[SlimDevices: Plugins] Arbitrary play Plugin?
Hiya, I've got an idea of a plugin that would be very usefull for me and maybe others? Maybe it already exists (even partially). I have squeeze center installed on my living room media PC. It indexes mp3s stored on my NAS in the store room. On the SC PC, I'd like to be able to double click (or even drag down to a systray icon) an arbitary mp3 stored anywhere and have queeze center open, and play it without adding it to my music index (it may or may not already be a part of it). I'm just trying to gauge how usefull this would be to others, if there is anything out there that does anything close to this, if its at all possible or if anyone was interested in coding it? I was thinking the CDPlayer plugin wasn't too far from what it needs to do? I used to be a perl developer befor i moved to c# 5 years ago so maybe i'll get a chance to look into writing sc plugins, but maybe its not even possible. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Is this softsqueeze issue with firefox or linux or me/
Just a couple of guesses. First, maybe the default application for .jnlp files is not right in Firefox. I've seen where it wants to open with the java executable, and I think it should use javaws. Second, I don't know about Kubuntu, but with Fedora the default java packages are the open ones, not the official Sun version, and they don't work exactly like the Sun packages. Even if you subsequently installed the Sun version, Firefox may still be using the open packages. That is due to the SC7 alarm code -- when an alarm sounds, SC7 *always* issues 'stop' and 'play' commands. I don't know if that's intentional (another way to get your attention?). Perhaps KT should only use the SC7 alarm features if the player is off or silent when an alarm sounds? Or have the KT routine that fluctuates the volume use the SC7 alarm code if and only if there's a lapsed alarm but the player is found to be silent. That would handle both your scenario and cases like a playlist lasting just 22 seconds after the alarm sounds -- long enough to pass SC7's 20-seconds-after-firing test. SC7 doesn't ensure that the client is making noise after 20 seconds, and its 10-random-song fallback means that even players with no playlist when the alarm sounds might stop making noise after 20-30 minutes; I think I'd prefer that KT keep nagging me until I cancel or pause the KT alarm. Maybe that should be configurable, how long after an alarm fires to ensure that the player is still issuing an audible alert. Forever might be too long for my neighbors' taste. -- peterw http://www.tux.org/~peterw/ free plugins: http://www.tux.org/~peterw/#slim AllQuiet BlankSaver ContextMenu FuzzyTime KitchenTimer PlayLog PowerCenter/BottleRocket SaverSwitcher SettingsManager SleepFade StatusFirst SyncOptions VolumeLock peterw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2107 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=52710 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins

I don't think (but am not sure) that having two copies of mplayer will cause problems. I can't work out what your set-up is, and how you were trying to put the file in the trash. If mplayer was actually visible in its folder, there should be no problem putting it in the trash as usual, and I would not expect a problem emptying the trash. However if you tried to remove it using Terminal, there may have been a misprint (there certainly is a misprint, but it may only be in your post), as there is no such folder as /user/local/bin, it is /usr/local/bin. Do you have the GUI program MPlayer in your Applications folder? (Note the difference in case between mplayer and MPlayer)? For some time now this is all you need. Hi, I have a couple of SLimp3's (firmware 2.3) connected to 7.2 and can confirm it does work correctly with these versions. I tested a few message.displays and durations between 2s and 60s worked fine. It actually works alot better than the old 6.0 version as I used to get a pause when a message went away and the screen would blank before returning to the slimp3 clock.
