RE: Open Source CRM

2009-02-26 Thread Bob Elzer
Vtiger, started out as a version of SugarCRM, but soon changed so much, I
don't think it's considered that anymore.

They have added a lot of features, the major version changes redid the Look
and Feel each time (some good and some not so good). I don't think they
fixed all the bugs in the previous versions. But version 5 has been around a
while, so maybe they finished the major changes and are now settled into a
maintenance phase.

With sugar, if you want more robust features, you have to pay. I haven't
kept up with them.

RE: Open Source CRM

2009-02-25 Thread Bryan O'Neal
It's for my father, he and a few other engineers are starting a business.
So, basic CRM with document management and a decent dashboard are more then
he needs. Rite now he is not using any project management software since
the typical scenario has them interfacing with whatever the client (or the
clients architect) are using.

Yes vTiger is really nice; I think it might be the nicest in it's
simplicity.

Also, you might try Jira and Confluence if you need code tools and project
management:

Here's my CMS live demo list; I have installed or customized these and
others (tracd/Mambo). This is a good list for customers who don't know
what they want and suggest you build a lot of "demos".
Be sure you realize that this is not the most current version. Be sure you
check out the security issues for each of these (for instance WordPress and
MediaWiki have known issues). Be sure to patch your systems regularly and
follow all instructions to secure your PHP/Mysql.

warn you, Wordpress is the slowest blog also because of it's size. Wordpress
needs MySQL support.
If you can't use MySQL for WordPress, then I suggest you go for: FlatPress or
