I moved the Radio to a different spot in the kitchen the other day and it's been solid. I think it was just a poor signal that was causing it to disconnect. Not positive. The strange thing was that it never did it while streaming music. And I still don't get why it could never reconnect to the network. How does one roll back to the stock firmware? I've been having nothing but problems keeping the Radio connected to my wifi network. Nothing has changed with the network that worked for years, and other devices are having no issues. The Radio drops off after a period of inactivity and will not reconnect without rebooting. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] What Was That Tune? plugin
Hi Michael. I just discovered this plugin after asking for such a tool in another thread. Very nice. May I suggest a couple of display enhancements? I'm guessing you've just used standard tools to have the output displayed similarly to everything else in the web UI. But it would be nice to have: - Display the album name. Maybe as an option if that isn't desirable by everyone. - An option to force the display of the output in text-only rather than using the current artwork setting. Makes it much easier to scan visually. - And this may go back to an earlier discussion about track lists, but it would be nice to have the individual lines broken into links to the track, artist and album rather than being glommed into just a track link. Or they sync all of their players and it doesn't matter. Are you expecting it to go through all the connected players, find one that's playing music, and bring that one up? No. No firewall or A/V running on the server, either. The server is running Windows 2008 R2 SP1, fwiw. I just shut down every instance of LMS except one and changed its HTTP port to the default 9000. Still didn't have any more luck connecting to that server. But when I created a saved server for it, I was able to connect. And if I start up a 2nd server, also saved, I'm able to switch to that one. That one on port 80. One thing I noticed is that the app displays both named servers and servers that it discovers on each IP address. So in the menu I end up seeing both unnamed and named versions of the same server. Not an issue itself, but I can never connect to the servers only by IP address. Another thing I'm finding is that once the app is unable to connect to one server and is spinning or has timed out, I can't switch to another server, saved or not. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Annouce: Squeeze Control, a squeezebox remote app, is now available for Android
I just purchased the app. It sees all the servers on my network (I'm currently running six instances of LMS, on two different machines.) and I selected the one I wanted in preferences. When I launch the app I get a long spinny, then just a blank menu. In the control bar below, where from the examples I would expect to see a player name, there's nothing. So, it appears that it's not connecting to the server. I tried selecting a different instance of LMS on the other machine, but it doesn't do anything. No spinny, nothing. So far, I'm really liking Squeeze Ctrl. Two small things about the UI: I'm a little surprised that swiping to the left (left to right) doesn't usually take me back up a navigation level, instead requiring the use of the left arrow button. For instance, browsing from My Music into Albums, or from an Album into a track listing. Is there a way to turn off the Clear Playlist verification? [SlimDevices: Plugins] Is there a plugin to easily add a song to an existing playlist?
I'd like to be able to easily add the currently playing song (or even better, any song) to an already existing playlist. For example, I'm listening to an album, hear a song that I'd like to add to my "Best of the 90s" playlist. Or to my "Dinner Music" playlist. I'd like to be able to do this from the web interface, maybe also from my phone running one of the Android apps. Does such a thing exist? Right now, it seems the only way to really do this from an LMS interface is to load the named playlist into the current playlist, browse to the song in the web UI, add it to the current playlist, then save the playlist. If the stream is transcoded from something other than Mp3, it won't have any of the metadata from the original file. But not many people just randomly browse through such the library. On the other hand, search for an album that you've heard of, but don't own, and maybe never even seen ... and you find it in the vast library and can listen to it. That's pretty damned awesome. Does anyone still use Moose? I've been playing with it a bit today. (I think I briefly tried an early version of the program years ago.) ARTISTSORT, ALBUMARTISTSORT, etc. In the 'Cover Chooser' - Is there a way to display text (album title and artist name) by default, without having to mouseover a cover to see it? - Is there any way to scroll the covers other than dragging the scroll bar below the alphanumeric bar? I'm surprised that the mouse wheel doesn't scroll, that left/right arrow keys don't scroll, and that pg up and pg down keys do nothing. - Can the behavior of the alphanumeric navigation bar be changed so that when you click a letter, it simply goes to that letter, rather than adding the letter to