Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Beta version of SvrPowerControl

2009-09-21 Thread bernt

Maybe someone find this useful.

I upgraded Ubuntu 8.04 LTS to 8.10 and then to 9.04. Somewhere I lost
WoL.

After some googling I found various solutions but the only one that
worked for me was to change the NETDOWN value in /etc/init.d/halt from
yes to no.

/etc/init.d/halt
NETDOWN=no

Kind Regards
/Bernt

Thanks, I'll have to check it out. It could be (kinda) MIS' fault. Many
plugins, including my own, expect their own settings interfaces (web
page, player UI, etc.) to do a little extra work to make a settings
change take effect. It sounds like MIS might be one such plugin. I
expect you also could've restarted SBS 7.4 to make the changes take
effect.

FWIW, I'm still not running 7.4 on my main system, and have only very
recently begun to do more testing with 7.4. I've started releasing new
versions that work better with 7.4 in my test repository,
http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/slim7/repodata-test.xml, but I haven't
made any changes to SettingsManager that I would expect to have any
bearing on what you tried.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] SettingsManager broken 7.4?

2009-09-21 Thread Millwood

I tried to use settingsmanager to move settings from one SB3 to another.
I checked all the choices.

Result - both wound up the same (I think), but nothing like what I
started with.

MusicInfSCR I think went to default - not sure. But in a strange way.
On the Web interface, the settings were OK. But I had to apply them on
the web interface to each SB3 to make them happen.

I don't have the interest to do a better job of problem determination -
I almost never change settings anyhow.

(I tried it because I decided to clean install 7.4 and had to
reconfigure both my SB3s).

Thanks for the update.

I downloaded 4.4.3 and restarted the server...

I entered the settings page for MIS and save the settings, but now the

I changed the custom Alarm setting back and forth and also restarted

Squeezecenter uses a patched version of faad and flac so you should use
them rather than the standard binaries. In the case of faad, the non
patched version does not support radio streaming (as you found!)

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC for BBC Radio Scotland stopped working?

2009-09-21 Thread jimwillsher

Many thanks bpa (again...). I'm now using the BBCiPlayer plugin and it's
working!

I hit the same problem as I did a few weeks ago. The binaries shipped
with squeezecenter are i386 only, and I'm running x64. So I've had to :

apt-get install ia32-libs

to get it working. Previous I was able to just install flac and symlink
to that (replacing the binary in
/usr/share/squeezecenter/Bin/i386-linux), and I tried the same today
using faad. But it failed (silence) so I've had to install the
ia32-libs.

Thanks again,

Jim

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC for BBC Radio Scotland stopped working?

2009-09-21 Thread bpa

BBC have now made Radio Scotland available on Flash/AAC and WMA streams.
The BBC have stopped RealAudio for local stations - so I suspect they
have done the same for regional.

For Flash/AAC - use the BBCiPlayer plugin. As the BBC seems to be
cutting back on RealAudio - you should move your BBC listening over to
BBCiPlayer plugin and stop using AlienBBC. Install BBCiPlayer (make
sure it is version 0.9c or higher) and try it out. If you have issues
BBCiPlayer - please post them.

For native playing of live stream and no transcoding - why not use the
WMA stream (available using Radiofeeds)

It keeps the time constant because UTC has no Daylight Savings Time and
because those of us that use commercial HF run off UTC and gray line is
very important to us.

UTC can be useful.
I use it a lot to communicate an exact time across time zones.
Sometimes you discuss something with three people in three different
timezones and probably even on two different days so a common
denominator is kind of helpful. And during summer time there's the big
advantage that there's probably nobody who actually DOES live in UTC
time zone.

The time zone doesn't seem to be set correctly on the Touch so I
suspect it might be hard to get the UTC time, it seems like it just sets

It might work on 7.3 but you would have to install it manually through
ssh and I haven't tested it at all on 7.3 so it might crash immediately.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Question about iTunesUpdate and ReadyNas

2009-09-21 Thread Craig, James
/media should be where the files are on the NAS device. The script only checks
that the end of the Mac path matches, so the leading /Volumes shouldn't be an
issue.

The problem looks like the "" thing - is that what actually
appears? It should be the path to the file on the Mac. That implies your iTunes
doesn't know where its files are, which would be a bit worrying!

I'll add the perl path, I'd thought I'd done that before!

