[SlimDevices: Plugins] SuperDateTime Plugin Problem ?

2009-01-25 Thread Rantech

I have recently switched my Squeezecenter install from my desktop to my
Laptop computer but the SuperDateTime Plugin is not working on the
Laptop.

Squeezecenter reports that the plugin is installed and there is a
checkmark beside it on the Settings/Plugins page but if I click on
the setting link to configure it all I get is a blank screen.
Likewise, if I bring up the player and select the dropdown list item
for SuperDateTime, I just get a blank screen.

I'm running Squeezecenter 7.2.1 with the 5.8.2 plugin. This is the
exact same combination I was using on my Desktop computer (both
computers Win XP Pro SP3) and it worked just fine on that computer.

Anyone have any ideas why the plugin isn't working ?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] IR Blaster (Repeater) Locks Up

2009-01-25 Thread Rantech

Sorry, I hadn't checked back in this thread for awhile and didn't
realize you had left me a further response.

FYI: I switched from a emitter wire with 3 heads to one with 2 heads
and have not experienced a lockup problem since the switch. Now mind
you, about the same time, my Squeezebox did completely pack it and I
had to send it back for a warranty replacement so perhaps I had a unit
with a real physical problem.

I might try hooking up the 3 head emitter cable again and see if the
problem comes back. If not, it was the SB, if it does then it's the
cable.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] IR Blaster (Repeater) Locks Up

2008-02-11 Thread Rantech

In answer to your questions

- I'm using IR Blaster (with IR Repeater turned on)
- The lock up occured at 18:44 and then I didn't get round to reseting
(power cycling) the SB until 21:09.
- I have the SB set so that when it turns on I power up the amp and
then if I need to, I use the original remotes for the amp and DVD
player to control the other functions. If I'm just listening to the SB
then I just use the SB remote.
- The TV is controlled by its own remote which does sometimes lock up
the SB. However, its remote never came into play during this lockup.
- When the SB locks up, the SB works fine; just the IR output function
stop working. The heads on the flashers go to a solid light which
indicates they are receiving a continuous signal from the SB (as
opposed to just lighting up when the SB picks up a IR signal from a
remote). I think this means that the SB has disabled the IR functions
and the output jack has gone back to being a headphone output - I'll
test this next time it happens.

My current thinking is that the problem is likely at the hardware level
and because the cable has three heads which the SB has to power, it is
drawing more power than the SB can supply and it is causing a hardware
problem on the headphone output ?

I've attached more of the log file from around that time. I don't
remember exactly what I was doing when it locked up but it was either a
command on my integrated amp remote or on my DVD remote; either
adjusting volume or changing the track I was listening to ?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] IR Blaster (Repeater) Locks Up

2008-02-07 Thread Rantech

Well, the IR Blaster functions locked up again but this time I was able
to check the log and there is nothing unusual recorded.

One question ...

I'm using a flasher cable that has three heads in order to blast
signals to an Int. Amp, a DVD Player and a Satellite TV Box. Is it
possible that all this is too much load for the Squeezebox and it is
crashing out (a hardware problem as opposed to a software problem) ?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] IR Blaster (Repeater) Locks Up

2008-01-27 Thread Rantech

Sorry, I do appreciate the help.

Rather than mess around with SS 6.5.4 anymore, I've installed the beta
of Squeezecenter 7.0 and the corresponding IR Blaster plugin to see if
that solves the problem.

If nothing else, at least Squeezecenter 7.0 tells you exactly where the
log files are kept.

I'll let this go for a few days and see if the problem recurrs and if
so, I'll be able to access the log files in order to forward them to
you.

Thanks

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] IR Blaster (Repeater) Locks Up

2008-01-25 Thread Rantech

There wasn't a slimserver.exe file on my computer so I checked the Wiki
and the instructions were to

- change to the slimserver\server directory
- run slim.exe --d_source --d_plugins

I followed these instructions but it does not work. I keep getting the
error message There is already another copy of the Slimserver running
on this machine even though I have very definitely stopped slimserver
prior to trying to load it from the command line.

All this trouble because Slimdevices doesn't publish the location of
the log file . urg

I don't know if my frustration level can withstand much more of this.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] IR Blaster (Repeater) Locks Up

2008-01-21 Thread Rantech

Well, I can't find the slimserver log file. I searched my drive for
slimserver.log but nothing. I tried search for *.log and then
sorting by date and looking at the names but nothing looked promising.
Lastly, I looked at the recent log entries in the debug window in
Slimserver and then tried a text search for a string of text from the
recent log entries - I searched within all the files on my drive for
this text string but found nothing.

Unless someone can help me with where to find the log file, I guess I'm
at an impass and will have to look at going out and buying a standalone
IR receiver/transmitter kit?

