Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng support thread

2012-09-12 Thread Astix

Hi there!

I am a great fan of Squeezebox and i use iPeng to control my music with
my iPhone and SqueezePad on my iPad (Also great fan of those :p).
Everyting works fine atm, i run Logitech Media Server (LMS) on my
computer which has all my music stored and i have a Squeezebox Receiver
hooked to my Home Cinema in the living room and a Squeezebox Radio in my
bedroom. Ok so far so good right :)

Now instead of downloading music to my computer each time and thus
creating this huge collection (also very time consuming) i finally
realised that online streaming will be the future and therefore i am
making the switch to Spotify, i have a premium account there and i
really really like the concept (and don't even mind paying for it ;-))
So now i come to the problem, i would really like to control my music as
before, but for some reason Spotify does not play through LMS, only
works when connected to mysqueezebox.com (is that right?) I tested this
with my SB-radio which i can easily connect with mysqueezebox.com,
however i cannot connect my Squeezebox Receiver to mysqueezebox.com
(this is the old UDAP issue, it works on LMS just cannot switch it to
mySB). So first question do u have to be connected to mySB.com to play
Spotify content? it cannot work on LMS? If it only works through mySB i
may have to reset my SB receiver again and go through the NET:UDAP
procedure... (i do not have a Duet controller as i have no use for it,
and it's crap resolutionwise compared to retina displays of iPhone and
iPad).

Second question is less important, but i am very attached to nice cover
arts (high res) as i also use my iPad (which i can attach to wall) as a
cover-display; it seems that the coverart through iPeng (and Squeezepad)
running the Spotify App in iPeng/Squeezepad are of really low quality...
i find this strange, because they look really nice using the Spotify app
itself.

Thanks a lot!

Yes it worked like a charm!!! I'm amazed it was that easy hehe

Oh and even te coverart looks better! On my iPhone with iPeng it looks
actually really good (not much diff than my own highres covers) on my
retina iPad with Squeezepad it still looks a bit blurry in fullscreen
(not the thumbnails), so yeah i really hope Spotify will eventually
deliver higher res covers which will look sweet on the new iPads too!!

Sorry to bring this up again (see #4666)

If there is no decoder selected on LMS (mine is showing as disabled and
I can't change that as it's faded) with bitrate limiting on you'll still
get the song streamed and played the other end but it'll not be
transcoded so it'll be the same outcome with bitrate limiting on and

[SlimDevices: Plugins] IR Blaster Companion App

2012-09-12 Thread indifference_engine

Hi All,

I've developed a little webpage that sends commands to the irBlaster
plugin to allow you to control your hi-fi from any javascript-enabled
web browser. It's very much a proof-of-concept idea but I have tried it
on my laptop (Vista/ie9) and on my HTC phone (Android ICS) and it works
great so I thought I'd share it with you.

WHAT IT CAN DO:
Use any web browser to send any command to any device that irBlaster is
configured to use.
Send codes repeatedly (useful for volume changes).
Send Macros (eg turn on then select input).
There is a little status box at the top that indicates when the
command-set has finished.

PRE-REQUISITES:
Squeezebox server running the irBlaster plugin.
SB2/3/Transporter/Touch with ir emitter.
irBlaster plugin correctly configured with a lirc file.
(Basically if the irBlaster plugin works then so should this!)

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO TO MAKE IT WORK:
Download the attached htm document and save it either locally or to a
web site.
Open the file in a text editor and modify lines 13-16 to hold the
details of your SBS server, the irBlaster enabled player, and the target
device (from the lirc file).
Edit lines 289-295 to change the sample codes into something that is
useful for you. BEWARE - Javascript is case-sensitive!)
Open the file in your web-browser, enable javascript, click a link, and
your device should respond!

TECHNICAL DETAILS:
The page uses javascript and AJAX (I think - I have never done any web
programming before) to send asynchronous HTTP GET requests to the
irBlaster CLI on a timer.
The function that does this is simply called 'Send()' and takes an
unlimited number of arguments, each of which is an array with the
structure:

Code:

['command1', 'device1', count1, pause1], ['command2',
'device2', count2, pause2], ...

  ('...' denote optional parameters)

device, count and pause are optional.
If device is missing or null then DEFAULT_DEVICE is used (from line
16).
If count is missing or null then 1 is used.
If pause is missing or null then 0 is used.