the group? If I'm on 'G' and click 'S', I don't want to see albums from artists beginning with _both_ G and S, I just want to go to S. IMO, the ideal would be to make it a part of the standard library scanning. I'm tempted to say no. IMHO the main code should be as lean as possible. That's reasonable. Could I then suggest that you break out 'artist local artwork' into its own plugin? Maybe include that plugin with the server (disabled or enabled, doesn't really matter). By the same logic behind wanting to keep the server lean, you probably don't want plugins that do 10 different things. I think this would be some nice functionality, but I have no need for the remote retrieval of info or images. I'd even be tempted to disable some of the default plugins. I've always thought that should be done anyway. You'll need to create and publish some standard rules for character substitutions of illegal characters in names so that a filename can be derived from all names. For instance, if I have the artist And that's the big pain point in this. Typos, different spellings etc. can be a big pain in the but for this kind of job. That's why the artist.jpg in an album folder has its validity still... I don't think it's that big of a problem. The simplest would be to just remove illegal characters. It is, however, complicated by different file systems and the different rules for characters that are allowed. I don't see how a single artist.jpg file in a folder could work, due to the possibility of having ALBUMARTIST, ARTIST and COMPOSER tags in files. And for compilation albums, where ARTISTs are different, the only option becomes the use of embedded images. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Alternative Web Interface (beta)
Yes, I can also see Preferences now. A couple of suggestions for the layout and 'Info': Seems that when the Info area is minimized/hidden, you could display only the thin bar with the control, and not the thicker 'Info' bar. Maybe better yet, display only a tab-like control in the bottom center, further minimizing the screen real estate this uses when minimized. Instead of the pop-up info when a new track begins playing, why not use the Info area? Some things about Currently Playing: - On the Song tab, Artist is never filled in, but I get a lot of stuff in Contributors. - On the Song tab, the album cover treatment is odd. It's chopped off vertically to fit the space. I would think you'd want to scale it to show the whole cover, then display the full-sized cover on mouseover. Alternatively, you could add a scroll bar to the area where the cover is displayed. - On the Artist/Album tab you need to show the artist name for the albums. When playing a song by two different artists, it lists albums from both of the artists on this tab, but doesn't show who the albums are by. There have been some nice changes, but there's still a lot that can be improved. The biggest for me would be to improve the context menus. For instance, you could add 'Remove' to the context menu for items in the current playlist. More important, though, would be to add Play, Add and Play Next controls to a context menu for any items being browsed. More could be done with cookies, saving things like the user's Album sort order. As it stands now, because of how long it takes to load, how long it takes Albums to fully populate, and because no state is saved, for the UI to be useful, it almost has to be kept continuously open in a browser. It's not something you'd launch to skip a track or to play an album you have in mind. Using the existing web UI is far more convenient for that. Roland0 wrote: I'm not aware of this pop-up - which one do you mean? When dropping something on the Play button, there's a gray popup box labeled 'LMS Info' that appears for a few seconds. I also see it sometimes when double-clicking a different track in the playlist to change tracks, but this is inconsistent. Not sure why cookies should be used for that - preferences are currently saved on the server, and I don't see a good reason to change that Because it then becomes a user setting, rather than server-wide. For something like a list sort order, it also means that you'd change it simply by sorting differently using the UI rather than having to change a preference. It's a remember how I had it setting rather than a do it this way all the time setting. As I noted before: the way the GUI works it simply needs a certain level of performance from the server, or the user experience will be sub optimal. This requirement is not going to change significantly in the future. I think my server is fairly fast. As an example, changing pages while browsing albums in the default in the Default web interface takes just a little over a second with the items per page set at 80 and both artist and year displayed. From postings I've read over the years from others regarding server performance, that's pretty quick. However, my understanding is that this is only a performance issue with Safari - not sure if the scrolling will get smoother. I use Chrome on a fast computer with ample memory. I could be wrong, but I get the impression that the performance issue is on the backend, not the client. Roland0 wrote: Now this is odd - I never had any issue with scrolling speed (I assume you mean fully loaded