flv to ogg

2022-04-06 Thread Michael via PLUG-discuss
After further investigation I found 720p_stereo.ogg

and 480p_stereo.ogg

work. So I need to convert it to one of those formats.

I assume you want me to convert it to 720.

flv to ogg

2022-04-21 Thread Michael via PLUG-discuss
Okay these are the questions I will have concerning converting my flv
to ogg while scaling the resolution.
Is it as simple as stating:
ffmpeg .flv -vf scale=-1:720 .ogg
?

I did. Those ones stuttered. The other ones had 2 hour downloads. The 1099

ok now try

ffmpeg -i input.mp4 -codec:v libtheora -qscale:v 3 -codec:a libvorbis
-qscale:a 3 -f ogv output.ogg

you might also want to try converting it to x264 just google convert
video to ffmpeg x264

thanks for the offer Alex. I'll just let it run on my weak computer.

Thank you so much, bob, for giving me the instructions for how to do this.
I'll let you know if I have problems. So, the input file is a flv and the
output is an ogg. So it automatically knowa what file formats yo read/save
too ?

I was wondering I was looking at the output and at the beginning it
says:

   WARNING: library configuration mismatch

do I need to worry about anything?? It is only a warning so probably not.
how do I fix it if so? (after researching an answer to that I see it is a
bug that doesn't matter)

Re: flv to ogg

2022-04-07 Thread Brian Cluff via PLUG-discuss
MP4, AVI, MOV, FLV...etc...etc are container formats.  Think of them as
specialty file systems that hold the various "files" that make up of the
video.  Those parts can include the video, the audio, subtitles,
thumbnail images, meta data... etc...etc.. and often time multiple
versions of any combination of those.

The various containers can usually hold a number of different types of
video formats inside them such as h.264, h.264/HEVC, MPEG4, Theora, VP8,
VP9, AV1.  Then there are different audio formats and they can usually
use just about anything you can think of as an audio codec, such as MP2,
WAV but often times they use formats that you don't usually see outside
of a video pairing like AC3, AAC, but there's no reason you couldn't
just have an stand alone audio file in any format that can be encoded
into a video.

So just looking at the suffix of the video file won't tell you anything
about if your computer can play it back or not.  What you really need to
know is the CODECS that make up various parts of the video are and the
resolution that the video is stored at.   Your computer will have an
easier time of with some video formats than others.  You'll find that
your computer will usually have an easier time with older video formats
that are much larger because the hardware decompressing support for that
format is baked into the GPU or the CPU, so you'll find that putting a
newer generation video card into even an old computer can make it
instantly be able to play back the most modern 4K video simply because
all the decompressing is happening on the GPU and the CPU has little to
do with it.

If you have VLC, you can go to "Tools -> Codec Information" and "Tools
-> Media Information" and it will give you a rough breakdown of what
makes up your particular video.
Another really nice tool is mediainfo ( apt install mediainfo ). Just
run that with your video file name as the argument and it will spit out
info about all the various parts that make up your video (or audio) file.

Brian Cluff
PS
My personal favorite container format is MKV since it seems to be able
to hold just about anything you throw at it without limitation.

I like to use the mp4 format because it is supported by HTML5 and I can
embed it in a web page for streaming. mkv isn't as easy.

2022-04-08 Thread Bob Elzer via PLUG-discuss
OK, I see a few issues here, first tell us again what problems you are
having trying to watch this video ?
To start with, while the viewing length is an hour and 23 minutes, the size
is only 171mb. When I record a tv show, a 1 hour show is 6GB, depending on
what channel I'm recording. The reason your video is so small is because it
is mostly static pictures there is not a lot of movement. So because of
that the recorder doesn't have a lot of work to do. When I converted it to
x264 the size when up from 171mb to 192mb and took me 3 and a half minutes
When I pay your video I don't have any problems, but the sound is terrible
from the teacher, probably his mic, and near the end I hear a clicking
noise in a few places, but the video and audio does not stutter.

Re: flv to ogg

2022-04-08 Thread Bob Elzer via PLUG-discuss
I don't think there is any point in converting this file, it is already as
small as it is going to get. If you look at the file information it is
already encoded as x264 video and aac audio. What problems do you have
playing this video ?

having trying to watch this video ?
To start with, while the viewing length is an hour and 23 minutes, the
size is only 171mb. When I record a tv show, a 1 hour show is 6GB,
depending on what channel I'm recording. The reason your video is so small
is because it is mostly static pictures there is not a lot of movement. So
because of that the recorder doesn't have a lot of work to do. When I
converted it to x264 the size when up from 171mb to 192mb and took me 3 and
 a half minutes
When I pay your video I don't have any problems, but the sound is
terrible from the teacher, probably his mic, and near the end I hear a
clicking noise in a few places, but the video and audio does not stutter.

Re: flv to ogg

2022-04-21 Thread Michael via PLUG-discuss
well, the mp4 translation at 720p with handbrake didn't work so I guess
I'll try to translate with ffmpeg.
Is it as simple as stating:
ffmpeg .flv -vf scale=-1:720 .ogg
?
Sorry, I forgot to look ay the output before I closed handbrake.

Re: flv to ogg

2022-04-21 Thread Bob Elzer via PLUG-discuss
OK, the file you are trying to convert is already as small as it is going
to get. This from fileinfo.com: Before 2007, OGG files were used to
store various types of media, but since then the Xiph.Org Foundation
recommends that OGG files store only audio data. Now, you will most likely
encounter only OGG files that store audio data compressed with Vorbis
compression.

Since the file is already compressed the reason for your stuttering is that
the player is trying to uncompress while playing and appears not to be
powerful enough to do it smoothly. I think what you should be doing is
uncompressing the file into its full uncompressed file size, then the video
player doesn't have to do the work any more. The actual uncompress work
would be done by ffmpeg which will probably take a long time. Changing the
scale might help, but trying to reconvert it to another format is just
going to make it bigger every time and probably still stutter.

Since I've never tried to uncompress a video file, I don't know what the
settings would be. You have to do some googling to find that ffmpeg
uncompress video

Re: flv to ogg

2022-04-21 Thread Michael via PLUG-discuss
ffmpeg -i input.mp4 -vcodec rawvideo -pix_fmt bgr24 output.avi

should be the one. but would

ffmpeg -i input.flv -vcodec rawvideo -pix_fmt bgr24 output.mp4

give me a conversion from flv (the original format) to mp4 with just a
stream of pictures like we want?

Re: flv to ogg

2022-04-21 Thread Snyder, Alexander J via PLUG-discuss
No. The "mp" in "mp4" stands for Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG), which
implies MPEG compression (*MPEG-4 Part 14*, specifically).

Compression here is the opposite of what you're trying to achieve.

Thanks,
Alexander

Re: flv to ogg

2022-04-22 Thread Michael via PLUG-discuss
I get it, the .flv file is already small so don't convert it to mp4. What
do you recommend? I already tried to not convert it but the terminal
complained about the raw video option not being able to play with that file
format. Hm. I suppose mov would work. No?
