sure that it's not garbled.

Ali,

I checked my headset (the Yamaha CM500, the only one working now) with
pavucontrol. The input VU bar bounced with the radio in the background and
my voice. The output tab showed the headphones selected.

Using that URL in firefox I selected Zoom as the device and confirmed that
the camera and headset worked; I could hear myself speaking as I looked at
the camera's output on the screen.

Now I'd like to learn how to test video and audio using zoom-linux. Should I
set up a meeting and be the only one to log in? What I want also to learn is
if I could use the screen share on small windows to display them at
appropriate times during my presentation.

I suppose there's a web site somewhere with that information and I'll be
sesarching for it this afternoon.

Ben,

Theoretically how would one measure market share for F/OSS? And, market
share for what?

On the topic of security, there is not a single video chat application that
meets the requirements set by the Linux community. They ALL fail basic tests
in various areas be it security, vendor lock-in, or dumb UI/UX decisions.

How's Jitsi?

The ONLY difference from one app to the next is the server it talks to. And
even that is just a variable set by some JSON config file. Given what we know
about Google's business model there is very little guarantee that the data is
being handled ethically since all of this sits on top of Chrome.

In fact, arguing over the difference between different apps is
ridiculous since the majority of them are based on Chrome. Very few of
these apps have any control over how video is collected, processed, and
saved. They all leverage the same exact software to interact with your
mic and webcam.

The same software to connect to the internet.

The same software to display the UI.

The same software.

When I test the mic with pavucontrol I can see the visual 'vu' bar moving so
I know the mic's working.

When I record video tutorials (using vokoscreenNG) I use the webcam and
external mic. When I play back what I've recorded the output goes to the
external speakers.

For Jitsi I've used a headset. Would that be appropriate for a Zoom
presentation to a group or should I use the computer speakers?
