Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Plugin to run post-scan SQL? Erland?

2008-06-20 Thread Stuart Hickinbottom
Ah, I've only used the Windows GUI briefly. The command-line svn
update command will always merge your changes back in, though.

According to the TortoiseSVN manual it works the same way - it says that
following the update command that changes done by others will be merged
into your files, keeping any changes you may have done to the same
files. So, I think that should work out of the box.

If you checkout from Subversion and then do an occasional svn update
(or whatever through a GUI like TortoiseSVN) then it won't matter if
 the
file does change in svn as your changes will be merged back into the
 new
version. At worse, that merge won't happen and you'll get a conflict,
but you won't just have your work overwritten.

I do use SVN, in particular TortoiseSVN on Winodows. It won't
overwrite any locally changed files, and informs you of any conflicts.
I've never seen a way to automatically merge local changes, though.

I'm surprised. How old is your system? I thought almost all BIOSs on
PCs produced since 2002 or so supported this. I'd encourage you to
keep experimenting with different BIOS settings. Is your NIC a
separate pci card or is it a built onto the motherboard type?

Before the pci event method became the common means of supporting
WOL, some manufacturers included a two wire connector on the
motherboard that would get connected to a similar connector on the NIC.
Perhaps your board has this feature. If it does, you might be able to
find an older 3Com 100Tx card with this sort of connector cheaply on
ebay.

I feel your pain. Life's just no damn good without WOL.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Screensaver idea for your PC

2008-06-20 Thread SoftPhill

Anyone think this would be an iteresting plugin?

A screensaver app for Windows XP that cycled through your players
displaying the artwork for what is playing.

I run a headless system but often leave squeezecenter tuned in on
firefox on XP. I thought it would be cool to let this PC go into a
screensaver mode with bigger artwork pictures and now playing info for
all the players on your network

Is this something others might like to see?

I'm sure there are screensavers around which can display a web page. It
would be easy enough to create a simple web page displaying the currently
playing track/artwork etc. No need to create a plugin.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC terrible stuttering

2008-06-20 Thread bpa

If you are using AlienBBC and RealAudio stream - the radio buffer has no
effect.

If the stuttering only happens on a live streams and the stuttering is
either
* short gaps with occasional small pieces of audio repeating
* longer gaps with missing audio

The above is symptomatic of network problem/congestions and packets
being dropped by BBC server - nothing can be done at SC end.

If you are getting stuttering where you have gaps but the audio is sort
of continuous across the gaps - then the problem is at your end (e.g. PC
overload).

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Last.fm plugin - no personal station ?

I found this out too but it's a last.fm thing. They want you to pay to
be able to use your own station. It's kind of odd that they let you
use other stations but not your own but that's the way it is. Not
really a big deal, just find someone else with your music tastes. I use
pandora also so really no big deal for me.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Beta version of SvrPowerControl

2008-06-20 Thread raglencross

My PC is only a few years old with the NIC being a chip or 2 on the
motherboard, so shouldn't require the cable option. According to the
manufacturer's on-line manual, implementing the magic packet WOL is a
matter of setting a bit in a register. I guess I will have to look into
that. In the mean time, I have a work around whereby I have set the
bios to wake up the PC on application of power. The PC is plugged into
a receptacle that can be turned on and off with a radio remote. Not
elegant, but, along with your plug-in, saves me the trips upstairs to
the PC when I want to use SC. I'm embarrassed to say how many times I
have opted to use SN rather than climb the stairs;
