*Advancing the federal cybersecurity workforce
*

*DATE:* September 10^th | *TIME: * 2pmET/11amPT | *DURATION:* 60 minutes

There's no shortage of reports — whether authored by federal oversight
bodies or leading think tanks — on the dearth of cybersecurity workers
in government. The National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education is
trying to change that.

NICE hopes to establish an operational, sustainable and continually
improving cybersecurity education program for the nation and to improve
the cyber workforce within the federal government. More than 20 federal
agencies participate in this National of Institute of Standards and
Technology-led effort.

*Reserve your spot today!
*

This /FierceGovernmentIT/ webinar will explore:

 * The National Cybersecurity Workforce Framework;
 * Innovative approaches to cybersecurity training and workforce
   improvement;
 * The broader focus of NICE in advancing cybersecurity awareness
   nationwide; and
 * Areas where more work is needed.

*SPEAKERS:*

*Ernest McDuffie, Ph.D. — Lead Agency for the National Initiative for
Cybersecurity Education (NICE), National Institute of Standards and
Technology (NIST)*

*Ben Scribner — Program Director for the Department of Homeland
Security, National Cybersecurity Professionalization and Workforce
Development program*

*Shane Robinson — Information Security Manager, Dell Services Federal
Government *

Well hidden! Not so sure about the rationale, as it seems couched in
some esoteric tongue.

Given the example of Tivo, THIS is how Myth schedules? They lost me.

Judge me by my size will you?

Thanks for the pointer. I am subscribing right now. I paid more than
that for the LxMsuite.com service 90 years (9 years) ago, but it was
eventually abused to death. Here's hoping the headaches of running
schedulesdirect.com are well compensated.

I'd get my knuckles rapped if I did anything like that, but I'll fight
for your right to ingest... even THAT.

It does not look like PLEX nor XBMC schedules and performs recordings.
Is there a plugin or sump'n? Can it handle an HDHomerun? Neither is
on schedulesdirect.com's list of approved apps, but maybe you were
just being random...

network info

2014-08-29 Thread Michael Havens
I am at linux from scratch section 7.2.2 . They want us to enter the
following lines:

cd /etc/sysconfig/
cat > ifconfig.eth0 << "EOF"ONBOOT=yes
IFACE=eth0
SERVICE=ipv4-static
IP=192.168.1.1
GATEWAY=192.168.1.2
PREFIX=24
BROADCAST=192.168.1.255
EOF

Now, I need to change the iP and gateway and broadcast numbers to something
that will be recognized on my network. I really am having difficulties with
'GATEWAY' because I think it is a network-wide number and I don't think
that it is 192.168.1.2 . How can I figure out what it is?

Re: network info

2014-08-29 Thread Michael Havens
I am creating the file /etc/resolv.conf . To get the proper setting I
looked into my running system's /etc/resolv.conf . pico says:

   nameserver 127.0.1.1
   search domain.actdsltmp

I do not think that number is even in my network and it isn't the loopback
address. The book says:

The IP address may also be a router on the local network.

which is 192.168.0.1 . So what would you advise I do; should I put in what
my host system says is the nameserver or my router/modem's ip address? I'm
thinking the modem/router's IP.

127.0.1.1 is probably dnsmasq. do an nmcli dev list iface to

You can put the router/modem IP or you can put google's dns as 8.8.8.8
and 8.8.4.4 , any should work.

Thanks

I have 2 Tivos, and I have dumped both of them in favor of my MythTV.
Of course I use dedicated machines running the graphical frontend so my

guessing that with your new purchase of schedules direct that you will
be able to just tell it to record shows by title and be done with it.
The really nice thing is that Myth remembers all the shows your have
ever watch and won't record them again unless told to do so. So unlike
tivo it won't re-record old shows over again after a few months when it

A few years ago if was possible to get the same service for free from
Zap2it by just answering a couple of survey questions a year... they
were really basic questions too like "How much do you like SciFi", but
like you said, people eventually abused it and started selling
pre-installed mythtv machines tied to free accounts. Thankfully the
Myth guys started schedulesdirect and sell access to it at cost.

Re: flat screens

2014-08-29 Thread Jon Kettenhofen
First, check the control panel or settings for the display or monitor
settings to make sure you have the best resolution for your monitors.

Otherwise, almost always, lack of resolution this has to do with the
video card or the motherboard embedded video chip AND the video card
driver including the video control software for the video card. If you
have a invidia or AMD card, you might be able to get the setup software
from the mfr site.

on the other hand, VGA, even SVGA I think, has limited resolution
compared to 1080P HD. It also depends on your monitor's capability.

2. If the monitor has a menu, check the menus - does the
monitor have more than one input, like both a VGA input and a
DVI input or even an HDMI input? One of my monitors has all
three and the monitor's menu will allow me to choose which one.
Normally it will default to whatever is plugged in but that may
not be the case for your flat screen.
3. Do you have a special driver installed for your CRT
monitor? If so, you may need to remove it. (but I realize
that's not likely!)
4. Are the flat screens you have used? Are you sure they are
in working order?
5. Have you tried leaving the monitor on and just shutting down
and rebooting the computer? (It's stupid, but sometimes that
works.)
