[SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC - gaps in playback and Bad Despatch

2008-08-21 Thread ModelCitizen

Hi,

AlienBBC has not been running as well as normal. I frequently (once
every ten or fifteen minutes) get gaps in playback (of about one or two
seconds) and sometimes playback just stops and I have to restart the
stream. I have also noticed that the time count on Now Playing seems a
little erratic (every five seconds or so it'll count up two seconds at
one time).

I'm running 7.2 (22708 @ Sun Aug 17) nightly on XP. The only major
thing (that I can remember) that changed on my set up recently is the
addition of MusicIP (but I don't think this coincided with Alien
becoming unreliable).

I've got loads of these in my server log:

Any help appreciated. My network appears fine and player wireless

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC - gaps in playback and Bad Despatch

2008-08-21 Thread bpa

Are you running 2.01 and not 2.00 with an edited install.xml ?

Recently I've had gaps in playback on live streams late at night - I
currently blame it on network demand / Olympics as gaps of a 1-2 secs
in a Live transmission is nearly always a network issue BBC server is
resyncing with the live transmission as packets could not be sent out
in time so they are discarded at server. With Mplayer this causes a
problem as it depletes the internal cache and eventually you will then
get stuttering. Try pressing pause for 20 secs rather than restarting
the stream.

I've seen the Bad dispatch issue happen when I've stopped SC while
playing an AlienBBC entry. After SC is restarted and the entry was
still in the playlist but wasn't playing and so SC has an error that it
can't find the playing entry. This may be a similar issue occurring
after a streams stops.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC - gaps in playback and Bad Despatch

2008-08-21 Thread ModelCitizen

Thanks Brian.

Install.xml has this line:
version2.01b1/version
which I think is the latest AlienBBC?

Most of the listening I've been doing recently has been in the small
hours, quite a bit to the World Service (which replaces radio 4 after
1.00am).

I'd not describe it as a stutter. It is definitely a drop out. The
sound stops for a second or two and I miss the words that have been
said in this time.

I'll do some testing as soon as I've got a moment and see if I can be a
bit more definitive with timings of drop-out and logs.

I have noticed some other stuff in the logs which may be related but
did not post it here as the logs are player specific.

If it only happens on Live streams then it is definitely BBC/network
issue. Also if it is on a live streams - Pause for 20 secs is
worthwhile after you get many gaps.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Plugin that updates rating in id3 tag directly

2008-08-21 Thread Volition

I'm in a very similar position. I have dynamic playlists within
Mediamonkey i use to sync my mp3 devices to. As well as exporting
playlists for My Squeezebox. I was thinking that using like the itunes
plugin or a rating plugin that outputs to a text file the ratings or a
seperate database already, i could then produce a script using a
scheduled event in xp, to make the changes within mediamonkey. As i do
not have any time at the moment i haven't looked into it yet.

But my thoughts are as such.
1. use a ratings plugin that already exists within Squeezebox.
2. Pickup that data using a script in Media monkey.

This Would do exactly what i'm after.

I can work out how to get the updated tags within mediamonkey over to
the squeezebox later. at the moment i just use exported playlists from
Mediamonkey.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] IRBlaster - Transporter - ReadyNAS issue

2008-08-21 Thread Claudius

You'll want to use Togglessh to enable and disable SSH functionality on
the NAS (basically lock and unlock remote access to the NAS). Add
Togglessh once to the NAS through updates and it enables SSH, add it a
second time and it disables SSH. And so on, toggling. You can go in
to RAIDAR and view the logs to see the last state you left it in
(enabled or disabled). From a security perspective, you probably want
to leave SSH disabled most of the time unless you are doing local
maintenance (adding plugins etc)

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] iPeng 0.5 for iPhone / 3G / iPod Touch 2.0

2008-08-21 Thread pippin

OK, the installation looks fine.
A few more things:
I assume you did a fresh install and not an upgrade from an earlier
version of iPeng? If no, then please try to delete plugin-data.yaml and
restart the server. It should be found in one of the following
directories:
c:\Documents Settings\All Users\Application Data\SqueezeCenter\Cache
or at
c:\Documents Settings\user\Application Data\SqueezeCenter\Cache
Vista:
C:\Program Data\SqueezeCenter\Cache

In that same folder (the Cache folder) there's a directory called
templates. You could also try to delete that and restart the server.