The first *command* is sent *count* times, then the page waits for
*pause* * 150 ms, then the second *command* is sent and so on.

eg, To turn your default device on, wait 1.5s, change to CD input, and
turn the volume up five notches you would use something like this
(although the command names may be different in your lirc file):

Code:

return Send(['Power_On',,,10], ['CD'], ['Volume_Up',,5])

Ultimately I would like to get the list of players, devices and commands
from the SBS server and use them to populate some drop-downs so it would
be usable immediatly (you would still need to enter the server details
though) but I haven't figured out how to do this or even if it's
possible. I would also like some funky buttons instead of boring
hyperlinks - maybe some web guru could skin it but html really isn't my
thing!

Enjoy,
Indifference_Engine

PS: There is an android app that is supposed to be able to do the same
thing as this page but with a nice GUI (www.coversal.com and look for
'Custom http Plugin') but I can't get it to work on my phone! If anyone
wants to give it a go, the configuration prefix to use with it is:

Code:

status?player={playerID}p0=irblasterp1=sendp2={device}p3=

1 Mbps is low for FLAC. Depending on how good the connection is and what
format you are streaming in (sample rate).

You need to activate SSH in the Settings/Advanced/Remote Login menu on

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] IR Blaster Companion App

Is this something that would be suitable to run as a web page accessible
in SBS/LMS web interface ?
Or is it mainly thought as something you would install on a separate web
server or run from the local hard drive on the computer you are sitting
beside ?

I'm just asking because if it's something that logically should in in
SBS/LMS web page it would probably be fairly easy to package it as a
plugin to make it easy to install.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Erland's Plug-ins, Large Collections, and Hardware Requirements

2012-09-12 Thread erland

prabbit wrote:

 4. I ran Database Query to look at how healthy my LMS/TrackStat
environment is. Frankly, according to the queries, it's not very
healthy. There are a lot of duplicates with musicbrainz IDs (919), there
are numerous TrackStat inconsistencies, and a couple of Custom Scan
 inconsistencies, too.

Erland, it's #4 that concerns me the most. Should I start a separate
thread for those? I can post the query results. I would need some
guidance on addressing the potential issues. It may be that some of them
are benign, but you'd have to be the judge of that.

It's probably a good idea to start a new thread if we need to discuss
this further.

But for the duplicate musicbrainz ID's the reason is likely the changed
principle Musicbrainz did 2010 when they started to use the same
musicbrainz id on a track on a normal album and the same track on a
compilation album. Unfortunately this breaks the possibility for
TrackStat to uniquely identify music files with musicbrainz id, the only
solution to get rid of the problem is to deactivate the musicbrainz
support in TrackStat through the Enable musicbrainz tags option in
TrackStat settings.

If you have duplicate musicbrainz id's the number of duplicates are
going to increase every time TrackStat does a refresh, this happens at
startup and after rescan unless you have disabled the refresh
functionality. If you disbable musicbrainz tag functionality it means
that if you rename/move files TrackStat won't be able to keep the
statistics for them. To get rid of the existing duplicates,
unfortunately the only solution is to:
1. Take a backup of TrackStat data through TrackStat settings page
2. As an extra safety, you can also shutdown SBS/LMS and take a copy of
the persist.db file in the SBS/LMS Cache directory
3. In TrackStat settings page select to Remove all data and then
specify the full path to the backup file taken in point 1 and use the
Restore from File functionality. The restore operation will make sure
to only import one instance with the same musicbrainz id, so this will
get rid of the duplicates. Remember that the import runs in backgroud so
you need to look in the server.log file to see when it's completely
finished. The Find alternative files option generally makes the
restore process a lot slower, so unless you need the restore to try to
relocate files which you have moved previously which didn't have
musicbrainz tags I would suggest disabling Find alternative files
option. Please note that in a large library with Find alternative
files the restore can easily take many hours. In my own library with
about 4000 tracks it just takes few minutes and is significantly faster
than that if I disable Find alternative files option.

If you get warning about Unused entries, this is typically statistics
pointing to files that either have been removed or moved/renamed and
didn't have musicbrainz tags. If you just want to remove these there is
a Delete unused statistics button in TrackStat settings page. I have
not tried this in a large library but I suspect it could take some time
to execute and while doing so I think the server will be locked, so you
probably don't want to do this when you are about to listen to some
music. Generally the unused entries doesn't cause any problem unless you
have a lot of them so it makes the database a lot larger than it needs
to be.

Feel free to reply in this thread if you just have a quick question, but
please use a separate thread if you feel that you have a lot of
questions.
