OT: Any gamers?

2008-09-03 Thread Jason Hiller
I have a PS3. I use quite a bit of storage for free demos and videos downloaded
from the Playstation Network. I also copied my entire music library to my PS3,
as it is a decent media player, and provides another backup.

The PS3 has started to come on strong. There are some great games coming, and
the Playstation network is much better than it used to be. I think it will
really give the 360 a run for it's money, as developers master the Cell
processor and leverage the higher capacity of Blu Ray.

BTW- Blu Ray is a huge bonus. I am bummed when I can't rent a movie in Blu
Ray...and have to resort to old school dvd.

Personally, I prefer the PS3 to the XBOX..

Space isnt really an issue since you can always add a FAT formatted hard
drive via USB that works for saving all your media to. Also, with the PS3,
you can use any standard 2.5" laptop hard drive *without* voiding the
warranty, Just dont format/use your replaced PS3 hard drive for anything
else (store it, dont use it). I'm not sure about the largest amount of
storage, but via USB, it would depend on how much space the FAT format will
allow you. I had a 320GB ext hdd hooked up to mine before I sold it and
never ran out of space.. It also made it easy for creating system backups...

On the Xbox, I'm not sure about USB storage for media and such, I haven't
owned on.
@Farli, With the PS3, copying part of the game to the HDD makes it load
quite a bit faster. It also allows them to release patches for what gets
installed on the hard drive, thereby allowing for more content or fixes to
bugs that are causing issues. At least that's what I think it's doing :)

The XBox doesn't require a game be copied to the hard drive. Only
downloads you purchase would require a hard drive. I am just as happy
with my XBox 360 arcade (which means no hard drive). I am thinking
about getting the hard drive, so that I can play older XBox (non 360)
games on it. I am not a big content downloader, except for the WII,
and that is only because I love a lot of the old NES and SNES games.

I am not interested in downloading stuff with a game console! I had no
idea that the XBox and the PS3 expect you to copy games to the hd! What
a waste!

HD movie downloads from the XBox live marketplace can take up a fair chunk of
space. FYI though, they are covered in DRM and FAIL... Just like Blu-Ray...

I have a Wii and I am thinking about getting another console. Im
leaning to a PS3 because of its blue ray player.

My question is why would anyone need 60G (the Xbox 360) or 80G of storage?
