No idea. The question is: does ReadyNAS support WOL or not? If it does,
it will even wake up when off as long as it's connected to Ethernet and
has power, that's how WOL works.

Just another quckie question on the WOL feature. The Netgear Readynas
requires the WOL packet to start up the NAS from a cold 'off' as the NAS
won't be in standby so to speak but will be turned off with power
connected from the mains. Does this make sense and can the WOL packet
start up a NAS from cold?

I am puzzled by Synology's attitude to LMS. They always produce their
"package" late and non-standard for no particular reason I can fathom.
Lots of people whinge endlessly on the Synology forums about their
version of LMS. I think it really needs the intervention of a plugin
developer with an intimate knowledge of what they are doing wrong (I've
no idea what a "perl architecture string" is, for instance). However I
am sure your time is better spent elsewhere!

It must be a real bind to make plugins and then find you ave to make
modifications to cope with just one make of server. On my last NAS I
was using SSODS (because my 107+ was no longer supported). It was much
more complicated to install - but once up and running I never had an
issue with it. I might revert to it if wrangling the Synology package
continues to be such a pain.

I don't know - I think someone with a Synology should really push them
to use the standard LMS versions for arm and also to make their perl
architecture string standard so that plugins which ship binaries (such
as spotify) work on synology without modifications.

Looking at the LMS "Bin" directory, it contains versions of the flac,
faad, mac, sox and wvunpack binaries that are different from the
Synology ones. So, just to be safe, I have replaced the Synology
versions of all of these with the LMS ones.

I notice that the Synology LMS "Bin" file also contains versions of alac
and ffmpeg that are not provided with the LMS package. It makes me
worried which other LMS files are non-standard in the Synology package.
However, as long as it works OK I suppose it should not bother me.

Very useful information, thanks!

Well I do often use the BBC R3 iPlayer plugin live feed, particularly
for my "hi-fi" setup in the living room where I don't have a DAB tuner.
I doubt my attention span would last 4 hours, but I might have it on in
the background and my NAS would need to transcode that - so I think I
will update the flac binary "just in case".

Thanks for the heads up.

iPengHD does of course support & display lyrics if they are tagged
into the file's lyric tag... :) I just tag all my 27,000 and growing
files with the lyrics as I add/rip/buy them and use iPengHD to display
the lyrics on my iPads... (can't recall if standard iPeng on iPhone does
also as I rarely use it now).
