[SlimDevices: Plugins] Playlist Manager 3.1 help please
Hi, Just replaced Slimserver 6.5.2 with SqueezeCenter 7.2.1 on my SB3. Everything went flawlessly except that I can't get Playlist Manager to work. I've put it in the C:\Program Files\SqueezeCenter\server\Slim\Plugin folder and rebooted Squeezecenter. The plugin box is checked but when I hold down + - it sends the currently playing track to Zapped Songs instead of giving the menu. Can someone please point me in the right direction as I really love this plugin and used it all the time on 6.5.2. I think the confusion here is the difference between displaying RSS Feeds as a screensaver and displaying them through Home > Extras > RSS Feeds > $someFeedName. In screensaver mode, RSS Feeds does not offer any button control, and pressing an arrow button will do nothing (if the Squeezebox is off) or kick you out of the screenaver mode (if the Squeezebox is on and playing or idle). On the other hand (and I didn't know this before investigating your note), if you get to the RSS Feeds from Home > Extras > RSS Feeds, then you can use arrows to cycle through headlines and text at your own pace. I think most of the built-in screensavers behave this way. Many months ago, I recall a conversation on the forums in which I mentioned using buttons to cycle through information displayed by the SuperDateTime screensaver. Some senior Logitech/Slim Devices staff (Dean?) expressed surprise that there were such "interactive" screensavers. I would love it if the RSS Feeds screensaver allowed arrow navigation -- as it is, I can only stand to read one or two headlines in RSS screensaver mode before I lose patience & give up. The RSS Feeds plugin is *much* better in the interactive (Home > Extras) mode! I just opened an enhancement request asking that manual control be added to the RSS screensaver mode. Please vote for it if you agree. When launched from favorites, some played and some didn't. When launched from the dynamic playlist menu, all worked. Re-creating the favorite for the ones that didn't work made them work again. I think the problem was that I had created a folder for some of the dynamic playlists and didn't create a new favorite after adding the folder because I didn't realize it would break the link. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng support thread
I could be wrong. It is definitely not just 5 minutes. then again, on the readynas duo, rescanning my music collection takes over night (14 hours) but when I do the same thing on an old XP laptop that I sometimes use as a SC server, it takes one hour total. I haven't tried the ipeng with the XP server. I'll play with that. And the next time I rescan and use the readynas server I'll try to time it better. But the readynas is very slow! (although it streams my flac files just fine, so it does work). -- garym garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=51929 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins

Judging from the performance with my test library, which has around 3.000 albums and takes 2 min to load on a 1 GHz Via C7 server ReadyNAS seems to have really a hard time to provide this data. Even if sorting does demand time on an incremental scale in iPeng 1.0.4 (will be better in the next release, but I tried to be conservative), I would not expect it to need more than 5 min to process the 4.000 albums so I would attribute the rest of the time on the ReadyNAS. Does it get better (don't try, just in case you already did) if you build the iPeng cache a second time WITHOUT doing a full rescan of the database? iPeng will also cache a few 100 artwork thumbnails after reading the database. Ans while this works completely in the background for iPeng (so it doesn't slow it down), the server will have to build those thumbnails, since they have a different size than the ones SC uses by default. If this is part of the problem, I could add an option to use other thumbnail formats in the next iPeng release. -- pippin --- see iPeng at penguinlovesmusic.com pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=51929 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins

Is there a plugin for slimserver that speeds up things? Puh, that's a kind of setup... Actually I don't know of limitations in library size so far, but yours is probably the biggest one I've heard of so far (as of the number of albums, which is the critical point). The REAL issue here is, that the ReadyNAS is not really a fast machine, there are a lot of reports of it becoming pretty slow when delivering data. 2. Unfortunately, iPeng has to reload the whole database everytime you do a rescan. This is no iPeng limitation, SqueezeCenter is simply not able to tell it what has changed. I filed an enhancement request on this half a year ago but so far it's unclear, if and when it will be implemented 3. Generally I would assume that plugins will slow down things instead of speeding them up. With new schema (in SC 7.4) it may be possible to implement an incremental update as a plugin, but I still hope this functionality goes in natively. Sorry that I cannot give you a more positive answer, but you really have a combination of a very large library on a pretty low-spec NAS. Does it help if you let iPeng just run for a while to load the database (you should be able to see whether the whole database was loaded when a) Album art starts to load AND b) (important in 1.0.4) you see that your album list is complete (Z... is present). If everything is loaded, I would quite iPeng (to make it save it's cache) and restart it, actual operation of iPeng should not be affected by the database size or the slowness of the NAS. -- pippin --- see iPeng at penguinlovesmusic.com pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=51929 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: FindArt plugin beta
It seems that a clear/rebuild database is the only thing that connects the Album Art to the WebUI and the Controller UI. I thought I read that deleting the SC cache (/var/lib/squeezecenter/cache) forces a rebuild? A cache purge on the browser doesn't work. I tried a machine that never loaded the SC WebUI and the cover.jpg is missing after successfully adding it with the plugin from another machine. This is the image resource string in the SC WebUI for the large version of the Album Art: http://hostname:9000/music//cover.jpg I would imagine the piece that goes between music/ and /cover.jpg comes from the database? I am not familiar with the control loop on feeding the WebUI or the controller UI but would it make sense for the plugin to feed SC with the proper resource info after the Album Art is successfully saved. Perhaps this is being done already? Also, I thought base SC functionality was for a cover.jpg, folder.jpg, etc... to be automatically processed in presenting the UI's? Overall I think the Album Art plugin as designed is perfectly suitable for the task of gathering Album Art. I like that the process of adding album art is combined with listening. I have almost a 1000 albums. About 50% have the correct artwork. The thought of completing the rest is a daunting task. Doing it in small bits at a time is great. Assigning album art is most certainly a meat computer (human in the loop) activity since there seems to be no conclusive method for an automatic selection of the correct artwork. Of course there is nothing like doing this task correctly when the compressed files are created. My rip/compress process has evolved over time, along with the various tools that I used. Now I just use iTunes to embed the Artwork into the files themselves as I create the files. That seems to work fine. Back to the plugin ... Me thinks a slightly different search strategy might be useful. Search for Artist first and then a search with in the result for title. Thanks BPA for your efforts. It has certainly made my use of SC much more enjoyable! Between browser caches, SC caches and Controller caches - sometimes it can be difficult to "persuade" the updated art to show. Getting to the art to show iun the browser is usually quicker than the Controller as it is harder to clear the controller caches. Things to do 1. Note location of SC cache directory (see WebUI Settings/Information Tab) 2. Stop SC. 3. Clear Browser cache. Stop browser. Restart Browser and clear caches again. 4. Clear SC cache directories FileCache, a directory CoverArt (can't remember the exact name but has Art in it) and templates. 5. Start SC. 6. Browser Music folder down to the tracks. Click on the artwork to get it bigger in its own window - this also forces a re-fetch. If the above doesn't work - then I'll work out some test to verify cover art file. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=49245 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins
