Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] announce: ShairTunes2W - Airtunes on LMS (forked version with Windows support)

2020-07-13 Thread chincheta0815

I just installed LMS 8.0 with the ShairTunes2W plugin on Raspberry Pi OS
64-bit.

LMS is running fine, all binaries work out of the box from the
github.com/Logitech repository. I use the branch public/8.0.

After installing ShairTunes2W I get the log message that
Crypt::OpenSSL/RSA/autosplit.ix is not in @INC.

This puzzles me a little bit, as all coded in Plugin.pm seems to be
correct...
Only difference: the arch reported by perl-5.28 is named
"aarch64-linux-gnu-thread-multi" and not "aarch64-linux-thread-multi"

So before any complete logs etc the first question:

Do I have to respect any dependencies I have to download from apt?
Do the perl modules in the packaged "elib" folder need to be rebuild?

Thanks - it was more unintended consequences from not really knowing

I'm sorry, I did not realize. If gapless is a very important feature for
you, then I recommend you use the "flow" option in the transcoding.
Select flac as transcoding format and next to that click 'flow'. Now all
tracks are joined together in a single looonng stream. This give you all
replay gain, perfect gapless, cross-fade and LMS goodies, at the expense
of metadata not being sent to the player.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Material Skin

2020-07-13 Thread prabbit

I have been thinking about this issue for a few days and I do not have a
good answer. I do want to add my voice to the conversation though. The
discussion about different use cases and what the words mean to
different people who use the product has been interesting for me to
watch. I see this often in my job. Product developers and engineers are
sometimes surprised when they encounter users who struggle with their
products, since it's obvious to them what things mean and do. They also
want to get on to the next new shiny thing and not fix something that
clearly is working for them or from a technical point of view.

The issue in front of us is about "move" versus "copy" and how to best
expose those for the user, how to maintain the code, and translations.

This is complex; it's not complicated. Human language is complex in ways
that programming languages are not. Programming is complicated, in that
it may take many technically-challenging moving parts to construct, but
when done (even incorrectly!), you'll always get the same result. Human
languages are different. Nuance and synonyms breed complexity, and
that's with just a single source language and says nothing about
cultural or translation issues.

The fact that "move" and "copy" technically complete the same action of
transferring the queue from one player to another (or group) but do so
differently is not a technical problem. It requires that we define the
terms "move" (as destructive) and "copy" (as non-destructive) and agree
on those definitions. That much appears to be done.

For obvious and good reasons, Craig (presumably) wants easy-to-maintain
code. Regardless of his own personal use case preferences, he (again,
presumably) also wants to produce a product that is pleasant to use. (It
is!) It's also a hobby rather than a paying job, except for those who
have donated. (And how many Material users have actually donated?! And
even if we all have, it's not like Craig has earned enough to retire
comfortably. So this is a labor of love...or labour of love.)

There are competing priorities here. Every developer wants clean,
easy-to-maintain code; however, that should be balanced against
easy-to-use user experiences (UX) and user interfaces (UI). Many
definitely feel that the Material interface is pleasant from both a UX
and UI perspective; I know I have basically stopped using my other apps
and use Material almost exclusively since installing it.

If 'move' and 'copy' mean and do different things, then there should be
two different commands. That appears to be the case here, except that
Move becomes Copy or Copy becomes Move through the use of a setting.
That can be confusing to users, even if the UI is simplified as a
byproduct. By condensing the two options into a single, changeable menu
item, the UI and code remain simple. However, the complexity increased
for the UX for those people who expect a different result. Needing to go
into the settings to change Move to Copy or Copy to Move after we've
already most likely chosen the wrong action is not ideal UX. And that's
even if we remembered we needed to change the setting in the first
place.

The translation burden also increased, since there isn't a way to have
two separate strings. The complexity further increases because the
tooltip text becomes the UI strings in the mobile interface.

So, how does one manage the competing interests here? I don't know. I am
sympathetic to users, including translators, who struggle with the
language in the UI, just like I sympathize with Craig and his desire to
move on to the fun bits of coding and not get bogged down in discussing
the nuance between competing UI space and features.