You did restart the server (SqueezeCenter) after the iPeng
installation? If no, please do so.
Is JavaScript activated on the iPod/iPhone?
Did you change the configuration directory in iPeng manually? I will
have to look that configuration up and reprot back.

This looks like something isn't found (hence the delay: that means the
browser tries to load something the server doesn't deliver), but your
installation looks OK to me.

Have you tried to reinstall iPeng?

Thanks for the quick reply.

Yesterday night I did a reinstall of both squeezecenter (7.1) as well
as ipeng (05.1). I made sure nothing was left for both programs.

I did wipe out cache and the yml file, restart squeezecenter more times
than I care to remember. Javascript is activated.

When I initially set up squeezecenter I point the music directory; the
default ipeng is automatically pointing to the same directory. I
changed the directory to point to the ipeng configuration directory.

Could there be some security/firewall issue? What is required for the
iPod to gain access to the homeserver? A speicific user? Ports opened
up?

I really appreciate your help.

Just out of interest, would being able to have the time included in the
Now Playing screensaver and screen sort out your requirements?

I ask as I would like time included in the Now Playing screen saver as,
if you are using an SB3 as an alarm clock it makes a lot of sense to be
able to see the time even after the Now Playing screen saver has kicked
in (and before anyone mentions it, I want the Now Playig screensaver to
kick in as I want to see what music is playing and see the time

That's strange. And you then don't see it in the settings pages? Try deleting

Well, the good news is that there is an emulator in the works (called
SqueezePlay, if I understand correctly). The bad news is that it seems
to be at least a few weeks off. But, once it's available, I'll look at
porting the application.

All is working as expected now. Thanks for your quick responses and

turns off but the server keeps running.

I'm running the Squeezecenter as a windows service and don't know if
that makes a difference?

Is there anyhting else I can try? What am I missing?

Thanks for your help.

No bug, intention. The setting has no effect on web skins and iPeng is
meant to work like iPos and also, most people tend to play whole albums
instead of single songs.

There is a workaround. Adding a track (with the + button) will only
add that single track.

Sorry, I don't fully understand what you mean.
While you play a playlist locally, you can not get out of the QuickTime
screen. That's the way iPhone works.
When you are not playing back stuff, does it stay on the screen when
you change to another page (within NowPlaying)? That should not be
the case?
Or does it just stick on top of the screen while you are on the local
playback page? That's a bug in Apple's QuickTime plugin and I don't
know how to fix it, but it should go away when you leave that page.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] 7.1 on OSX: iPeng (or other plugins) installation update

2008-08-21 Thread untechnoman

When I choose local playback (after selecting a playlist, artist, album,
etc), there is a little play icon in a grey band at the top of the list.
To activate the local playback function I select the top most track in
the list; the Quicktime playback starts and overtakes the screen, so no
album info is visable. Selecting 'done' in the upper left corner
terminates playback and allows exiting the Quicktime screen.

I thought that when I read your blog that I could swipe away the
Quicktime screen and get back to the album art, list etc. much like
switching screens from the album art to album listing of tracks. So to
make a long story short, I understand what your saying. This is a great
app. I know there has been a lot of talk about this eventually being a
native app. You can add me to the list of people who can't wait.

Thanks for your help

That was correct. In my configuration the iPeng directory is pointing
to the playlist directory (which by default is the same as the
directory for the music library).
Will have to check with Erland, but I think iPeng reads configuration
files from two directories: the one defined in the settings, and ALWAYS
../iPeng/Configuration

So maybe this causes trouble, please try to set the iPeng configuration
directory in the settings to something else.
