A ticket has been filed. I had noticed this before, but I thought it
was a limitation in SC, the plugin or the iPod. But then I noticed that
the Controller was able to display all text.

And another thing: Trying to open the webpage for the iPeng plugin (the
latest version according to the plugin manager in SC 7.3.4) makes Safari

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Missing Alien Playlists

2009-08-06 Thread agbagb

I posted this puzzle initially in the SC forum, to no avail, and I'm
wondering if the Alien guys here have a comment, as almost all of the
missing radio streams are via Alien. Here's what I wrote in this
thread:

http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=66357

___

While doing a big flac2mp3 transcode (and very good it is too) I
temporarily pointed SC to my back-up HDD (so from the usual Q:\Music
Flac to L:\Music Flac). HDD L is a mirror of HDD Q (using BounceBack
Pro).

My designated PLAYLIST folder in each case is actually called RADIO and
contains only saved net radio streams (mostly from Alien BBC). Although
that PLAYLIST folder appeared in the left hand pane (I use CLASSIC
view), with its usual contents, trying to play a radio stream merely
produced an EMPTY message in the right hand pane - no radio. (I can get
the streams to play by selecting them direct from Alien or
whatever...).

This morning - transcode completed - I pointed SC back to the usual Q:\
HDD, hoping that my radio PLAYLISTS would be there. Well, they are - but
again if I try to play one, I just get EMPTY as a message (and again I
can still play direct from Alien).

In each case, I could play all the saved Flac albums from their
respective subfolders under MUSIC FOLDER without any problem - it's just
mt radio playlists that are non-functional.

So where have my working playlists gone? Do I have to rebuild them from
scratch by finding them, playing them, and re-saving them into the
PLAYLIST folder? If so, why?

Most BBC programs only are valid for 7 days so perhaps they have

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Missing Alien Playlists

2009-08-06 Thread agbagb

I'm talking about live, streaming radio, not the play it again stuff
(with as you say, limited availability).

Here's the BBC R3 Alien live stream that I was listening to every day
via my saved Playlist (last saved over a year ago):

http://127.0.0.1:9000/browsedb.html?hierarchy=playlist,playlistTracklevel=1noEdit=1playlist.id=12160player=00%3A04%3A20%3A07%3Ae1%3Ac2

That now comes up as Empty, as described above.

I can listen to the R3 live stream via Alien itself (ie, without saving
it as a Playlist) and, at this very moment, it is:

http://127.0.0.1:9000/plugins/alien/index.html?index=0.3player=00%3A04%3A20%3A07%3Ae1%3Ac2sess=

Of course I could just save it again, and solve my problem that way.
But I have 20 various live streams saved as Playlists (half from Alien,
half other stations from elsewhere) and would prefer not to have to find
and recreate them as fresh playlists)

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Thinking about getting a Squeezebox to here Live365

2009-08-06 Thread walterconklin

Hello,

I am thinking about getting a Squeezebox so I can to listen to Live365
stations when I away from my computer while retaining the option of
listening to my XM radio.

I like to listen to Old Time Radio. A lot of Live365 stations broadcast
Old Time Radio. The problem is that few of these stations provide a
schedule of the shows that will air on a day. I like to schedule my
listening to here shows that I like. The Now Playing tab is usefull,
though I have to be near a computer to look up the current and upcomming
tracks. Accordingly, I was wondering if someone has created a plugin for
the Squeezebox which will show the current song (or program) being
played _and_ upcomming songs or tracks.

Sincerely,
Walter

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Missing Alien Playlists

2009-08-06 Thread bpa

What you have done is nothing to do with Alien and I cannot help. I
don't think those sort of links are useful are they are not the proper
URL and will probably break when AlienBBC is updated or the database ids
changed as it depends on the assigned playlist id.

It is best to save the actual BBC URL in a playlist or a Favorite.

As a side issue - many BBC link have changed in the last year and so it
is timely to update them.

1. The main live national stations nolonger need Alien as all user can
play the WMA stream and are available under Internet Radio/More
radio/BBC - play the station and save it as a Favorite if you wish.

For example - Radio 3 Live
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/listen/live/r3.asx

2. The local/regional radio stations still need Alien for a while yet -
again play the radio station and save it as a Favorites.
For example the proper URLs are
Local Radio London is
http://www.bbc.co.uk/england/realmedia/live/localradio/london.ram
or Radio Scotland
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/playlive/bbc_radio_scotland

Once saved as a Favorite you can copy the URL into a playlist.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Missing Alien Playlists

Thanks for that. I hadn't realized - with respect to your Point #1 -
that the Beeb was available in this format outside the UK (I'm a
Birkenhead lad living in Dallas, TX), so I'll go that route and save new
playlist URLs.

I guess I still need Alien outside the UK for all the Beeb archive
stuff for now? I don't playlist those anyway - for obvious reasons - so
I just access them as needed via Alien.

The big deal for me is to solve my missing Radio 5 Sports Extra for the
4th Test tomorrow!

Still a puzzle as to why *all* my playlist streams stopped working.
Maybe someone over in the SC Forum will figure it out.

The availability of WMA stream (albeit at 48kbit) outside of the UK was
only enabled in June so you can play the live stream through
SqueezeNetwork - no need for SC.

At present for non UK users - the Listen Again iPlayer programs are
in RealAudio and AAC. AAC format gives better quality but is not yet
available through Squeezecenter.

Regarding the playlist - did you rescan all the files ?

not

Or am I not looking in the right place for the saved info? I'm getting
that http. by highlighting the playlist item, right clicking,
looking at Properties, and copying that entry. In the actual playlists
folder - called RADIO - in my system, if I dive into that via Windows
Explorer, what is saved for the BBC R3 entry is just: Radio 3
Live.m3u.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC and 7.4

2009-08-06 Thread luga00

Hi I'm running Vista 64 on a WHS.

I'm trying to get AlienBBC both installed and running but I'm not
having much luck.

I have this line typed into the Download Extender Additional
repositories:

http://alienbbc.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/testrepo.xml

I click apply.

I'm not sure what I'm meant to do from then on.

I see no new entries to the plugins listed in the plugins tab at all.
Should I also select AlienBBC for 'install' in the Download Extender
tab?
If I do this then I get AlienBBC v2.5 in the plugin tab and not 2.6.

This is all seems a bit convoluted so I'm not sure what I'm meant to be
doing TBH.

Any help would be much appreciated.

the Alien route to the live R3 stream is better quality than the

It doesn't matter how you get to the WMA URL as they all play the same
stream.

AlienBBC 2.5 only lists the RealAudio Radio 3 but AlienBBC 2.6 beta
test has both WMA and RealAudio listings. However why use the AlienBBC
listing when there is an SC entry.

Both WMA and RealAudio have the same bitrate so the quality difference
depends on the difference between the WMA and RealAudio codecs.

The RealAudio stream can still be useful sometimes if the WMA stream is
busy and won't connect. However using the WMA stream means no
transcoding load on your PC.

I presume that it is possible to setup such Dynamic