Thanks for the response. I realized that the perl script doesn't have a path

works to add #!/usr/bin/perl as the first line of the script - this is standard

told iTunes to look in /media.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Question about iTunesUpdate and ReadyNas

2009-09-21 Thread Craig, James
I would guess that you don't have perl installed on your Mac?
Or maybe one needs to explicitly call perl on the script e.g.

perl ./iTunesUpdate.pl /Volumes/media/Music/Playlists/iTunes_Hist.txt

I'm not really a Mac expert though.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Question about iTunesUpdate and ReadyNas

2009-09-21 Thread slope_rabbit

James,

Thanks for the clarification. Based on your suggestion, I checked out
the Readme file. I unchecked Direct Update. When I attempted to run
the perl script manually on my mac, it had some errors. Do you have any
suggestion on how to fix the script so that it can run?

:~/Downloads/iTunesUpdate$ ./iTunesUpdate.pl
/Volumes/media/Music/Playlists/iTunes_Hist.txt
: command not foundline 18:
./iTunesUpdate.pl: line 19: use: command not found
: command not foundline 19:
./iTunesUpdate.pl: line 20: syntax error near unexpected token `('
'/iTunesUpdate.pl: line 20: `use POSIX qw(strftime);

Thanks.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] internet radio problems with softsqueeze

2009-09-21 Thread bassa

The problem is solved!
I did a restart of my server and router.
I feel kind of stupid i never tried before! (Since my server is linux,
the idea of restarting never came up to me.)
I don't know what the problem is, probably some kind of cache problem

Thanks for the effort Bpa!

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Softsqueeze, Squeezeslave, or squeezeplay on the PS3

2009-09-21 Thread ralphy

All the changes required to build squeezeslave on the PS3 are now in the
'repository' (http://code.google.com/p/squeezeslave/source/checkout).

Unfortunately, I don't know anything about running linux on the PS3,
hopefully someone else on the forum can lend you a hand.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] MIS & BOOM & Alarm...

2009-09-21 Thread Michael Herger
Ok, there was a bug indeed. Custom fonts in alarm mode didn't work. Should
be fixed in 4.4.3. Please give it a try - you'll have to go the MIS
settings page after installation and just save the settings once again.

Yeah, but you have to go to screensaver settings to preview. Then go to
Daylight settings to chose anoter aspect and then to screensaver
settings to preview the new aspect.

I think you misunderstood what I meant about the aspect in text 2/3. I
just wanted to show if it was actually dusk or dawn being shown. But
when I think about it it is silly, so forget it. But the moon-info would
still be cool, though it would have to scroll which could be annoying to
look at.

Btw I noticed the mr. Herger nominated you for recomended 3rd party
plugin(applet). I second that.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] A better Favorites Page: Does it Exist?

2009-09-21 Thread chinablues

Well, had a look at the pencil option...doesn't do it for me sorry.
Looks like if I want to add anything like artist name, I have to type it
in myself? What I want is something that looks exactly like the 'new
music' page, except not ordered by date/time, but alphabetically. I
just want to be able to click on the heart symbol on any album...this
gets it added to the favorites page & the next time I look at favorites,
there it is in correct alpha sequence. Also I want to be able to hover
the mouse arrow over an icon and the album by artist appears. Seems to
be quite a simple display to me & I'm surprised no one else seems to
want it.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Question about iTunesUpdate and ReadyNas

2009-09-21 Thread Craig, James
iTunesUpdate doesn't use the iTunes library file, it communicates directly with
the iTunes application.
It can only do this on Windows or OSX.
Instructions for using iTunesUpdate on LINUX are in the plugin's readme file.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: BBCiPlayer 0.9 - with UK and Non UK Support

2009-09-21 Thread bpa

I noticed the update issues as well.
Do you have the automatic update enabled ?

It is faster to start up because there is no mplayer which had its own
buffer to fill.

The quality should be better using the default AAC as it is a more
modern codec than RealAudio.

For non-UK Local radio both Live and "Listen again" AAC and WMA live -
seem to be provided at 80kbps which I think is the same as UK listeners
so this would also provide a quality boost for non-UK listeners.

There may be one non-UK WMA issue outstanding - 0.9c fixed the playing
WMA streams for Local live but Regional (e.g. Ulster, Foyle, Scotland,
Cymru) Live WMA still don't play - I'll look into it.
