Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Custom Browse and playing other songs in album

2009-03-31 Thread chill

D'oh! I think there's a law that covers this kind of situation. For my
tests with the 'play all songs in album' option I'd managed to choose an
album for which I only have one track! No wonder I could only get one
track into the playlist!

Just to summarise: I've now set the global SC option 'Play Other Songs
In Album' to 'Play only selected song', and I've unchecked the 'Play all
songs in selected album' option in every Custom Browse menu.

With these settings:
- if I press the play button on an individual song from anywhere in the
Boom menus, then only that song plays
- if I press the play button on an album title, the whole album is
loaded.

Exactly what I was looking for.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Custom Scan: Not importing all iTunes ratings

2009-03-31 Thread Chunkywizard

erland;411560 Wrote:
Are you saying that it works if you check the use album rating check
box ? Does it only work for unrated tracks ?

It only works on unrated tracks. The full turn of events was:

I scanned (to get my test tracks in actually)
I noticed that a new album was rated 4 stars for every song
Looking back at iTunes only one song was rated in that album
I noticed my 'use album rating' box was checked

Since then I have rated all songs in that album. My overnight scan
transferred these ratings to the album, including the songs within that
album with problem characters in! However, I still have tracks with no
ratings in SC. These are ones that are rated in iTunes but have the
problem characters in eg Gravity's Rainbow.

I'll have to set this up in my own environment but since I do this on my
spare time I haven't had the time to do it yet.

That would be most appreciated. If you want my test files (abcdef) I
can upload to my server and email/PM you the links, just say.

I also did a couple more investigatory things. On problematic files
(abcdef', abcdef[] and abcdef) I rating then all as 1 star in SC using
TrackStat. I then rated then as 4 stars in iTunes. Each night I do a
complete rescan and I want to see if having then as rated in SC allowed
then to update with the iTunes rating, it didn't. This morning the three
files are still rated as 1 star.

Again, I'm not sure if that helps, but I thought it might point the
finger at something!

Thanks for all your help so far

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Wave Input plugin v1.00

2009-03-31 Thread TheLastMan

raglencross;410842 Wrote:
I don't know if you are still out there Lastman, but I would like to
know if you finally got wave input to work under Vista with your
Soundmax card. I have the same card and following your instructions, I
too was able to get a stereo mixer under recording devices. Selecting
it still does not give me an output via the wave input plugin except
when I loop the PC's headphone output to the line input with a cable
which I was able to do anyway without the mixer using headphones and
line input. I am beginning to suspect that one the reason the mixer is
disabled on full duplex cards is that the same thing can be accomplished
by a physical loop back, although with a loss of sound quality due to
 analogue/digital conversions. Comments anyone?

Sorry for the delay, just found this!

My situation is slightly different from yours. The sound chip is on my
laptop, and it lacks a line-in, only a microphone socket. I am not
trying to get wave-input to work as it only works where the computer
you are using is also your SqueezeCenter server. To get sounds out of
my Squeezebox from my laptop I would have to use some software capable
of converting system sounds on the laptop into an MP3 stream that could
be broadcast over my network.

Either way, to get sound out of the Squeezebox either using wave-input
or MP3 net-casting you still need a proper sound interface.

Using the Soundmax on-board chip I can only get system sounds recording
running partially. I found that enabling the stereo mixer function
did not allow me to record using stereo mixer as the source, but
strangely the PC sound would now be recordable if I selected
microphone as the source - Weird!

However the sound quality was awful. Tinny and compressed, lacking
both high and low frequencies. A bit like AM radio. I have not tried
the cable loop like you, but I doubt it would give reasonable sound
quality either

I think the lack of a line-in function and no proper system sound
recording is a deliberate policy on most laptops for some reason.
Maybe it is too much of a resource hog, or perhaps it is a copyright
protection thing.

So I abandoned that option. I have since found a couple of low cost
USB bus-powered sound interfaces on the web and am thinking of trying
one for those occasions when I need proper sound recording / processing
on the laptop.

Cheap and cheerful (£25 / $35), basic specification using in-built
Windows drivers:
http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/UCA202.aspx

More expensive (£65 / $90) but with higher resolution recording
functions, bespoke ASIO drivers etc:
http://www.roland.com/products/en/UA-1EX/

The second is probably over-kill for recording laptop sounds or for use
with wave-input plug-in.

