Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] SoftSqueeze installation problems

2008-12-29 Thread jeffbarish

1. The directions at this web page:

http://softsqueeze.sourceforge.net/download.html

tell us to install Java (v > 1.6) and Slimserver (v > 6.0). I
installed openjdk-6-jre, which I understand corresponds to v 1.6. I
installed SlimCenter v 7.3.1, which certainly satisfies v > 6.0. The
same directions say to start softsqueeze from the command line using

java -jar SoftSqueeze.jar

SoftSqueeze does not start. According to jetradio, softsqueeze is not
compatible with SlimCenter v 7.3.1 even though directions do not
declare this limitation anywhere that I have been able to find.
Evidently, the directions are wrong for failing to disclose this
putative restriction.

2. The directions at the same page say that it is not necessary to
download softsqueeze because "Softsqueeze2 is included with the
slimserver 6.0. To start Softsqueeze follow the instructions in the
help section of the slimserver." If instructions are available in the
help section of the slimserver, they are hidden well enough to elude
me. Evidently, the directions are wrong again.

3. At the home page for SqueezeCenter v 7.3.1 there is an Extras item
under which appears SoftSqueeze. There is a two-step procedure for
installing and running SoftSqueeze. The first step is to install Java.
It's checked because I already installed Java in 1 above. The next
step provides a hyperlink labeled "Click to install and run
SoftSqueeze". Clicking that hyperlink downloads softsqueeze.jnlp, but
it does not install or run it. Evidently, the directions in
SqueezeCenter are wrong.

4. Back at

http://softsqueeze.sourceforge.net/download.html

there are directions for Slimserver integration. Open one of the
following links

http://localhost:9000/html/softsqueeze/applet.html
http://localhost:9000/html/softsqueeze/webstart.html

to start softsqueeze as a Java applet or using Java Web Start. The
first opens a page that is black and nothing happens. The second opens
the same directions that appear in SqueezeCenter under SoftSqueeze (3
above), and following the directions in this page is just as bootless
as is following the directions in SqueezeCenter. Evidently, these
directions are wrong too.

5. When I search this forum for threads related to softsqueeze, I find
only questions about how to use it. Evidently, other people have
succeeded in installing and running the program. I sure would be
interested in knowing how they managed it.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Multi-Library/Custom Browse slow?

2008-12-29 Thread erland

Custom Browse is known to run a bit slower than standard browse menus,
one reason for this is that it runs more complex SQL statements towards
the database than what the the standard browse menu does.

I think it will run several SQL statements when you enter the "Artists"
menu, so even though one of them takes 1 second the others might cause
it to be a few seconds on the Controller.

Patches are always welcome if someone finds a way to optimize the code.

The NPRRadio PLugin does nothing more than make it easy to find the WMA
stream for NPR Programs.

If your SliMP3 can play WMA streams now - then there is nothing to do.

If you are on Windows - it should play.

If you are on Linux or OSX you will have to install another app and
associated conf files to decode WMA.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] CustomBrowse quick skip with remote

2008-12-29 Thread quietdragon

I have just started using Custom Browse 2.3 with SqueezeCenter 7.0.1
with an SB3.

In the standard Music Library menu, when I access the library by album,
pressing 8 button on the remote ("TUV") will skip to albums beginning
with T, pressing the 8 button twice in succession will skip to albums
beginning with U, and thrice in succession will skip to albums
beginning with V.

When I access Browse by Album using CustomBrowse, I need to press the 8
button twice in succession to skip to albums beginning with T, and there
doesn't appear to be any way to skip quickly to albums beginning with
U.

Is this expected behaviour, or is there something awry with my
installation?

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Multi-Library/Custom Browse slow?

2008-12-29 Thread milowg

I have recently installed the Multi-Library and Custom Browse plugins in
order to seperate out my children's music from the rest of my music.
What I want to do is be able to look at "New albums", "Artist", etc
only in one library.

What I have set up are two Libraries, one with Genre "Baby" and one
without Genre "Baby"

What I've found is that the load time of the menus on my Squeezebox
Duet Controller are very slow. For example, when I click on
Main->Artists, it takes about 3-5 seconds to get the list of artists.
When I do this using my old Music Libary->Artists menu it takes under 1
second.

When I run the SQL through MySql Query Browser, it only takes 1 second
or so.

Has anyone else seen this slowness? Could it be something in the plugin
code?

appear. Here's what I get:

Any idea what is going wrong?

Also, the download page for SoftSqueeze says that I might not need to
download it because it is included with slimserver 6.0. I assume that
SqueezeCenter 7.3.1 supersedes slimserver 6.0. The instructions
continue that I should "follow the instructions in the help section of

the slimserver. Any idea where to look?

