Hi Philippe
Thanks again
Here's what I did to create the attached files.
Deleted config.xml
from cmd window: squeeze2upnp -i config.xml -f 21Mar
let program complete
zipped config.xml and 21Mar into 1st Run zip file
Edited config.xml to change and change to flac
from cmd window: squeeze2upnp -f 21Mar2
Started playing to Foobar2000 from LMS
Started playing to CA from LMS (Foobar crashes)
Stopped playing to CA from LMS
from cmd window: exit
zipped config.xml and 21Mar2 into 2nd run zip file

Best regards

It's good that you raise this as a "non-techie". Just to be clear, you
presumably have LMS running somewhere for the SB3's, but do you use LMS
for the Radios too? And did you previously use Triode's BBCiPlayer
plugin for LMS, and/or his applet for the Radios?

It looks like you are using mysb.com.

How to do you play the BBC stations ? The instruction will vary
according to your use.

Do you have a Favorite ?
Do you use the Logitech BBC menu ?
Have you installed the Triodes Applet in your Radio - this applet lets
you play "LIsten Again" programs.

I couldn't resist even more fiddling with the alpha HLS plugin; I hope
you don't mind if you are watching Triode!

With the attached HLS.pm I've done a small optimisation of the string
copies, as already hinted at by Triode. This reduces the number of bytes
copied by around 500 fold, and reduces the HLS decoding overhead
massively on my NAS, from about 40% to about 5% processor load. With
this change, the earlier bug fix and reduction in FETCH_CHUNKS, I'm very
happy indeed - streaming is reliable, interface is snappy, and I'm
heating up the planet just a little less now!

N.B. The attached file has FETCH_CHUNKS = 2, to be conservative. Startup
is even faster still with that set to 1 though, with no issues that I
can discern.

To quote wikipedia:

224.0.0.1 The All Hosts multicast group addresses all hosts on the same
network segment.

Why your router would need to send to the all hosts multicast group to
get this to work is far from clear. Surely this traffic is all internal
to your local network? And most ISPs don't support multicast anyway.

First of all once again many, many thanks to Triode for writing an
implementation of the HLS protocol 'natively' in the plugin, but I too
was seeing high CPU usage on my version 1 Raspberry Pi, so I had to try
your changes too utgg. The patch reduces CPU from 54% down to a
ticking-along 15% so it's well worth looking at if you're suffering from
performance problems until/unless another version from Triode comes out.
Also reducing the chunks to 2 really makes startup a lot snappier.

Thanks both Triode and utgg!

Ok apologies.

To be clear I've purchased from the start and I have to pay again for

I am all for supporting you, but paying again for the same app, goes

I'm currently experimenting with Qobuz and SmartMix again. Right now I'm

On thing I'm seeing though is this error:

OK, and here we go again.
This time I managed to capture the first line, but it's not showing what
SmartMix sent to Qobuz, just the empty list Qobuz returns. So, I'm still
not getting anywhere. It very obedently returns 200 results, but I
cannot say what the results are for, so I cannot manually check them
with the API calls. If I enable SmartMix debugging as well, then I'll
get more info, but still no definite resuts for what is actually sent
off to Qobuz.
This is (again) the result of a SmartMix genre-radio with the genre set
to "classical" btw.

contributors on this thread for managing to recover BBC high quality
live and listen again streaming to the LMS. In particular UTGG, your mod
to Triode’s code to improve the CPU efficiency has enabled my slow CPU
ReadyNAS SPARC to play the full bit rate streams; before this, just
continual rebuffering and not much sound. I did put LMS on a Raspberry
Pi 2 as a backup and that has plenty of grunt without the mod.

