A search of Google shows others have had the same issue.  I was

Any suggestions?

Re: modern.IE

2014-08-17 Thread techlists

Hey so I got the Modern.IE configured and it creates an "appliance" that
is imported into the VirtualBox. I downloaded the Modern.IE win7 IE 11
and the VirtualBox for Win7. I was able to import the appliance and it
started with a configuration screen. I put it away for the evening,
however I think I'll complete it sometime tomorrow and will share my
experience or ask any questions if I get stuck!!

I really like Mint 17 KDE and I think I am really going to enjoy this
visualization. Lots to learn...

Thank you all for your support over the years. I could have not gotten
this far without you all!!

Can't get HDMI output working properly in Linux Mint

2014-08-17 Thread Fred Fifield
Hi Everyone!

I have Mint 17 loaded on my HP Pavillion dv7 (1273d) and this is the first
time I've taken it out on the road. I'm in a hotel and want to watch a dvd
movie that will play on my laptop on the nice HDTV in my hotel. I hooked
the HDMI cable from my computer to the TV and switched the TV output to the
correct setting. The desktop background shows up on the TV but nothing else
does, no taskbar, no icons, no mouse pointer. Just the background. It seems
like this should be something easy but I can't figure out what it is.

I went into the display setting thinking my issue might be there. The TV
I'm plugged into shows up there but that's it. I've tried googling for an
answer but I don't seem to be able to phrase my request properly because I
keep getting responses for no sound.

Anyway, any help you give will be appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Installing VirtualBox on Mint 17 KDE failed

Thanks to everyone's feed back. I was able to get tie VirtualBox
installed.

For Virtualbox to work you have to have the kernel modules provided by
the package virtualbox-dkms for it to work. Why that's not a
dependency I can't tell you. I would also recommend that you install
virtualbox-qt and virtualbox-guest-additions-iso to get a complete
install of virtualbox.

I know that Ubunutu has turned on APT's system to automatically
install recommended packages. Mint must have turned that off. The
downside is obvious, you get broken or partially functional software,
the upside is that when you install stuff it can be smaller because it
doesn't drag in a whole bunch of other stuff automatically. I believe
that Ubuntu's setting has greatly helped promote the myth that KDE
programs are huge and bloated because when the Unity folks install a
KDE program is also brings in various other programs that aren't
essential to it's core functionality but then again, the programs
are feature rich when they do get on your system.
For Ubuntu people that don't want the bloat you can add the
--no-install-recommends to your apt-get command to tell it to just
install the program you are requesting and any of it listed
dependencies, but nothing else.

PLUG Video-Basic Modeling Tools in Blender

Phil goes over what blender is and some of it's basic modeling tools as
well as a quick intro to UV unwrapping.

Please feel free to give feedback. My goal is to make the best quality

I know this video has some issues with changing brightness levels due to
the way I setup the lights. (I was blinding Phil, so he kept walking out
of the lights causing the camera to try and adjust it's brightness levels.)

MEETING: Free Software Stammtisch on Tues (8/19)

2014-08-17 Thread PLUG Announcements
Did you just click on this message hoping that you could possibly get an
idea of what that funny Stammtisch word meant? Well...
Wikipedia describes a
Stammtisch as:
A*Stammtisch*(German: "regulars table") is an informal group meeting
held on a regular basis, and also the usually large, often round table
around which the group meets. A Stammtisch is not a structured meeting,
but rather a friendly get-together.

*We'll be meeting at Iguana Macks at 7pm on Tuesday for PLUG's Free
Software Stammtisch.*

Please come and join us for some good conversation over good food and
drinks, both of which are optional... Friends and family are all welcome.
Come see where the conversation leads this time, it doesn't just stick
exclusively with Free Software and Linux.  Us geeks are interested in
all sorts of things, so the conversation always leads to a good time.

The private room that we have has power and high speed WiFi Internet.
If you have any problems, feel free to bring in your machine and we'll
see what we can do to fix your problem... We even have facilities there
to do a formal presentation, so if you have a projector or can let us
know ahead of time to bring one and want to show everyone something
exciting, we can handle that as well.

Iguana Macks is located on the South East corner of Knox (half way
between Warner and Ray) and Alma School in Chandler. 1371 N Alma School
