You have a machine that's running an SMTP server or something that can
be used as a smarthost, right? This machine could be used for this.
Have a text file called listofmails.txt that had 1 mailing address per
line. Then put the mail you'd like to send in mailtosend.txt. Then:

for i in `cat listofmails.txt` ; do
   mail -s 'A SUBJECT' $i < mailtosend.txt
   done

Of course, this assumes you have a machine where the mail command
works, which might not always be the case. If you have to use a
different From: address, then this won't work.

listservs can get complicated.

Re: Steam OS was released for all you gamers out there

I was a bit taken aback that it was setup to stripe - sounds like a
disaster waiting to happen. I tried that first time I had dual ssd's
(twice a fast, right?) and lost one after 5 months. All data go poof.
I ended up rebuilding with new disks as mirrors, and never thought to
test fate a second time.

Yeah, welcome to microsoft's sphere of influence - who needs legacy
booting when everyone runs windoze!

I just feel dirty having to make the boot partition fat32 now...

Holy crap. I didn't know those were out there.

Linux command line utility to send to email list?

2013-12-17 Thread joe
What would be the best *simple* command line utility to send an email
message to a small (100) list of email addresses?

I googled for an answer, but only found long, long, very detailed and
complex instructions (that fogged up my feeble mind) about how to set up
a bunch of different things (that I did not understand).

Some hits mentioned that there were perl and other programs to do what I
want, but I have not been able to find them.

I mostly use squirrel mail (gmail seems to cluttered up and complicated
to me), but I am hesitant to send too many cc's or bcc's and would much
prefer to find a program that could send individual emails to each
address in my list of family and friends' email addresses.

Any "Keep it Simple" suggestions?

MEETING TONIGHT: Linux Stammtisch (12/17)

2013-12-17 Thread PLUG Announcements

  A Stammtisch
is a gathering of people with a common interest, so there is
no formal presentation for this PLUG meeting.

We'll be meeting at Iguana Macks at
7pm on Tuesday for PLUG's Linux Stammtisch.

Please come and join us for some good conversation over good
food and drinks, which are both optional... Friends and
family are all welcome.
Come see where the conversation leads this time, it doesn't
just stick exclusively with Linux.  Us Linux geeks are
interested in all sorts of things, so the conversation
always leads to a good time.

The private room that we have has power and high speed WiFi
Internet.  If you have any problems, feel free to bring in
your machine and we'll see what we can do to fix your
problem...  We even have facilities there to do a formal
presentation, so if you have a projector or can let us know
ahead of time to bring one and want to show everyone
something exciting, we can handle that as well.

  Iguana Macks is located
on the South East corner of Knox (half way between
Warner and Ray) and Alma School in Chandler.
  1371 N Alma School Rd ( Map
)
Chandler, Arizona 85224
(480) 899-6735