Thanks again to everyone for your contributions and overcoming a much
less than perfect BBC transition but despite all this, we are very lucky

Frankly I have no idea. This is all internal to my network. What I do
know is that when I couldn't sq2u to work I looked at what ufw (my
firewall) was blocking, and this was one. When I allowed my server to
see the multicast, the system worked. So some part of the system must
be sending an 'all hosts' request which is relayed by my gateway to my
local network. Beats me, but it works :)

oh ... one interesting chicken & egg problem: because of the problem
with the default parameter, the creation of the config.xml
file does not work properly (no LMS device can be created). Can you make
sure you run squeeze2upnp in a directory where you have rw access ? You
do not need to run it in admin mode. This really (really) should work
with "." as the buffer dir if you start it from an accessible directory.
Otherwise, you can re-run it with -i option after you have set the
to somethign accessible. Also, I've pushed on GitHub, in
the dev directory, a version that, when launched with -i, will records
ALL the discovered upnp devices and will NOT try to create a LMS
instance.

Foobar stops because of lack of audio data. It seems that what you send
to foobar is coming from a stream and there is a timeout happening into
sq2u. The timeout happens when the other play command occurs, because
creation of the other temp file takes too much time. This would probably
not happen if you where playing a file, not a stream. The problem with
streams is that there is always very few data to be buffered. But most
likely, your is on a very slow peripheral (like a network
drive) that can cause buffering problems, stream or not. In this log

Code:

  [08:32:14.697] sq_read:677 [0048773C]: read 1048576 (r:200704 w:62)
  [08:32:14.747] sq_read:677 [0048773C]: read 1048576 (r:98304 w:99)
  [08:32:16.303] sq_read:677 [0048773C]: read 1048576 (r:69632 w:100)
  [08:32:18.779] sq_read:677 [0048773C]: read 1048576 (r:253952 w:74)
  [08:32:18.829] sq_read:677 [0048773C]: read 1048576 (r:110592 w:99)
  [08:32:22.842] sq_read:677 [0048773C]: read 1048576 (r:8192 w:65)

The w:xxx value should almost never be below - 5. The
meaning of this is the amount of time sq2u had to wait to have data
available in the buffer to be sent to the upnp player, calculated this
way : ( - w:xxx)*50ms. For example, with a value of 62,
it means that sq2u waited (100-62)*50ms = 1.9s before getting data !

Anywa, forget the technical explanations, you can do two things:

1/ if the buffer directory G:\garmin is a slow access peripheral (a
network drive for example - or something where file creation can be
slow), change it to a local drive and all issue will be solved
2/ change the parameter to 200 or a bit more. I really
(really) do not recommend using this solution, but you can try

Is anyone using an RSSText item in their custom clock screensaver?

I cannot get this working at all. I have tried the default one supplied

I have tried creating my own custom one, trying all sorts of options but
I cannot get it to output anything.

I can create static text, clocks, etc but nothing using RSSText.

Any ideas anyone/ Erland?

Thanks.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Qobuz.com streaming plugin

2015-03-21 Thread Michael Herger

I'm currently experimenting with Qobuz and SmartMix again. Right now I'm
trying to look at the other side of the equation, reading the log Qobuz
generates. Sadly it very quickly generates more than 1000 lines of log
and the initial query gets cut off which makes this a bit difficult.

The server.log file is just a file on your file system which you can
open using notepad or wordpad or whatever other text editor. You're not
limited to the 1000 lines in the web browser (and even there you could
increase the number, if you wanted to).

[15-03-21 16:21:34.6500] Plugins::Qobuz::API::__ANON__ (708) Error:
Timed out waiting for data

Sounds like there's a problem communicating with Qobuz' servers.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] WaveInput not working after JRiver installation

2015-03-21 Thread bzlrbi

Everything had been working just fine with WaveInput until I installed
JRiver as a music player on my Dell Vista desktop. Since then I have
not been able to get WaveInput to stream into LMS 7.9

I've uninstalled JRiver. I've uninstalled and reinstalled drivers as
well as WaveInput. I've tried to go back to a pre-JRiver restore point
unsuccessfully, getting an "unidentified" restore problem error
message.

