Free you can also enable/disable shuffle and repeat, ask for
now-playing/duration/state, plus power on/off.

If you want to ask for a particular song/album/genre/playlist/favorite
to be played on a Squeezebox or an Echo, you need a subscription. That
then also gets you synchronization, sleep, transfer/follow-me and
library querying. The list of commands starts here (* denotes premium):

Does it connect OK if you use the IP Address rather than the name?

I had this once, too. Did you try killing SLX's process tree and then
restarting it? I think that's what I did. Maybe a reboot.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] 'MediaServer' *certified* Alexa skill for LMS

2019-12-10 Thread philchillbill

One thing I hadn't yet got around to doing was trying out Philippe's
excellent Group Players plugin with the skill :o

I can confirm it works flawlessly. I created a group player called
Downstairs with 3 members and asked Alexa to discover my players. There
was indeed a new virtual player called Downstairs. Asking to play an
album '... on the downstairs player' started playback on the group, as
expected. With the plugin option 'Synchronize to Group Players' ticked,
I asked Alexa to 'add the office player to the group' and it was indeed
added in. Basic stuff like changing group volume and transport commands
also just worked as expected.

If anybody playing with this functionality finds any corner cases
needing tweaking, please let me know.

I looked for a similar case in the forum, but found nothing. All my
attempts to use the new speaker with the bridge fail. (My two old
speakers, with the same firmware, still work.)

I installed iTunes on my PC to see if I had a problem with my network or
with the speaker itself. Streaming local music to my PC, via iTunes,
works properly. It's incomprehensible...

So, there may be an incompatibility between the bridge, my network and
this speaker?

That does not bother me too much, because this new speaker is destined
to be offered at Christmas. It will then be used on another network
with, this time, the Chromecast bridge.

FYI, when I say that I did not find anything on the forum, it is not
quite accurate. There is a message I posted myself last year for another
Riva Arena speaker that I have never managed to run at my home with the
Airplay bridge or the Chromecast bridge. No solution was identified at
that time. I did not really insist because last Christmas, I gave this
speaker to my parents, and once installed in my parents' house, it
worked the first time with the Chromecast bridge. It still works there!

I did not explain the cause of the malfunction last year. I still do not
explain it this year. It's very weird!

No idea ?

I really don’t know. Have you tried to enable encryption in the plugin
settings? That the only cause that comes to mind if all is working fine
except that no sound is produced. Other that that, if you can get me the
mdns characteristics (see my mdns listener in my other github
repositories) with debug details, I might be able to spot a difference
between your different Riva

Yeah the 128 sounds good on my SB3. The content is exceptionally well
curated, have not found Jazz channel I’ve liked nearly as well. Their
fund raising campaign is pretty heavy though right now. If I could get
cd quality on SB3, I’d gladly kick in for the premo subscription.

The helper needs to access LMS using the Command Line Interface (CLI) to
gather metadata and then forward them to the CC. When you use a
password, the CLI access is denied and I do not (and will not) support
using a password, so you'll miss a lot of capabilities, especially
metadata. Having said that, I strongly advise against opening an
unsecure WAN port. The password of LMS has no security, see
