[SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: BottleRocket -- use Jive to control X-10 and Insteon devices

2007-12-28 Thread peterw

I've just posted a new SqueezeCenter 7 version of BottleRocket that
has rudimentary Jive support: it will list the "other" devices and
allow you to turn them on or off (using menu choices or pressing "+"
for off or Play for on while on a device line or looking at a screen
listing options for a particular device), and brighten or dim (using
menu options only).
http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/slim7/BottleRocket/

I hope to add All Lights and All Devices options, icons, a nicer web
configuration interface, and support for scenes... but I'm not sure how
soon. :-)

Screenshots:

"Insteon, X-10 Devices" -- the main menu (under home -> Extras)
"Kitchen lamp" -- sample menu for an X-10 device
"Bedroom lights" -- sample meny for an Insteon devices (can set exact
brightness level)

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC not playing

Thanks for the responses.

bpa: I do know others have AlienBBC streaming BBC radio to media
players by transcoding it to an mp3 stream. It just doesn't want to
work for me.

Siduhe: I'm running the server on a "vanilla" XP installation on my
private LAN, so no firewall & low security setting for local intranet.

All suggestions gratefully received!

I don't have Mac but I believe you can try the following.

1. Open a Terminal window
2. type the following command
/usr/local/bin/mplayer

You should see an mplayer banner etc.

If that works - check mplayer.sh that it is executable and has the
right owner.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC and GCap radio streams

2007-12-28 Thread bpa

My query about the Filetypes relates to the WAV and FLAC entries only
(not APE, ALAC, AAC, OGG etc) - some people when faced with decoding
problems disable some of these entries and it can cause strange
prolems.

The long delay can be reduced by reducing the cache parameter on the
mplayer line but this means should data error occur, there is a greater
chance of station feed stopping.

A while ago (with 6.5) I had some problems with Softsqueeze and found
only some transcode formats works - so try disabling Windows Media
->Flac and Windows Media ->WAV in turn so that WAV and MP3 is sent to
Softsqueeze and see if this works.

IIRC In SC7 - Softsqueeze has been given its own device type so perhaps
there is some issue there.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC and GCap radio streams

2007-12-28 Thread liam . whiteside

I've just tried SqueezeSlave 0.7 and that seems to be able to play the
WMA streams! Although it does keep saying 'decoding error'

There's also a very long delay before audio starts (mplayer buffer? is
it possible to reduce this?)

So it looks like this problem may be a bug in SoftSqueeze.

Does anyone know the status of SoftSqueeze and SqueezeSlave? Are either
in active development. The SoftSqueeze web site still refers to version
2, where as the latest binary on sourceforge is 3.5 - however there
doesn't seem to be any real talk about it and there doesn't seem to be
any discussion of SqueezeSlave since early 2006.

Ahh, think i've sorted this.. There's a new build 0.62a up now..

Previously Moose would unbind mysql by setting the bind address to ''
This worked fine on windows, so i assumed it would be ok on all the
other flavours, but apparently not..

Seems the official way to unbind a mysql install is to set it to 0.0.0.0,
so this is what 0.62a now does..

Hopefully this should sort this issue, although i cant test with ubuntu, etc..

Can you go to Server Setting/Advanced/File Types and try to enable all

With the player.source log set to Info, try to play a WMA stream and

Those messages are for SN and SC preference synching not sychronising

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] MusicIP - How to add new albums

2007-12-28 Thread BigAl

Assuming you've ripped the new disc to the same directory that is
defined for both SS and Music IP. (Server settings/music folder from
the SS's web interface and options/watch folders in Music IP.) If so
then you should be able to do a rescan from slim server with the "look
for new and changed music" option to make it available to SS. (I
believe an alternative is to use the browse music folders option from
the remote or web UI to the folder for the new disc. This will cause
SS to add the new disc to its database.) Then open Music IP. It will
scan the directories you've defined and find any new or changed music.
(You'll need the "scan at startup" box under options/watch folders
checked for this to happen automatically.) If you don't want this scan
to happen every time you can leave the box unchecked, but go to the
options/watch folders screen and click "scan now" when you want to add
new music.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Just re-read my first post and I realise I wasn't very clear -
apologies.

I've installed AlienBBC on my PC which is also runnning SlimServer and
I can access all the BBC stations as normal through my SB, which is a
great step forward. The problem is that the football commentary locks
out the non-UK IP addresses. I can make it look like I'm in the UK via
the browser (using HideMyIP), but not for SlimServer via the AlienBBC
plug in.

Anyone solved this?

Yes. Port is open. Scan is done correctly.
Covers which are stored on slimserver are shown correctly.

But I have not got very much covers is my tree. And I hoped that
moose could help me getting all the missing covers.
This hope was (is) feeded by the fact that moose shows missing
covers of songs being played.

Is there another good way of getting all missing covers?

I tried com.pfarrell.utils.music.MusicUtil - it doesn't like
ID3 v2.4 tags ("ignored ... PIB, implement V2r4 headers...").