To my eyes, everything *looks* okay. I still have Realtek's Stereo Mix
driver under "recording". When I launch WaveInput, the minutes:seconds
counter looks fine. There just aren't any sounds! (I'm not having any
problem streaming audio files directly from my hard drive to my office
stereo using my digital RCA cable.)

My assumption is that the installation of JRiver caused some sort of
issue with the drivers, but I can't tell what happened.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm at a loss without my favorite third
party plugin. Thanks!

Hi Philippe
Thanks yet again. My G: drive is the windows/boot drive (i.e. local)
mounted in the PC and is an SSD. I moved everything to a new
subdirectory G:\s2u and repeated the tests. At least this fixed the
default problem (see 1st zip file)
However, I'm still getting the low w:xxx values when playing the radio
streams, see 2nd zip file. This problem goes away when playing a music
file situated on another local drive, 3rd zip file.

Thanks again for your help, the set-up does 90% of what I need to do.

Do you still have foobar stopping when you start the other player ? I do
not see that in these logs.

To be more precise, with some streams, it is unavoidable that the w:xxx
goes lower. It happens when the stream source only sends small chunks
and, on the other side, the upnp player is willing to buffer a lot of
data: the player "requires" data to sq2u but sq2u has not received
anything "new" from LMS, so it has to "wait". On my setup, and with
foobar2000, the worse is a 64kb/s mono info radio station that sends
packets by 5~10kB each time, in that case, the wait time can be up to
30*50=1.5s, but a max of 100 is still fine and I can have the 5 players
working in parallel. For local audio file, it shall never go below
5*50=250ms

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] announce: squeeze2upnp, a bridge between LMS and uPNP devices

2015-03-21 Thread PasTim

The mystery of the parameter on my system.

If I run with the default (value ?) it runs fine with my firewall on.
The log reports using port 49153 at the start, and mentions 8080 for the
player. Note that port 49153 is not open for incoming packets in my
firewall.

If I run with 192.168.1.10:49153 it runs if the firewall is off but not
if on. Further, if on, disabling the firewall doesn't work until sq2u
is restarted. My MF renderer reports 'track not found' (my Marantz
doesn't play either).

If I run with 192.168.1.10:49152 it won't run at all, whether the
firewall is on or off. I stopped my other servers (minimserver and the
LMS UPnP server that I use for video and photos) but that made no
difference.

I hope that's clear, even if incomprehensible. 3 logs attached one with
no ip port, one for 49153 with firewall on, and one for 49152 firewall
off.

I also found a small problem that might explain the crash you observed:
you have a password for accessing LMS, and in that case sq2u cannot get
the metadata and forward them to the upnp player. Of course, it does not
matter for the Beep, but it was leading to random crash by using
un-initialized strings. Fixed in dev version - I will push it quickly to
stable, but I'm waiting for confirmation wrt some changes I made on 24
bits sample handling

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Custom Library problem

2015-03-21 Thread Phil Meyer
A while back someone reported that Custom Library plugin was not working with
LMS 7.9. It seems to count songs in each custom library correctly when the
libraries are refreshed, but upon selecting a library and browsing into it, it
always reports empty.

I noticed the same. I had a library defined to only show unrated tracks but it
no longer works.

So I wondered how I could create a library to filter on trackstat ratings. I
thought advanced search results saved as a library were stored in preferences
as sql queries, but I can't find them.

I had a look at Custom Library plugin, but can't see where it is going wrong.

I did find another potential problem with libraries filtering on path name,
where spaces exist in the path, as it uses sprintf and "%20" appears in the url
instead of a space, so it expects more parameters to satisfy the sprintf input
string.

Advanced search has a filter on rating, but I guess this is a different
database field to trackstat ratings, as it doesn't find any tracks with ratings.

