Logwatch Filtering for Apache

2011-02-09 Thread Tim Noeding
Good afternoon PLUG,

Let me begin by defining the problem:

I have servers that I monitor and was hoping to cut the apache sections of
the logwatch down a bit. These servers have had website changes which leave
links that people have made to images come up as failed access attempts in
logwatch. Most of these are a known issue. I do not want to add these to the
regex ignore file for logwatch, as they may become a real issue in the
future. The one consistent bit of information that defines the true problems
from the false positives is the number of times the problem happens.
Generally, if the failure happens more than 100 times, I want to know about
it. The rest I don't want in the e-mail.

I have attempted to manipulate the apache configs in logwatch but have
failed to accomplish my goal. This may be due to my lack of perl scripting
skills.

Has anyone else attempted something similar?

Is there a way to manipulate a cache file output before its added to the
e-mail?

I was hoping to do this somewhere inside logwatch, rather than changing the
cron to manipulate it before sending the e-mail.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Configuring repositories for Yum on RHEL 6

2010-12-16 Thread Tim Noeding
Hey Keith,

Try the following command:

# rhn_register

That will bring up a registration menu which requires your login and
password to RHN.

Good luck!

Either can do remote archive retrievals -- but Red Hat does not release
the post-Beta binaries of its enterprise product to the general internet,
choosing to provide access only through their RHN (Red Hat Network) which
uses strong authentication methods keyed to each individually licensed
install

CentOS 6 will be along, soon enough ; Scientific Linux has a candidate out

You need to cd into konversation-1.3.1 first, then configure.

# cd konversation-1.3.1
# ./configure

The config file is located in the new directory that contains the program
you just untared.

 tar jxfv konversation-1.3.1.tar.bz2
this should actually be a : tar -jxfv konversation-1.3.1.tar.bz2

 ls
 cd konversation-1.3.1
 ./configure
 make
 make install

This part is pretty much normal and i think will work better with the
 switches working correctly.

The Mexican–American War was an armed conflict between the United

annexation of Texas, which Mexico considered part of its territory
despite the 1836 Texas Revolution.

In addition to a naval blockade of the Mexican coast, American forces
invaded and conquered New Mexico, California and parts of northern
Mexico. Another American army captured Mexico City, forcing Mexico to
agree to the sale of its northern territories to the U.S.

I could be flat wrong but 30k is close to 32k, which is one of those
magical numbers. It could be incrementing a counter that is evaluated
as a 16 bit signed integer (which overflows at 32767 + 1). Depending
on the rest of the code, it could be as simple as changing it to a
 long integer.

Re: iButton anyone?

2009-04-14 Thread Tim Noeding
Hey all,

Sorry about being so vague the first time around, I was just wondering
if there was anyone with experience with the iButton. I have been
tasked with doing some repairs on equipment that use these as a method
for logging usage. After 30k uses, it prevents the machine from
working anymore. My boss tasked me with finding out how to get around
this little problem, so I've been swimming in iButton information for
the last week or so.
So far I know which model, and I am waiting for the writer to come in
the mail. I'm also looking for a decent scanner that will read the
chips, and haven't made my final decision on which one to purchase
yet.
I was hoping that there was someone that has some experience with this
and might be able to help solve my problem. If not, and this sounds
interesting to you, I'd be glad to bring it to a meeting and see what
we can do with them.

Thanks

Alan was correct in saying that more information would be needed.

The manufacturer says that the iButton is a peripatetic extension of
the computer, a statement that says everything and nothing at the same
 time.

As a security device it is a key with a unique electronic number in it
that would serve to tell the system that that key, and only that key was
present in the system and was therefore authorized to do whatever teh
 system was programmed to do.

On the other hand, depending on how it was programmed, it could be doing
nearly anything else the designer built into it.

Personally, I vote for its unlocking the front door, turning on the
coffee pot and starting World Wat III all at the same time, all of which
seem to be within its capability.

I am currently repairing a machine that uses these as a security
feature. It's the first time I've seen one, but I figure one of you
may have some experience with these. If so, let me know if you have
found a good way of dealing with them.

 Thanks

We as a group are VERY vocal minority. Most people would not even know
or even be effected by Shaping or Rate limiting. I am glad though that
the group exists, we are like a consumer advocate for all the people
that do not know any better.
