I just uploaded SlimNAS version 0.92 which should fix various issues which
arose with the renaming of the SqueezeCenter package. This should work with the
latest FreeNAS 0.686 squeezecenter-noCPAN.tgz.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Dynamic Playlists: random playlists

2008-01-07 Thread RoyE

I have been playing around with Dynamic Playlists for a while now.
However, I notice that after a few seconds in every song, the music
briefly holds for 1-2 seconds: it seems the system is then busy
searching for the next song to be added to the last position of the
playlist (i.e. nr. 11, 12, 13 and so on, assuming that you start with
10 songs in the playlist).

I have checked my network test: 100%. I am running SS 6.5.4 on a
FreeNas-system with 1 GB internal memory.

The only thing I can think of is the amount of tags I have for every
track: I recently added Performers, Perfomersort, Trackartist and some
more. Could this influence the speed of the system?

Are you using these tags with the Custom Scan plugin ?

Are any of these custom tags part of the dynamic playlist you use ?

Do you still have this problem if you start a simple random playlist
for example by selecting:
Dynamic Playlists/Random/Random songs

How large is your SlimServer library ? (Number of songs)

Hi Michael,

First of all, thanks for your work with SlimNAS!

I just installed my first FreeNAS and tried to add SlimNAS.
Unfortunately it does not work for me.

I'm running exactly that combination as well 0.686 with SlimNAS.

I had renamed the SqueezeCenter.tgz file myself to get the latest
nightly builds to install - but having just downloaded and installed
slimnas-0.92.tgz (renaming it to slimnas.tgz to make sure the
slimnas-install.sh install script sees it) it's worked perfectly with
last nights SC7 without having to rename that.

Anyone who would like to program an advanced crossfade plugin containing
the features as mentioned above? I know it should be possible to create.
Many music programs like winamp, i-tunes, silverjuke etc. can crossfade
by pressing the ff-next button. It is especially a good thing if you
are having a party, and don't want to listen a song to the end, and
want to skip to next song discretely by crossfading to next. I really
hope someone fancy the job, because i am not a linux expert at all..:)

[SlimDevices: Plugins] iTunes ratings and iTunesUpdate

2008-01-07 Thread jordimr

Hi there - I have just bought a Squeezebox, and I am having a lot of fun
setting everything up. Most things are working fine, but I am struggling
to get ratings integration with iTunes working.

This is my setup:
-I am running Squeezecenter on a Windows Home Server
-All my music files are stored and backed up on the Home Server
-All my music is managed by iTunes; I have all the management options
enabled (keep music organized, etc)
-I run iTunes in a Laptop, which has its library location pointing at a
shared folder from the home server.
-My home server doesn't have iTunes installed on it.
-In order to enable iTunes integration with Squeezecenter, I had to use
foldershare (similar to synctoy), to automatically replicate the itunes
library xml between my laptop and a folder on the server.

I have installed iTunes update, and it shows fine on the settings
panel. However I don't seem to be able to make it update the xml file.

Initially, when I pressed and held a number (0 to 5), I got the message
Favourite #n not defined. Now for some reason I don't get any
messages.

I have read that the iTunes host must be on the same computer as the
squeezecentre server; but I thought I could get away by simply having
the xml file available.

If anyone could give any pointers, that would be much appreciated.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: SyncOptions -- two new synchronization options

2008-01-07 Thread peterw

Two pieces of good news.

First, I just released version 1.2. The info page now has a screenshot
of the player interface when you try a mid-track sync with SyncOptions
set to wait for next track. When this displays, you have four
options:
1) do nothing. SyncOptions will sync the player when the next track
starts
2) left arrow out of the screen to cancel the sync operation
3) press Play to sync and restart the current track (like the normal
SS/SC behavior)
4) [new! improved!] press the right arrow and SyncOptions will sync up
at the current moment in the song. This is a little crude, and does
require the music to stop for a brief moment, but at least for MP3
(and, I'd think, other native formats), it seems to work OK.

Second, Andy has committed patches to SqueezeCenter 7 that will allow
me to make SyncOptions for SC7 *not* require users to patch their
SqueezeCenter code. Thank you, Andy!

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iTunes ratings and iTunesUpdate

2008-01-07 Thread erland

iTunes Update can be executed in two modes.
- Direct mode: iTunes Update writes the ratings directly to iTunes.
iTunes must be on the same computer as SlimServer in this case.
- Indirect mode/Log mode: iTunes Update writes the ratings to a log
file. The perl script bundled with iTunes Update needs to be executed
at regular intervals on the iTunes computer with the log file as
parameter. When you execute this perl script it will write the ratings
to iTunes.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] MusicIP - Pressing Play does nothing

2008-01-07 Thread erland

You haven't created your own custom.map files or modified the
Default.map file in the IR directory, have you ?

If you have, this will override the standard commands and might be the
reasons for your problems.

If you have a default installation of SlimServer and have configured
MusicIP and do see the M icon in the upper right corner of the
SqueezeBox display, it should launch the mixer if you hold the play
button on the remote down for a second or two.

Does the MM icons in the web interface launch a mixer correctly or
doesn't these work either ?

Yes. I did it in two steps as described on your webpage. First select
which slimserver file to install, commit that. Then when it is
installed check the enable box and commit that.

Quite a few ugly lines, but imho none critical.
That's my opinion too.

Maybe I should try to start the slimserver manually (i.e. running the
post-init script I suppose) to see if I get any clues from the script
output.

I will also try mstaj's trick with disable/enable the slimserver in the
webgui to see if that makes the server start.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iTunes ratings and iTunesUpdate

2008-01-07 Thread James

iTunesUpdate doesn't update the XML file, it updates iTunes itself,
which takes care of the XML. (Doing it the other way around would
require iTunes to be closed all the time).

I think to get the number keys working everywhere you unfortunately
need to disable the Favourites plugin or set up a custom key map.
The number keys should still work when you're in the iTunes Update menu
though.