2008-12-29 Thread Phil Meyer
>However it doesn't show the old ratings of this album. If I open the

With the patch I sent to Erland to include in Trackstat, when you restore an
xml file containing stats, it should work if the only change in the name is the
file extension.

For each statistic or history item in the xml file, it should try to do an
exact url match against the tracks in the SC database. If that fails to find
the matching track, it will look for a close match, ignoring the base folder
and file extension.

You should run a trackstat Restore function with the log level set to Debug for
the TrackStat plugin, it may give a clue as to what is going wrong.

SrvrPowerCtrl is completely different from the Prevent Standby plugin.
Prevent Standby is a formal part of SqueezeCenter. SrvrPowerCtrl is a
3rd party plugin originally written by Adrian (aka tenwiseman) and
maintained and enhanced by me (with help from others) since
SqueezeCenter 7.0. SrvrPowerCtrl in its current form, with some
configuration tweaking, will be able to do exactly what you want to do.
I should be posting a new version within a couple of days with some new
features too.

The only way unless you have musicbrainz tags in your music files is to
open up the TrackStat backup file in a text editor and do search and
replace to replace .mp3 with .flac. If you have changed all mp3 files
this should be pretty each, if you just have changed some it gets more
complicated.

If you like to help debug the problem you can:
1. Give me the complete path of a track that didn't work, I like to see
the path before and after the file change.
2. Turn on debug logging on "plugin.trackstat" in SqueezeCenter
Settings/Logging and perform a restore operation and post the log (or
mail it to me). Also specify one of the tracks that should get ratings
transfered.

This is nothing to do with a specific plugin; there's currently a limitation in
SC. When you have too many plugins with settings pages, you will see this
problem (I know, because I got that error myself this morning, and a developer
gave me a patch to apply to the SC code that increases the limit).

To prove this, you could try removing some other plugins and then restarting.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC addon to read iPlayer menus

2008-12-29 Thread bpa

You need 2.03 or later.

Currently AlienBBC 2.4 for 7.3 is readily available.

I think Because of time problem over vacation, the version for 7.2 have
not been added to AlienBBC website but are available from the AlienBBC
(except for mplayer.exe for Windows) codebase:
http://code.google.com/p/alienbbc/source/browse/#svn/trunk

If you give the following info I can advise on an upgrade path.
What version of SC are you running ?
What OS are you using ?
What version of AlienBBC are you currently running ?

I'm sorry to say it isn't just AutoDisplay, it appears to be some or all
of Peter's plugins. I'm guessing here, but from my research this error
is caused by a limitation in Perl, so there could be a common bit of
code in Peter's plugins that is generating this error on my particular
set-up. KitchenTimer is the only plugin that is definitely not causing
this error, though I haven't tested each one in isolation except
AutoDisplay.

Let me know what other info you need from the logs.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AutoDisplay on 7.3

2008-12-29 Thread claypole

I have a wierd problem with AutoDisplay. It has taken me ages to narrow
this down to this plugin, I have had to remove all my plugins and
reintroduce them one at a time. I am using the "Extension Downloader"
to install plugins.

Basically, with AutoDisplay installed, the web interface no longer
works (screen is blank) and server.log reports the following:

[08-12-29 11:27:17.7781] Slim::Web::HTTP::_generateContentFromFile
(2489) Error: file error - INCLUDE_PATH exceeds 64 directories

Any ideas?

For now, I have removed the plugin (had to remove from the command
line) and will not install until this is definitely resolved. It is
possible other plugins also cause this error, as I have not reinstalled
all of them yet, so I will report back if this is the case.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC problem

running windows

loaded alienbbc through extension downloader - v 2,4a4-7.3

squeezecenter settings reports that mplayer has downloaded
successfully, but the test link does not work.

When I try testing using the link in the BIN, it says:

'mplayer is not recognised as an internal or external command, operable
program r batch file.'

When I try to boot mplayer from the file i downloaded from mplayerhq.hu
it opens briefly before shutting down.

The alienbbc shows all the programmes and stations correctly, but
mplayer seems to be missing from the BIN folder in squeezecenter.

I have made firewall exceptions for socketwrapper and mplayer.

I will try a clean install again through sc. Prior to loading through
extension downloader, the test did work on pc speakers, but now not
found. This was with v2.4a3.

Cheers...

What's the server platform? If it is windows have you ensured
socketwrapper and mplayer are allowed by your firewall? For other
platforms its mplayer.sh and mplayer which need to be allowed.

On windows there is a "test" link on the Alien settings page - does it
work?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Changing mp3 files for flac but without losing trackstat data

2008-12-29 Thread Tver

Thanks for your help Erland and Philip!

