Hi,

Thanks for the response. It is working this morning. I didn't change
anything but I can now access Top 20 Pop hits - yay!

Epoch: do you know, off hand, how one would restart SqueezeCenter from a
shell script on OSX? Not a problem for SqueezeCenter 7.4 as
SqueezeCenter itself knows how to do this. But for 7.3.3, OSX is the
only platform on which SrvrPowerCtrl doesn't know how to restart SC.
This one's easy:

SC is using the older StartupItems scheme for the service. The related
admin command is:
sudo SystemStarter start|stop|restart SqueezeCenter

see man 8 StartupItems for reference information.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Album Catalog Creator v1.2 (ACC)

2009-06-14 Thread SilverRS8

Album Catalog Creator is a web application (requires Internet Explorer)
that will generate a HTML catalog of your album collection stored in
Squeezecenter.

I just posted version 1.2 of Album Catalog Creator (ACC) on
acc.vanholt.nl.

For questions/support drop a message in this thread.

The database scheme hasn't change so I expect it to work. Version 8 of
squeezecenter will have a new database scheme which is not supported yet
by ACC. I will support it though but it may cost some time.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] MusicInfoSCR problem with Alien.

2009-06-14 Thread Millwood

This is a long standing problem which I misdiagnosed as an SC problem.
See http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=12104

Symptom.

Play the listen again selection Composer of the Week. On the SB3, set
the size to large. The Title goes blank. The right hand entry (I use
elapsed time) remains.

Setting the screensaver to now playing does NOT change this.

Turning off the plugin and restarting SC does fix this, the display
now shows the name of the track.

This is exactly what I needed...and as long as I'm keeping the OSX
methods parallel to what I'm doing on linux...I think this is the
approach I should use.

# sudo SystemStarter restart SqueezeCenter

..isn't always reliable with my quick tests. But calling SystemStarter
in a script:

SystemStarter stop SqueezeCenter
/bin/sleep 15
SystemStarter start SqueezeCenter

..has yet to fail.

Again, I feel a little embarrassed that I'm opting for the
primitive-Pete approach and eschewing your more sophisticated
solution...turning down your offer of a nice Côtes du Rhône in favor of
a bottle of Budweiser.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Beta version of SvrPowerControl

2009-06-14 Thread epoch1970

No worries, man.
But if we have desktop users complaining the machine shuts down on them
(99% macs are desktop machines I'd say) then we may need to resort to
more complicated means.

One last thing before I put the subject to rest. On my mac, which I
don't normally use as the SC server, but only as a desktop, I have
activated players monitoring.
1-I have Total Players Recognized: 0 and yet player sleep will try to
sleep the machine, only because SC is running and players monitoring
activated. Is this a bug ?

2-Since I am not playing anything and I am logged in, and monitoring is
set to 5 minutes, my own stupid Applescript popup comes up every five
minutes, menacing to shutdown the machine and I have to click cancel.
Better than having the machine suspend, but obnoxious on the long term.
I looked for a remedy, I will not implement it, but here is my idea:
- add to the dialog a button called Later. When Later is the exit
condition of the popup, then sudonot.pl could in turn...
- ... connect to the local SC server and get the srvPowerControl pref
for the timeout,
- apply an exponential backoff factor to the returned value, perhaps
capped to say, the standard suspend value found in pmset
- set this new pref in srvPowerControl.
A quick telnet session to examplify:
Code:

pref plugin.srvrpowerctrl:nIdleWatchdogTimeout ?
  pref plugin.srvrpowerctrl%3AnIdleWatchdogTimeout 5
  pref plugin.srvrpowerctrl%3AnIdleWatchdogTimeout 15
  pref plugin.srvrpowerctrl:nIdleWatchdogTimeout ?
  pref plugin.srvrpowerctrl%3AnIdleWatchdogTimeout 15

Ideally, the prefs shouldn't stick across the next time the machine
suspends, but I don't know how to do that.

Ideally ideally, the OS knows it is not time to sleep. I should know it
as well, and simply refuse to sleep the machine, silently.

Good point. Yet I'm not too optimistic about getting it on the App
Store playing over EDGE or 3G, Apple has a stated policy of rejecting
this to avoid excessive bandwidth use.

Regarding excessive bandwidth use policy, there are many internet radio
streaming iphone apps that have 128k streams allowed. Shoutcast,
tuner2, etc. It may help if you submit it and default the ipeng player
to bitstream limit in player audio settings to 64kbs upon submission to
app store.

As long as the user is willing to put up with having automatic login
disabled, this shouldn't be much of a problem. From my cursory
googling, it looks like hooking the login and logoff events so that
scripts get run at those times is pretty straight forward. The scripts
could set and clear srvrpowerctrl blocks via the CLI. Thus: boot the
machine and it comes up in SqueezeCenter mode...waiting for a user to
login. Absent a login, SrvrPowerCtrl does it's thing. On login,
SrvrPowerCtrl is blocked for the entire time the user is logged in. On
logout, SrvrPowerCtrl is unblocked again.

Clair, sample, et logic, n'est pas?
