There are lots of alternative PDF viewers for just about any platform here: http://pdfreaders.org/ Ubuntu 9.10 has a PDF reader already installed in the base default install, so you already have what you need, unless you removed it. If you just want to view or print a pdf the standard evince reader installed on Ubuntu will work just fine. You really only need acrobat if you want to fill in pdf forms. All you need to install is the adobereader package, the rest (adobereader-ja adobereader-deu adobereader-fr) are for other languages and apparently conflict with each other.
