Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC Live Streaming Stops
Identify your problem first - the following problems are unrelated 1. Live BBC streams doesn't play or stops after a short time - you need 1.0pre8 or later. The bandwidth fix is nothing to do with this. 2. Listen Again streams only which usually stop sometime between 2 and 4 mins. This is caused by bandwidth and 99.999% of the time only in Windows - I have only see one case of a Linux (FC5) with this problem. If you have the stoppping problem with live streams you need 1.0pre8 or later - there is no other solution. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=29511 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins

[SlimDevices: Plugins] MusicIP SS - start order
Several threads indicate that, under WinXP, the MIP API has to be running when SS starts for SS to mark tracks as mixable correctly. This was a problem for me when I had the SS service set to automatic start up - it was always running before MIP started, and never linked to MIP properly. I resorted to starting SS manually after I'd fired MIP up. Others may have found clever ways round this, but I've just discovered an utterly obvious way of getting this to work (I think!!). I've put a link to MIP in the Windows Startup folder (in Start / All Programs); and I've set SS to 'Automatically run at log in' (settable from the tray icon when SS is stopped). This seems mysteriously to fire everything up automatically in the right sequence when I start the PC. (In contrast, setting SS to 'run at startup' with the login details provided to the SS Service in the service properties does *not* work. It's almost as if you have to trick the system into allowing enough time for MIP to start first - but that may just be silly superstition, rather than sound computer science!) As I say, this may be standard practice that I've just not picked up. Any thoughts about why it works (at least at the moment!!!)? -- Diana -- Diana Diana's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7463 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32655 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins

As a experiment to see if this is what people want/expect, I have modified two AlienBBC files to get more information on the program entries from the BBC website and include them on the Slimserver web page and SB display. Replacing The AlienBBCAodMenu file results on a little more information in the program listing so instead of Afternoon Reading you now get Afternoon Reading - either a short story or an abridged book. Replacing The AlienPlayableAodItem file results in more details on a program once it has been selected to play or added to a playlist. General install instruction for the attached zip files 1. Stop slimserver and save the relevant file in case you want to revert 2. Down load and unzip the file into a temporary area. 3. Replace the relevant file in Plugins/Alien 4. Restart Slimserver This is not production code, I have only done basic tests so feedback would be useful to know whether to put more effort to include in the AlienBBC Plugin. [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Server Power Control Plugin, for 6.5.1 on Win32
My Slimdevices Slimserver runs on a old power hungry Pentium III 800 MHz which I prefer not to left running when Im not using it. Shutting the thing down was either a trip into the garage, or a terminal server remote login via another networked computer (hopefully still running) to log it off! I have thus written a plugin to avoid this messing about. I know there are similar plugins about based on running batch files, or automated from inactivity timeouts - but I wanted something a little bit more direct :-) The Slimserver 6.5.1 code is for Windows machines and force closes other applications except Slimserver which is (hopefully) shutdown correctly. The Linux / Mac talented among you may suggest changes for those platforms. Once installed, you will find a Server Power Control entry in the Squeezebox units displayed plugins list. Clicking right, you have the choice of shutting down or restarting the server. Clicking right from here will do the selected action in 3 seconds (which also blanks the display) unless you navigate back. If a track is playing, it will remain playing from the players buffer - no big issue. The file PowerCtrl.pm should be placed in Slimservers plugin directory, and Slimserver restarted. In SlimServer-Server Settings-File Types-File Format Conversion Setup, do you have the box checked for Windows Media - Windows Media (built in) ? XM Radio Online is a Windows Media (.wma) stream. You can play it using the built-in wma decoder on the SB, which will be done if you have the above box checked. If you don't have the above box checked, then you will need mplayer to decode the wma stream on the host. I ran into the garbled display problem today. I believe it was due to network problems. I was listening to an HTTP stream just fine in the kitchen when my wife started using the microwave, knocking out my WiFi connection. Lo and behold, I saw a scrambled display -- a mix of Analogue VU and Now Playing. When the microwave finished, the SB rebuffered the stream and things normalized. When Stopped -- I believe 1.7 may resolve that problem (1.7 recognizes when the music has stopped playing) -- but are you using None for the When Stopped screensaver? The None screensaver is a tricky thing. It's not really a screensaver, but a special case that means no screensaver makes any update to the client display. With 1.6, SaverSwitcher wouldn't notice when the music stopped, and would keep switching screensavers on the quiet client if the client's When Stopped screensaver is None. 1.7 is a little bit better, but if When Stopped is set to None, you'll see the last When Playing saver after the music stops. I don't know how easy it would be to make the client switch to displaying the screen that was up before When Playing kicked in, I haven't had time to investigate that. -- peterw peterw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2107 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32230 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins

OK. I just loaded Slim 6.5.1 (which includes Perl 5.8.8) and downloaded the plugin from the website and things are working fine. The only time I've seen the error you mention is when there's some syntax error in the plugin that is not more gracefully detected. So, right now my only guess is that there was a glitch when downloading/extracting the plugin that messed up something. If any of the older plugins worked, then try redownloading the latest version again and see if that works. Let me know what comes of this. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Astronomy Information Plugin - useful to amateur astronomers
Thanks for the quick response Mitch. Problem solved. The directory is suposed to be named 'AstroInfo'. I created a directory called 'Astroinfo' (case sensitive according to the comments in the code). Might help to zip it up including the 'AstroInfo' folder. Thanks again Matt -- mash mash's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=354 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=21022 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins

I'm embarrassed to admit that I can't figure out how to do that - zip it with the folder name. Whenever I do try to include the path, it zips up the entire chain of directories from C:\Program Files ... on down.