It is clear but very strange - I tried on my Linux box (a VM, no fw) and
my Win7 box (fw), with various port, including the default one and it
all worked. I put on purpose a wrong IP address, and in that case, the
upnp stack does not initialize (error -208). It is even more strange
that you have it running w/o opening 49153 ! The fact that is does not
run on 49152 even w/o fw seems logical because obviously something is
already on 49152 (probably some other app using libupnp), that why sq2u
choses 49153 and not 49152 at startup. You should have a look at open
ports with a "netstat -tulpn"

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Qobuz.com streaming plugin

2015-03-21 Thread CommanderROR

@mherger

Thanks. I managed to figure out the log-limit, but it won't allow more
than in the webview. That does give me a better chance of looking
at the "big picture", but sadly I still can't find the "missing link",
which is the place where it SmartMix sends so. Something to Qobuz... Or
maybe I'm just not seeing it. Lots of info coming in from Qobuz, with
cover files and everything, and then after a lot of that, it suddenly
fails. I don't get it... Like I said... Missing link... ;)

Maybe somebody else can look into the log and see where it fails and
why. I just can't imagine Qobuz returning 0 results for 200 queries,
especially since the first 200 pages in the log look pretty promising to
my untrained eyes...

Everything in the section can be repeated under each
section to override default parameters.

Increasing can be a problem because there is a set of
threads in sq2u (using libupnp) and each thread has a queue of jobs.
Threads are running in //, but within one thread, jobs run one after the
other. Waiting for data from LMS is in a job and that might lock other
pending jobs. This is a libupnp function, not something I wrote so I'm
not 100% sure, and looking at the code did not fully confirmed the risk.
But you can try, some have increased that parameter above 200 with
success. Still, the reason why I'm cautious is that starting another
player should not have the consequence you experience, I fee there is a
problem somewhere else. But, try 200 and if this is still happening,
then I'll have to find out the real cause.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: BBCiPlayer Plugin (UK only)

2015-03-21 Thread Owen Smith

I've switched almost entirely to using iPlayerExtras for Listen Again
(thanks for your work bpa), for two reasons. First, it plays Radio 3 at
320kbps AAC which sounds so much better than the 128kbps max from HLS.
Second, iPlayerExtras appears to have between 3 and 4 weeks catchup
window depending on which programme I'm looking at whereas iPlayer is
just a bit over 7 days. I assume the BBC did not extend the official XML
feed that Triode uses when the catchup window was extended, but it's a
bit poor of them not to.

I appreciate that Triode is working under constraints of official XML
feeds and agreements with the BBC and he has to do that to stay on the
BBC's good side (such as it may be). And it is entirely the BBC's
decision to remove 320kbps AAC Listen Again for HLS.

It is part of the flexibility of LMS that there is room for
iPlayerExtras which can plug these gaps.

netstat -tulpn does report the server is listening on 49152 and 49153,
but doesn't say which process it is.

I have stared at my firewall settings again, and now see that I have a
whole range open between 3 and 6 for my local network (I misread
the relevant IP as being 192.168.1.22, whereas it is actually
192.168.0.0/22. Apologies for my previous error.

So 49152 is being used by something else - that's fair enough. But why
won't 49153 work then with the firewall on, whereas ? does work?

I give in, for now at least. I had imagined the ports needed for UPnP
would be fairly clear, but that does not seem to be the case. It's
obvious I don't understand what is using which ports for what between
the three elements of the set up. I know you wrote something up a while
back, but then I find more strange addresses (eg the multicast one)
being required. Maybe I am just crazy.

LMS 7.9 on VortexBox Midi, Xubuntu 14.04, FLACs 16->24 bit,
44.1->192kbps. LMS & Squeeze2upnp to MF M1 CLiC (to MF amp & ESLs) &
Marantz CR603 UPnP renderers. Minimserver (server) & upplay (control
point) to same renderers & to upmpdcli/mpd PC renderers. Squeezelite to
Meridian USB Explorer DAC to speakers/phones. Wireless Xubuntu 14.04
laptop with firefox/upplay or Android 'phone with
Squeeze-Commander/BubbleUPnP controls LMS/Minimserver. Have a Touch
with EDO, and a spare, but don't use.

If you sudo netstat, it should give you the process name on all ports -
and I don't think you're crazy :)