The problem is not as consistent as I orginally thought and I can't tie
it to any specific remote function as I orginally thought I could but it
does lock up regularily and randomly and I have to power cycle the
squeezebox to clear the situation.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] IR Blaster (Repeater) Locks Up

2007-12-30 Thread Rantech

I'm having a problem with the IR Blaster Plugin frequently locking up.

I have a Squeezebox that is using the IR Repeater function to control
an integrated amplifier and a DVD player which are hidden in a cabinet.
I have a wall mounted Sony LCD TV (model KDL-40V3000).

When I start slimserver and then start the SB, the IR repeater
functions perfectly with the Amp and the DVD player. However, if I use
the TV remote control (which is not intended to go through the IR
repeater ), the SB sees the signal and the IR Blaster/Repeater function
locks up. The only way to clear the lockup and get IR Blaster/Repeater
working again is to power cycle the SB. When I do this, it starts
working fine but then as soon as I use the TV remote again, it locks
up.

The IR emitter I use has a red light that lights up when it is
transmitting a signal and when I first power up the SB, the emitters
are dark. When I use the Amp or DVD remotes, the emitters flash red
with each button pushed and everything works fine. As soon as I hit a
problem button on the TV remote, the emitters go to a solid red light
and don't turn off - at this same point, the IR Repeater functionality
stops working.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] IR Blaster not recognized

2007-10-24 Thread Rantech

I couldn't find a config file so I used learned commands. I did note
that the original remote did not have a consistent pattern for either
volume up or volume down. In other words, If I quickly tapped the
button, I got one pattern but if I held the button down for a long
period of time I got a whole series of signal patterns but these varied
- it wasn't just a repeat of the same pattern.

I experimented and kept the first three sequences from a moderately
long hold on the volume control button as this seemed to be the best
compromise. If I kept only one sequence, I got almost no movement from
the volume but if I kept to many sequences then I didn't have very fine
control over the volume increments.

I should point out that my amp always resets volume to zero when it
shuts off and it uses a mechanical drive on the volume knob to adjust
volume via remote. I was in the middle of bringing the volume up to
normal listening level (so I had been holding down the button for
awhile) when the amplifier stopped responding. It was moving and then
just stopped. At that point, I tried to turn the volume down
(nothing), tried to turn it off (nothing), tried the original remote
(via IR repeater but nothing) and then removed the IR emitter and tried
the original remote (nothing). I tried powering down and turning on
again and tried various combinations of devices but always nothing ...

You can see why I think the emitter had something to do with it as I
was in the middle of executing a command when it stopped working - but
I also find it very difficult to imagine that any IR signal could
physically damage an IR receiver ...

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] IR Blaster not recognized

2007-10-23 Thread Rantech

The amplifier has power and all the hard buttons and controls work, it
just no longer responds to either the IR emitter nor the original
remote control. I did try new batteries in the original remote but it
made no difference.

I tried powering down and unplugging for awhile and then hooking up
again but this didn't make any difference. I even opened up the unit
to look for obvious loose connections but there was nothing to be
found.

Anyway, I boxed the amp up today and have shipped it back to the
distributor for repairs but I doubt I'll hook up the IR emitter when I
get it back just in case it somehow damaged the amp.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] IR Blaster not recognized

2007-10-22 Thread Rantech

I hate to ask this but I'm going crazy trying to get SlimServer 6.5.4 to
recognize the IR Blaster Plugin and don't know what else to try ...

Slimserver 6.5.4 on a Windows XP Pro machine running IE 7. First I
downloaded IRBlaster_06_08_09_v37.zip and copied the unzipped files
to the Program Files\Slimserver\Server\Plugins directory. I then
closed and restarted Slimserver but the plugin did not appear in the
Server Settings Plugins list. After that, I deleted the IR
Blaster folder and I downloaded an older version of IR Blaster
IRBlaster_07_05_31_v413.zip. I unzipped this and copied the IR
Blaster folder to the Slimserver\Server\Plugins director then exited
and restarted Slimserver but again I had no luck in finding the IR
Blaster Plugin in the Server Settings - Plugins list.

I have tried shutting down the computer and doing a complete cold
reboot but it made no difference.

Can anyone advise what I'm doing wrong or how I get Slimserver to
recognize the IR Blaster Plugin?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] IR Blaster not recognized

2007-10-22 Thread Rantech

After installing and deinstalling a couple of times and restarting
Slimserver etc., it finally recognized the plugin and all seemed to be
well.

Unfortunately, shortly after getting everything up and running with the
SlimDevices remote turning on the amp and controlling the volume, the
integrated amplifier stopped taking IR signals and will no longer
respond to any remote (even its original remote) ...

The IR Blaster and emitter were working fine and the squeezebox remote
was turning on the amp and then moving the volume up and down then all
of a sudden it just stopped working. I disconnected the emitter and
tried the amps original remote but it just isn't working anymore.

Is there any chance at all that something went wrong and the signal
being sent out by the Squeezebox damaged the IR receiver on the amp or
could it just be coincidence ?