I tried http://www.victorland.com/slimp3/ - it doesn't work at all

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: New WeatherTime Screensaver adds graphical forecasts

2007-12-28 Thread michael . tanner

Yes, ZIP is extracted, but I'm not sure if the location is correct for
CentOS (which is like RedHat). There are no other Plugins located in my
path, only a "bin" subfolder. I haven't found any other location yet.
SqueezeCenter files are spreaded everywhere...
Any suggestions?

[SlimDevices: Plugins] MusicIP - How to add new albums

2007-12-28 Thread Rick B .

Thanks to the many threads here I have managed to get MusicIP working on
my Windows XP machine. I'm using the GUI, not the "headless" one.

My only real problem is after I have ripped a new CD using EAC. I wind
up having to go through many hoops trying to get the new CD visible in
Slimserver. I wind up doing very lengthy full re-scans and other things
several time over.

Can anyone lay out a simple step-by-step on what to do after rippling a
new CD? Thanks very much.

I've attached the file.

1. Goto the Server Setting/Debugging page.
2. Check the d_source box and click change
3.Open the log window by clicking on the hypetext link on the word

4. Try playing a WMA station
5. do a refresh on the Log window and then copy log to a post - attach

Did you grab the Plugins-WeatherTime-Plugin r61.zip from
http://weathertime.googlecode.com and extract it into your plugin
directory? I don't know about the right path for your installation. On
Debian (what I am using) it's /usr/share/perl5/Slim/Plugin.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] SoftSqueeze audio problems (Java mp3 plugin)

2007-12-28 Thread liam . whiteside

Hi,

I've been having some problems with audio playing at about half speed
or not at all on SoftSqueeze. I've now switched back to using the
JLayer mp3 decoder rather than the Java mp3 plugin and it seems to have
resolved the problems.

This is with Softsqueeze 3.5 running on WinXP sp2 with Java 1.6.03

When the audio was playing at half speed, if I clicked in the progress
bar in SqueezeCenter so that it jumped a few seconds into the track
then it played at the correct speed. However every time these specific
tracks played from the start, they played all the way through at half
speed.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: New WeatherTime Screensaver adds graphical forecasts

2007-12-28 Thread michael . tanner

Hi all,
I'm trying to install WeatherTime with SqueezeCenter, but I can't get
it running. I'm not very experienced with SqueezeCenter, I changed from
6.5 to 7 today (nightly build).

- SqueezeCenter is running correctly, CentOS5 on XenSource VM
- all WeatherTime files present @
/var/lib/squeezecenter/Plugins/WeatherTime
- when I go to "Extras" I can see "Weather, Date and Time"
"PLUGIN_SCREENSAVER_WEATHERTIME_DESC" text and a DISABLE button.
- in "Advanced" nothing shows up

Is the file location correct?
What could be the problem?

Thanks for any suggestions.
Regards,
Mike

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC and GCap radio streams

2007-12-28 Thread bpa

Does any WMA stream work ?

If no WMA stream works then it maybe a conf file or mplayer problem. So
test mplayer to be sure.

test the URL on a command line with mplayer such as
mplayer -v http://mediasrv.musicradio.com/CapitalRadio

This will give debug output and play to PC audio hardware.

If the PC does not have audio hardware - redirect output to /dev/null.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC and GCap radio streams

2007-12-28 Thread liam . whiteside

I had originally never intended to buy a Squeezebox. I think for what
they are, they are over priced and currently I'm not willing to pay
that premium. (just think you can buy a full PC for that price now - or
even a network player that's also capable of video)

I had looked at the Pinnacle Soundbridge, which to me seems a very
sensible price for a consumer product. However unfortunately it seems
that has been crippled in terms of it's support for SlimServer.

I'd been playing with UPnP on FreeNAS and was very disappointed with
the facilities in the software players available. So when I came
across SlimNAS and SoftSqueeze it seemed like quite a good solution.

Back to the issue with the WMA streams...

So yes it sounds like I do need AlienBBC to transcode the WMA streams
so SoftSqueeze can play them. I know I could just use Windows Media
Player on the client PC, but now I've played with SqueezeCenter, I like
the idea of everything in one place and the ability to synchronise
players.

Yes Michael, I've followed the instructions on your web page to alter
the custom-convert.conf file and can listen to all the BBC ra streams
fine. I'm wondering if the mplayer you've used can cope with these wma
streams, especially as pba has said they work on his setup (which I'm
assuming is a full OS rather than SlimNAS) - but currently I haven't
found a way to debug what AlienBBC / mplayer is doing so I can see any
error messages.

I've increased the network timeout to 20s and after pressing play, I
just see the counter count up, but don't hear any audio. Every now and
again the counter resets (sometimes at 30s, 6s there doesn't seem to be
a pattern at the moment).

I had the same thing happening to me on Ubuntu 7.0 server.

What I did:
- edit /etc/slimserver/server.prefs
- give bindAddress the default value 127.0.0.1 as in:bindAddress:
127.0.0.1
- Moose had changed this line to: bindAddress: "''"

After restarting Slimserver everything was back to normal.
No more Moose for me :)
