Matrix was built as a federated service, which means anyone can host their own server and yet stay connected to the whole world. The default server provided by https://riot.im is the matrix.org server. If everyone starts registering on the same server, there's no point to the federation. I'd suggest people to use an alternative server to register a Matrix account. There are tons of other servers available.