However, if your computer is desktop PC, I suggest disabling the
on-board sound in the BIOS and using a proper sound card. One of the
Creative labs line should do the trick. The Creative Sound Blaster
X-Fi Xtreme Audio can be had for about £35 / $50.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: New versions of erlands plugins

2009-03-31 Thread Moonbase

Erland, in -bitrates.cb.xml- the Bitrates are presented -reverse
alphabetically sorted- (instead of numerically sorted).

This is due to the following code you use:

Code:

menudata
select case when lossless=1 then 'Lossless'
else floor((bitrate+16000)/32000)*32000 end as calculatedbitrate, case when
lossless=1 then 'Lossless' else concat(floor((bitrate+16000)/32000)*32,' kbps')
end from tracks
where
audio=1
group by calculatedbitrate
order by calculatedbitrate desc
/menudata

The case statement will always return the compatible aggregated type
of all return values, which is -STRING- in this case. Thus, numerical
bitrate values will be sorted alphabetically instead.

Unfortunately, the Lossless in the SELECT cannot be represented by
some arbitrary number like -MaxInt- in order to always get a numeric
result, because further searches would then fail.

I came up with a quick 'n' dirty solution to patch up my Bitrates
menu, but maybe you have a better idea?

I use a zero-padded calculatedbitrate string for now, but there must
surely be a better solution. Here’s the code:

Code:

menudata
select case when lossless=1 then 'Lossless'
else right(concat('000',floor((bitrate+16000)/32000)*32000),11) end as
calculatedbitrate, case when lossless=1 then 'Lossless' else
concat(floor((bitrate+16000)/32000)*32,' kbps') end from tracks
where
audio=1
group by calculatedbitrate
order by calculatedbitrate desc
/menudata

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Sending music from Musicip

2009-03-31 Thread Nonreality

Something I've never seen mentioned here, and if it has, please excuse
me, is the fact that you can directly send playlists and music from the
MusicIp GUI to SqeezeCenter. You just set up in preferences-Send To
Squeezecenter as your choice. Then any mix you make you just hit the
send to button and it will start playing on your Squeezebox. You can
highlight songs from your library and send those too. Kind of nice
feature for running you Squeezebox from your computer and a bit easier
than the SC interface for some things.

Do you have an example of a Slim::Plugin::Base type plugin that will

I'm trying to get the XMRadio plugin working on 7.3.2 and I can't
figure out how to make it appear on the controller menu. I lifted code
from the Random Mix plugin, renamed all its parts, but nothing appears
on the controller and it never appears to get called by Squeezecenter.
Are .Base type plugins are no-longer supported?

.Opml type plugins, in contrast, are straight forward.

Thanks,

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Consolidating albums with tracks in multiple directories?

2009-03-31 Thread PaulyT

Thanks! So, it appears this bug fix has been applied to 7.3.3, but after
I grabbed the nightly snapshot, installed, and completel re-scanned my
library, I still have this problem. The album and artist name tags are
the same for all tracks, the main difference being composer - and hence
a different directory in my library. Is there anything else I can try
here? This is a really annoying problem for me as many classical CDs
have multiple composers.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Consolidating albums with tracks in multiple directories?

2009-03-31 Thread PaulyT

Note that this is not a variable artists issue. The album, artist, and
album artist are the same for each track. It's using either the
composer or (more likely) the directory as the grouping flag; that is,
if three of the tracks all have composer X, then there will be an
album with just these three tracks in it (along with separate
albums of the same name with the other composers' tracks).

Thanks for the very informative reply, Thelastman. As you suggest, I
think I will have to abandon the on board sound chip and go with a

you, I have concluded that it is probably a Vista DRM issue that keeps
the stereo mixer from acting as a recording device.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] plugin browse menu help request

Slim::Plugin::Base type plugins are definitely supported, the Random Mix
plugin contains some different menus so it should be a good starting
point if you like to see how to do things.

If you don't get it to appear on the Controller at all it probably
doesn't call Slim::Control::Jive::registerPluginMenu during the
initialization. You typically want to call this function somewhere
inside the initPlugin or postinitPlugin subroutines.

Feel free to to post some code if you don't get it to work and someone
can take a look at it to see which parts are missing.