My use case, like others, is to (almost) always copy. I usually copy
rather than move because I would never leave a player without a queue.
That's my workflow, one that I have used for 13 years. Others clearly
use their systems differently. And that is one of the many strengths of
the Squeezebox ecosystem.

Of course, if there's an easy way allow both Move and Copy to be
independent that is pleasing in the UI, I know many of us would
appreciate it, since sometimes we move, sometimes we copy, and sometimes
we translate.

To be clear, I am not expecting any action or changes in the code. It's
not my project. Again, this discussion is interesting for me from a
professional perspective.

Hi

I am not using shairtunes that often, but sometimes I do (or did).

It is for some reason not working anymore here.

When I play someting on my ipad, and try to send the sound using airplay

- Display of squeezebox shows that it tries to play
- seconds/progress changes for a while, then it "stops playback"
- No sound is there at any point in time

I dont see any indications of errors in the log, only this:

I am runnning ubuntu 20.04 BTW

Okay. If changing the tooltip is out of the question, I think I'll go

No, I'm not going to change the tooltip depending upon mode - too much

Maybe it would be easier if the tooltip changes to whatever is selected.
That's what I meant with two strings. But I haven't seen it yet, so I'll
wait and see for myself before commenting blindly. It's just something I
stumbled upon when translating the strings.

The "Transfer" string is the tooltip for the button. There are two
strings in the dialog - move or copy.

Would it be possible to use two strings here, depending on what is
selected? "Transfer" is a bit confusing as it's just another word for
"move" but not copy, isn't it?

OK, thats it. 96 kHz files, and also other samplingrates, are played by the
Lumin now. But switching from PCM to flac for transcoding broke gaples
playback, no matter if I set gaples to yes or force :-(. Seems like it is not

I've attached a newer version of cdda2wav.exe which does not use
cygwin1.dll
This 32-bit msys2 build sees both my ide and usb optical drives on
windows 10 64-bit, whereas the old version only identfies the internal
ide dvdrom.

Code:

C:\>cdda2wav.exe -version
  cdda2wav 3.02a09 (i686-pc-mingw32) Copyright (C) 1993-2004,2015,2017 Heiko

  1,5,0 105) *
  1,6,0 106) *
  1,7,0 107) HOST ADAPTOR

Both drives are listed in the CDPlayer v1.10 settings cd-rom drive drop
down list.

To test if it works for you as well, stop LMS and replace
CDplayer\Bin\cdda2wav.exe. The cygwin1.dll is not needed for the
v3.02a09 build and can also be removed.

One caveat I discovered while testing is that if you connect to the
windows systems using a remote desktop client the scanbus command does
not identify the drive(s) correctly. It's likely a permissions issue
but I didn't explore it further as using VNC or the console worked as
expected. I have not tested it with windows 7.

This is the same error reported here:
https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?112568-LMS-8-0-musicip-not-working&p=981849
This was my fault, sorry. I made a change to the MusicMagic LMS plugin
so that it made 1 call to MIP with all seed tracks, not one call
per-track (and fixed it to use all seed tracks, before it mad 5 calls
with the same seed). This was based upon a change I made in my own
plugin (MIPMixer) - and a copy'n'paste error occurred... Fixed in the
latest LMS8 now.

version installed, and I have no idea if version numbers line up between

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Spotty - 'stalled' stream

2020-07-13 Thread kidhazy

Running Spotty 4.2.0 on LMS Version: 8.0.0 - 1593258969 I've noticed
occasionally the stream appears to 'stall' at the end of a song.

I tend to play via the Spotify Genre's/Mood links.

The stream will play multiple songs successfully, but then I just notice
the music/stream has stalled at the end of a song (still with multiple
songs appearing in the current playlist)

The player web interface and Boom screen still show the song as playing
but it's at 100% complete (eg. remaining duration is 0) and the
indicator is still showing playing.

If I click next-track (either on web or physical Boom remote) the stream
continues.

I see nothing in the error level log, but I'll set Spotty level to debug
and see if I see anything.

But, I'm not sure if it's a network issue on my side, and Spotify stream
issue, or a Plug-in issue.

I was just asking if anyone else has experienced similar stalls at the
end of songs?

Cheers.