However, it doesn't quite work yet...

What I've done:
1) Backed up the trackstat data
2) Renamed the flac files so they exactly match the mp3 files
3) Copied the flac files the mp3 directory
4) Deleted the mp3's
5) Performed a full rescan
6) Restored the Trackstat data
7) Refreshed statistics via the Trackstat menu

However it doesn't show the old ratings of this album. If I open the
current trackstat database it still shows .mp3 instead of .flac

Any ideas how to get arounf this problem?

Thanks!

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Question about Server Standby Control from SB

2008-12-29 Thread ppmoore

Hello,

I'm a relative newbie to the SB and the SC. I've been using v6.5 until
I upgraded to SC v7.3.1. I use an old Dell laptop running Windows XP
SP2.

I notice from the web interface page at
Settings->BasicSettings->Plugins that the plugin "Windows: Prevent
System Standby While Playing" is now included by default in the
standard installation. Is this the same plugin that was previously
available as an optional download in v6.5?

This version of the plugin I had previous used could be configured to
specify a time period during which the plugin would be active, so that
for example, the plugin would allow the machine to go into standby
after 2:00am. Now, with this latest plugin, as far as I can tell, there
is no way to configure the plugin, and the machine never goes into
standby. In fact, to allow the XP standby feature to work, I have to
prevent SC running as a Windows service, and reboot the machine. Simply
stopping SC does not re-enable the XP standby feature.

While getting ready to post this, I noticed this post on the 3rd Party
Plugins user forum:
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=48521
"This is the release candidate 4 version (updated 20081031) of the
SrvrPowerCtrl plugin."

Is this the same plugin, or something completely different? It would be
nice to be able to configure when the plugin is not active, to allow the
macine to go into standby. Can this plugin do this? I notice that the
feature summary includes the following:
* Wait until sleep playing has concluded before shutdown/suspend/etc.
* Monitor attached players and shutdown the server after an idle
period.

Many thanks for any help received,
Paul

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: NPR Radio plugin

2008-12-29 Thread bpa

When I wrote the plugin (mid 08) I didn't support a specific date option
because the availability of WMA version of programs do not go back that
far (6 months) - older programs are mainly in RealAudio format.

So some reason for not implementing it:

1. I tested various dates and I felt the probable confusion amongst
users when some program play and other do not meant the feature would
not be that helpful.
2. the amount of effort to develop and test a date entry system across
3 user interfaces (web, Controller and SB) be worthwhile vs. the number
of probable users.
3. The "previous" while crude was easy to implement and I thought would
meet most user's needs of going back a few days.

*Creating an URL by hand.*
The URLs are not straight forward - a program URL is clear enough
http://thin.npr.org/p.php?pid=7&d=20081220

The "d" parameter is the date(e.g. 2008 12 20) . The "pid" parameter is
the program id such as "Morning Edition" or "All things considered" -
but this URL returns a HTML page of program segments not a playable
playlist.

Furthermore, each segment has unique numbers such as
http://thin.npr.org/s.php?sId=98538331&rid=7
http://thin.npr.org/s.php?sId=98443492&rid=7

This means the segment can be reached from different menus such as
program, Topics, etc. and is not tied to a program or a date.

So there is no easy way to create a playable URL that can be entered
into Tune-in.

A feature request is unlikely to be implemented unless there is a
change in User interface support.

I suggest if you want to trawl NPR back editions now - use a PC and the
WaveInput plugin.

I also think the "previous" will not work beyond the start of the
"thin" interface which was about nov 07.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] SqueezeNetwork stations don't play on SoftSqueeze 3.7

2008-12-29 Thread jazzophil

I'm having problems playing many of the SqueezeNetwork stations on my
SoftSqueeze 3.7 software player, which I control from my SB Duet
Controller. When I try to play a station, first the message "Getting
stream info" appears. Then the message "Connecting..." continues to
persistently pop up at the bottom of the controller display, making
further input very difficult.

The server log file shows the following:
[08-12-29 09:25:25.1131]
Slim::Networking::SqueezeNetwork::PrefSync::_syncDown_error (359) Sync
Down failed: No such player: 66:1f:91:6d:27:d4, will retry in 5850

Is this because the SoftSqueeze's emulated MAC address
(66:1f:91:6d:27:d4) is not recognized within the network?

I am using SqueezeCenter 7.3.1 and SoftSqueeze 3.7. When I use the
Controller as a player, all stations work without any problems.

Glad for any advice!

Phil

Could you make sure you have also enabled debug logging on
"plugin.sqlplaylist" ?

You should then get some messages between these two rows:

Code:
