yuo should look at it again. The connector is now included and doesn't cost
a dime. I would agree with the calendar last year, but since I have been
Fedora 7 (and 8) I have had full calendar support. the only thing that I am
kind of missing is when then send out the voting emails and controlling
filters at the exchange level vs on the client side. Other than that I have
not had any problems.

2008-02-21 Thread Dan Lund
I've used the Ximian Connector with Evolution when I was at the job
before last, since I didn't feel like using VMWare or any other
Windows runner for Outlook usage. It uses http processes, and to be
honest back when I used it the abilities were borderline for my use.
For anyone who uses Exchange for anything truly Exchange related,
Ximian Connector really doesn't work too well. I'm not being
M$-biased here since that's completely opposite of how I am.

I just wish there was something that wasn't $100+ that would talk MAPI
to Exchange and interact with a majority of Exchange's features, not
just email and a very weak interface to the calendaring.
I usually fell back on hooking up with POP3 for email on , and used the Outlook web access for
all of the other Exchange-specific features like calendaring, and
such.

This really needs a caveat. Evolution works with Exchange *if* you're using
an old version of Exchange. Evolution goes through Exchange's web interface,
which mutates every release, so if you have an Exchange server newer than
2003 (maybe 2005?) then Evolution will fail miserably. At least that's what
I found back in October. Maybe things have improved by now.

I have not tried Sunbird yet, but I know that evolution works with Exchange
well. I know that if you have a serial palm or have been able to get you USB

able to make it work consistently after a couple months of playing around

2008-02-20 Thread Erich Newell
Does anyone have a side by side feature by feature comparison between
Sunbird/T-Bird vs Evolution??? I'm not only interested in basic feature
list, but "functionality"...does one work better than the other at such-and
such, etc.

I've googled my brains out and cannot find any good info.

I used to be tethered to Outlook running in VMWare to an Exchange
server...but now that I'm working for myself I really want to tighten up
this end of my internal organization scheme and could use some advice.

Ideally, I would like to synchronize my palm pilot with an Exchange account
(calendar and email) as well as a Gmail account or two. MOST IMPORTANTLY,
I'm looking for a mechanism to make a "public" calendar that aggregates
multiple Google calendars and an Exchange calendar and would simply show
occupied/free time slots.

I wish this meant that soon we could have "native" support in Sunbird
and other opensource calendar progs that would allow to sync with
Exchange. Maybe I don't make full use of Samba now, but the current
version seems to be doing everything I need. What I would kill for is
the ability to kick Outlook to the curb forever, without having to
resort to the current various kludge methods of syncing exchange with
Sunbird and vice-versa.

Samba team got protocol docs

2008-02-20 Thread der.hans
moin moin,

I don't remember seeing this posted here.

http://samba.org/samba/PFIF/

It doesn't meet Darrin's requirements since they have to sign an NDA.

It does require m$ to document patent claims for the protocols.

Hopefully this documentation is hastening the release of Samba 4.0.

ciao,

der.hans
