Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng support thread

2011-08-08 Thread vagskal

I had the album context menu open and tried to add some 110 tracks to
the current playlist which had some 12 tracks when a resync cache
kicked in and I was kicked out to the artist list where iPeng just
froze. I had to quit iPeng. When I restarted iPeng it crashed. After
all this the new browser entry under Extras is gone - there is nothing
under that menu. A complete shut down of iPeng and a restart did not
produce the browser either. Everything else works. This is iPeng on the
iPad.

I just wanted to let you know.

Thanks for the new version!

Thanks,

yes, others are seeing that too (the missing Browser), it even came up
during the beta.
Yet I seriously have _no_ idea what could cause it and can't reproduce
it. Have to go through that startup sequence carefully again.
Could it be that there is nothing else in Extras for you? I suspect
that menu is somehow being deleted and then recreated empty.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng support thread

2011-08-08 Thread vagskal

I have seen the browser. It was then the only item in the Extras menu.
Now I only have the menu but no items in it. I do not think I had an
Extras menu in iPeng before the update.

It could be that the menus somehow got recreated after the crash. When
the browser had disappeared I looked for it in the My Apps menu and
noticed that the order of the apps had changed (Facebook came before
Twitter, while it had always been the other way around). A complete
shutdown and restart of iPeng put the apps back in order but did not
produce the browser.

BTW What makes the browser an Extra, requiring its own menu, and not
an App?

Good question. Do you thing it woul better be under Apps?
One advantage is that this way it also works in SBS 7.3 :)
OTOH this problem might go away if I put it under Apps.

I woke it up manually again. And again, about 70-80 minutes later the

I will watch this funny thing and keep on reporting. Any idea to
unravel this mystery is welcome. :-)Well, I think the only way you'll be able
to get to the bottom of this
is by closely studying your system's logs. Take a look at this:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingGNOMEPowerManager for tips about
logging power management events in Ubuntu. Also, check the SBS server
log to make sure that ReallyPreventStandby stops firing off the
once-per-minute gsession-inhibit instances when you expect it to.
Also, modify the inhibit checking script that I posted above so that it
logs the inhibit state the date and time:

# sudo touch '/var/log/squeezeboxserver/inhibit-check.log'
# sudo chmod 777 '/var/log/squeezeboxserver/inhibit-check.log'

check-inhibit.sh:

Code:

  #!/bin/bash
  LOGFILE='/var/log/squeezeboxserver/inhibit-check.log'

  for i in {0..1..1}
  do
  INHIBIT=`dbus-send --print-reply --dest=org.gnome.SessionManager
/org/gnome/SessionManager org.gnome.SessionManager.IsInhibited uint32:-1`
  DATESTR=`date`
  if [[ $INHIBIT =~ true ]]
  then
  echo At $DATESTR: Inhibited.. $LOGFILE
  else
echo At $DATESTR: Not inhibited.. $LOGFILE
  fi

  sleep 1
  done
  sleep 30

Finally, Google coughed up this tidbit, from
http://live.gnome.org/GnomePowerManager/FAQ:

-*I've set the computer inactive timeout to one minute and it still
takes longer than that to suspend.*-

gnome-screensaver is a session daemon that monitors user input, and if
the mouse has not been moved, or the keyboard been pressed then it
starts a timeout. When the value of this timeout reaches the value set
in gnome-screensaver-preferences, then the login is marked as 'session
idle'. This is when GNOME Power Manager performs all the session idle
actions such as enabling low-power mode and lowering the laptop panel
 brightness.

As soon as the session is marked at idle, GNOME Power Manager starts
it's own 'system' timer. When the timeout set in
gnome-power-preferences is reached, and the CPU load is idle, then the
idle action is performed, which is usually to turn off the screen, or
 to suspend or hibernate.

The sliders in gnome-power-preferences are set to start at the value of
the session-timout + 1 minute, as we cannot logically trigger before the
session is marked as idle. If you adjust the value of the 'session idle'
timeout in gnome-screensaver-preferences then the start of the sliders
in gnome-power-preferences will change accordingly. This makes it more
 obvious for new users.

2011-08-08 Thread Chunkywizard

Hi erland,

a really small discrepancy I have just noted. Looking at database query
I see that in trackstat statistics I see:

Number of unplayed songs0
Number of unplayed albums 0
Number of unplayed artists 0

but in SBS statistics I see:

Number of unplayed songs10
Number of unplayed albums 3
Number of unplayed artists 3

I made a SQL Playlist to only play unplayed songs and it said 'no
songs' so I think SBS statistics is wrong.

One other thing, what is the difference between TrackStat stats and SBS
stats??

Odd - everything's working again now.

Just after my last post I checked the Radio 1 stream on the BBC iPlayer
and it was fine, tried on the Squeezebox - nothing. So I uninstalled and
then re-installed the iPlayer plug-in but with no luck. The fact that
everything is back about 15 minutes later is a bit baffling. Perhaps
the BBC were tweaking something?

Now Whitebear is offering PCM, MP3 and FLAC. And apparently SBS is

This is a bug in SBS that needs to be fixed in due course. (Either by

Fortunately I can quickly make a workaround in Whitebear to fix this.
Expect it in the next Whitebear release in about ten days.

Any progress on this very annoying issue yet? I have not heard many
action responses . It bothers me that I am paying $13 per month for a
non functioning supported service.

Gordon,
Is there a CLI that will turn off multiple players (while leaving the
server running) that could be entered as a custom command in Srvr
PowerCtrl ? (http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89435)

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng support thread

2011-08-08 Thread pippin

I believe there is already a ticket for this, I'll have to have a look
at it.

IIRC, it's not comppletely simple. The main problem is that if the
iPhone hasn't been in use for a while it's usually not connected to
WiFi and the server and I believe it's not going to connect these
connections before iPeng has to go to the background. I could see
whether I can keep it running to get the command out.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Sirius :stream stopped..you are no longer ...

2011-08-08 Thread Ron Olsen

Check the bug report to see what's going on with this issue:
http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=17157

You'll see that the bug has been reopened and assigned to Andy G with a
Target Milestone of 7.6.1.

I hope Andy can arrange a testing session with developers on the Sirius
end to get to the bottom of this. My guess: the problem is on the
Sirius side (sending erroneous No longer authorized responses to
SBS).

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng support thread

2011-08-08 Thread souwalker

I understand, as a separate purchase, iPeng can now stream FLAC files
via the iPhone.

Am I correct in understanding that once that feature is activated, my
Iphone will be registered as a player in Squeezebox Server which means
I can then stream my FLAC files from my NAS via my home Wifi network to
my iphone 4 and listen to the files from my earphones?

What about drop outs as FLAC files are huge. My home wifi signal is ver
strong though.

Rgds
Patrick
