Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: 7.3 Plugin Installer

2008-11-22 Thread Michael Herger
One more thought... should we add the currently listed repos as defaults in 7.3?

Did any of the plugin devs already write a script to create the .xml snippet
automatically? I'd like to enhance the plugin builder to do this in the same
process. I'm too lazy to do this manually all the time :-)

I'm sorry, I can't find that suggestion. What was it about?

If you add my repository you will see that the description for my
plugins contains both:
- The description of the plugin
- A description of the changes since last version of the plugin

The idea was to split this into two different elements in the xml, for
example a desc element and a changes element.

If you split this into two XML elements, it would be nice if the
changes element interpreted line breaks as br so you don't have to
put things like lt;brgt; in the text in the xml element. Today my
description element generates line break by putting lt;brgt; in the
text itself.

I think peterw did something which he posted in this thread:

To me it also feels like the par building in the plugin builder should
be discarded (or at least be optional) since we now have chosen to
distribute plugins as zip files instead of par files. Are there some
features with the par packaging which is useful even though the par is
just bundled inside the zip ?

Sounds reasonable to me. Especially if updates are listed in a separate table.

If you split this into two XML elements, it would be nice if the

put things like lt;brgt; in the text in the xml element.

That should be feasible. Template Toolkit has a filter for this kind of things.

Set single line left element to 'blank', set use Squeezcentre font to

Jumbo title appeared as overlay on Softsqueeze too! (It was already on

If you are a developer that want to make sure my plugins are
continuously developed, please see this thread:

Not looked at it - but to use the installer it will need an install.xml
(actually to allow it to be removed...) See my InfobrowserAddons for
minimal install.xmls - if there is no modules definition it will not
show up on the plugins list or try to be installed.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: 7.3 Plugin Installer

2008-11-22 Thread Triode

So Michael - I wil implement Erlands proposal of a 'changes' param as
well as a 'desc' param in the xml parser. This should be shown on when
requested by the user (i.e. on mouseover or something) and should be
available in at least the upgrade section, possibly the install but I
am not sure about that. Ideally as Erland says it should support
linefeeds being convered to br

Erland - this will be localisable just as the desc field. Does this
suit your requirements?

 Michael

As I responded off list Michael - I'd prefer to do something outside
the server code for this. As we have the default repo url, I'd like to
look at something really simple to make the current repos on the wiki
available via the default repo.

The reason for doing this is that the aim is only to use the
additional repos bit for developers and authors of plugins that you
don't want to recommend (for whatever reason). Other than that users
should not need to know about the repo locations. I'm happy to write a
script to merge repos registered on the wiki into one and then check it
in to svn or whatever the route would be to get it to the default repo,
but I think this is far preferable to adding default links in the server
code to the existing repos (which may then change)

One other thing I was thinking about (which won't make 7.3) is whether
we should have a post install action which a plugin is able to include
if it wants something done one on installation before it is started for
real?

I am thinking about this for Alien on windows as I think it may be an
idea to include something to install mplayer direct from the download
site on install (for other plats people can install manuall). Are
there any other use cases for this - if not will do some special for
alien.

It can go in a Bin folder within the plugin which will be writable -
need to try on Vista to see what UAC does for this though. We already
use this for the mplayer.sh script which ships with alien on non

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Custom Browse: How to delete a menu from Music Library

I have just started with Custom Browse and I created a new browse menu
which I then added to SqueezeCenter's Music Library menu folder. --
So far so good...

Then I realised I was not happy with the name that I had given to my

 [08-10-31 21:25:39.8920] Plugins::SuperDateTime::Plugin::convertTime
 (4188) Converted Gametime=10:30pm

Now the interesting thing is, that 10:30PM is being picked up from an
upcoming Portland game this evening. Meanwhile the Knicks game has
finished (they lost to the Sixers, not surprisingly) and is shown as
Final on ESPN's scoreboard page. The Nets aren't playing at all and
aren't shown at all on ESPN's scoreboard page.

However, SDT is combining all this info and displaying that the Knicks
are scheduled to play Portland at 10:30PM. (Believe me, losing once per
day is enough for them, they're definitely not playing Portland.)

So it must be that ESPN has yet again changed their HTML. Seems like
 every season they tweak something...

Hi Steve-

This is fixed in the upcoming version. I went ahead with your new
approach to parsing we discussed over email. I've sent you a few
subsequent emails, with no responses back. Are they landing in a span
folder?

-Greg

If you go to the alien settings page what does it say about mplayer?
It may have got it again if you restarted the server? Does it play?
(there's another error with the current 7.3 nightlies which means it
won't parse all of the iPlayer menus, but it should play in the
Alternative Listen Again ones)

It will play - I have tried playing an Alien live stream through
SqueezePlay and and SB3.

Would it pick up mplayer from the previous install in server/bin ?

Yes probably - can you restart the server and see if it installs the
next time?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: SuperDateTime - Current Date/Temperature and/or Baseball Screensaver

2008-11-22 Thread GoCubs

I've gone ahead and posted SuperDateTime 5.8.0 to www.gregbrown.net

-Overhauled NBA parsing (Thanks Steve B, Sarah and Hannah).
-Stock information now viewable via Duet controller
-To support our international friends, stock display/refresh is now
24/7.
-Unit of measure for certain forecasts and Duet is now configurable
-German translations (Thanks Juergen)
-Misc bug fixes

The NBA parsing now utilizes some CPAN HTML parsing libraries.
Hopefully this will be a more reliable way to parse the HTML and will
result in requiring less tweaking. For this support I had to include
several additional libraries with the build. Please let me know if you
have any issues loading the plugin. If this works out well I'll look at
updating some of the other parsing to utilize the HTML parsing
libraries.

*** PLUG ***
I hope you all enjoy SuperDateTime. I've spent countless hours on its
development and support.

SuperDateTime is and will continue to be free, however if you would
like to offer a token of appreciation please feel free to make a quick
donation through the link on www.gregbrown.net. If donations aren't
your thing, please click through my Amazon links for any of your future
Amazon.com purchases as I get a minor referral bonus.

I really appreciate everyone that has already contributed.

Thanks
-Greg
