Re: xorg: Maximum number of clients reached

I think their consumer cards and quadros are limited to 2 displays. And the
nvs line is built for 4. Now depending on what your system has available
you could go with 3 cheaper desktop cards and run them that way. Makes me
wonder if Matrox is still around doing their thing or not.

Interesting note (imho), I went digging
around nvidia's site today, trying to familiarize myself with
their line of overpriced video cards aka quadro's.  What I found
was most of their website doesn't render or work properly, half
the links were broken, half their pdf's didn't download, and in
general looks like something a 10 year old put together (or me,
meh for aesthetics).  Wow, you'd think they could afford some
  competent web developers at least.

Sadly seems every card that can do "mosaic" mode, including sli to
achieve nvidia's qualifications to support sli were $500+ used on
ebay, needing multiple cards of them, in the kepler (K) line of
cards or better to achieve.  I guess it's one of those ymmv/"get
what you pay for" sort of things to support what I don't
necessarily expect should cost me $1000+ to support my 6 displays,
and really not sure even that is any better/worse than AMD's
  support until I see it.

Seeing as no one at AMD gives a real darn about real linux support
(hark! yet another COD windoze game came out with broken dx
rendering, support!), it might be worth the price, but the
childish/broken website from nvidia makes me loathe to want to
invest there either, figuring I'll see the same brokenness I see
  with amd.

I don't think they're interchangeable,
pretty diff case and everything if I remember right.

I know most of the 6xx latitudes were almost nefarious for dying
en masse generation after generation, I've seen/heard multiple
companies needing to constantly replace mobo's in them for
failures that it got at least one to switch laptop vendors because
  of it.

The joys of buying "economy" (ie. cheap) enterprise-class laptops,
which quickly trickle down to secondary/refurb resale to
unsuspecting consumers at what seems like a good price until it
  dies too.

I would do regular backups as well. Cheap Vhosts do a poor job of
backing things up and occasionally they biff someone's site.

 Keeping
track of the links was hell. Would a content management system help?

I'm thinking of using shared hosting. There won't be any commerce.

 What suggestions do you have?

 Trent.

A mouse trap, placed on top of your alarm clock, will prevent you from
rolling over and going back to sleep after you hit the snooze button.

Re: Firefox problems - solved (somewhat)

Thanks Matt. You had the right idea in your about:config comment,
although the setting name and value turned out to be a bit different.
I finally got what I needed from support.mozilla.org and the setting
name was layout.css.devPixelsPerPx and I had to bump it up to 1.3
to get a font size closer to what I see with the chromium browser.

Re: Fan-fic site

2015-06-13 Thread Stephen Partington
There is a great deal on wordpress both in print and online. But any basic
lamp set up would do, you can even get a free wp instance at
wordpress.com to evaluate.
OK. WordPress gets better reviews. I guess what I need to do before finding
a shared host that supports WordPress (which I suspect will be most of
them) is to set up my development site on my home computer.

So what is that?

* Fedora on virtual machine. (On the theory I'll be hosted on Red Hat --
I'll want a Red Hat derived distro.)
* Apache, or maybe Tomcat, serving local host
* WordPress (and pre-requisites)

A dead tree book on WordPress
Eclipse or whatever IDE you develop PHP in (maybe)

A web authoring program.

Feedback is much appreciated.