lists, not on-demand, where server speed matters up until the whole list is cached). I tested this both with Chromium and Firefox on a mid-range desktop (Core i5) and Netbook (AMD-E450), and with all combinations it is instantaneous. It's slightly smoother in the active playlist, but in any list I tried, there is no delay at all. Just for testing, I created a playlist with ~6500 entries: Rendering takes 4sec in Chromium, 2sec in Firefox and after that it's instant access to any position without any noticeable load on the client (if I drag the scrollbar up/down as fast as I can, CPU is ~20%). Same is true for any other list (e.g. album list with 6000 albums, when it has been fully populated by the server) I wonder where this comes from on your setup - does it happen with Chromium and Firefox as well, or only with Safari? Is the CPU the bottleneck? I see the same thing when I'm trying to browse and scroll through 3100 albums. I get several 'Loading...' spinnies, which take about 5 seconds to populate, so it makes it difficult to know where in the album list you are when scrolling. Eventually, if you scroll through the whole list, then it's all loaded and is instantaneous after that. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Alternative Web Interface (beta)
I'm trying this out right now. With long lists it's pretty slow, so I'm not sure it's a workable alternative quite yet. On the client side I'm using Chrome on Windows 7 Pro x64 on an i5-3750K with 16GB. Server is running W2k3 Server 32-bit on a dual-core Xeon with 4GB, running the perl code, not compiled, using ActiveState Perl 5.14.1. My library is ~3100 albums, 37,500 tracks. BUGS (?): - The playlist display always remains blank, although songs can be added and played. - Under 'Currently Playing', only the Song tab displays anything, the rest are blank. On the Song tab, the Artist line is always blank. - Information under the tabs when browsing into genres, albums, etc. is often wrong (or seems wrong). It appears to remember/display the last list shown. For instance, if I browse Albums, click an album, then go to the Albums tab, it shows a list of albums for the last artist that I browsed. I would think it should show only the one album being browsed. - The Artists tab in the browse window is always empty. COMMENTS AND SUGGESTIONS: - The interface requires a window that is far too wide in order to fully display all the player controls. It would be better to scale the sliders according to window width, rather than hiding buttons. - There needs to be better way(s) to add music to the current playlist. Again, requiring a window of a certain width in order to show the Play/Add buttons is very cumbersome. A right-click context menu or else hovering buttons might work. - Under Music Library, I find the drill-down aspect of the user interface to be somewhat unintuitive, although I do see how it currently works. Either a 'Back' button or maybe some kind of breadcrumbs would make it easier and more obvious how to get back after drilling into a level. - It might be helpful if mousing over a string in the browse window could display a tooltip with the full string, for when the string is truncated due to the window/column not being wide enough. Some delay before doing this would be good. - A 'Play Next' playlist control would be invaluable. - I can see little use for a track N of M slider. Wouldn't anyone moving to a certain track in the playlist just use the vertical scroll bar and then click the track? (I assume that's what you do, since I can't see the current playlist.) - In the Albums lists, I'd prefer that the 'Compilation: Yes/No' line not be displayed. It just makes the list busier and more difficult to read. - I think most people would prefer album lists sorted by artist to be sorted by artist/date/album, not artist/album. - When browsing Genres, I think most people would prefer to first see either an album list sorted by artist, or else an artist list, not tracks by title. - In track lists I find the pop-up artwork to be annoying. Perhaps you could only have it only pop-up when the mouse is hovering over the album name? Or make the delay time longer before the cover is displayed. - The cover window doesn't need to move relative to the mouse position. A helpful feature (ala LMS Default web UI) would be to allow the user to click the cover and have it displayed in its own window. - I find it difficult to 'grab' a column divider in the browse window to resize columns. - If possible, you should add a browse Album Artists in addition to Artists. Something sorely missing from LMS. - As other's have mentioned, the ability to drag-and-drop a genre/artist/album/track directly into the playlist would be a good addition. What determines which LMS server Squeezelite connects to when launched? I have several instances of SBS and LMS on my network, one of which I consider the 'main' server. I'm running Squeezelite on a Win7 desktop and normally sync it with two hardware Squeezeboxes on the network, connected to that main server. But each time Squeezelite is launched it connects with a different server (always the same one, it seems), failing to remember which server it was last connected to. My hardware Squeezeboxes tend to remember and always reconnect to the most recently used server.
