Anticipating the end of LMS on Synology NAS, I did the same six months
ago: RPI4B 2gb, with Flirc case. Many others on this forum have done the
same, so setup was straightforward. Bonus for me was that I installed a
USB DAC, which my wife and I use in our living room for casual
listening.

If you are interested in podcasts other than from the BBC, search for
podcasts in your browser. Add a subject of interest, thus: "podcasts
classical music RSS feed", "podcasts tropical plants RSS feed", etc. You
are looking for the RSS feed to paste into LMS Podcasts tab in Server
Settings.

Or you can visit a website of a podcast you may have read about in a
newspaper or in newsletter (The Guardian has a weekly podcasts email).
For example, a popular podcast in the U.S. is 99% Invisible
(99percentinvisible.org). From the home page, look for a clue on how to
subscribe to the podcast. I found it by clicking the Subscribe drop-down
menu. One of the menu items is "Podcast RSS." I copied the URL
(http://feeds.99percentinvisible.org/99percentinvisible) and pasted that
into the "Add a New Feed" box on the podcast plugin in Settings and
clicked the Apply button on the lower-right of the screen to save it.
Return to the LMS Home page and under My Apps click on Podcasts and you
will see "99% Invisible" listed. Click on that to see a list of
podcasts, sorted by latest (Nov. 17, 2020, "In The Unlikely Event").

Hope this is helpful.

I recently acquired a ds216play -- I did not have to update perl before
installing pinkdot's LMS 7.9.0 package for it. I've not tried LMSRepack,
so if you go that route YMMV.

Sorry for the slightly off-topic post. I am a new Synology owner

Handler will not install. I have gone through Synology's official LMS
beta (7.9, January 2017 build); LMSUpdate (March 8 "stable" 7.9 build);
and LMSRepack (April 7.9.1 build). No problem installing and using the
official LMS app: I am logged into my Spotify account and can see all of
my saved albums.

I must be missing something. A gentle nudge in the right direction would
be appreciated.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Annouce: Squeeze Control, a squeezebox remote app, is now available for Android

2016-07-24 Thread TimT

Behavior of the progress bar on my phone is not what I expect.
"Auto-hide Progress Bar" in Preferences > Controls is unchecked. On the
"Now Playing" screen, however, the progress bar is not sticky. For
example, when I leave the app (check my email, etc.) or my screen turns
off and then I return to the app, the progress bar is gone. Tapping the
album cover causes it to (re)appear -- but, should it not have
disappeared in the first place?

Also, another display request: when the current playlist is finished ,
perhaps "Now Playing" should change to "Stopped" or "Ended"?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] WD MyBook Live NAS

2012-01-14 Thread TimT

I am perplexed why you are getting an error message when trying to move
the cache directory from /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache to
/DataVolume/cache/squeezeboxserver.

I tried to create it manually in WinSCP but the permissions were not
the same -- that is why I used the mv command, which replicated the
same r/w permissions (user: squeezeboxserver, group: nobody) as in
/var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache.

much space is needed? And how to increase the disk space if it is

Depends on the size of your library, artwork files... make sure you
have at least 1GB free. Even this can be not enough if you're eg.
scanning photos too (my cache folder alone is 1GB).

Move the folder to a different partition with more disk space
available. Use the cachedir pref/startup parameter to point it to that
 new folder.

 Michael

Perfect, thanks! This is what I did to move the cache on my
MyBookLive:

While in Putty:
1. Login to the MBL using Putty.
2. Purge LMS:
aptitude purge logitechmediaserver
3. Reinstall logitechmediaserver. (see instructions at post #1 of this
thread)
4. Stop the running LMS:
/etc/init.d/logitechmediaserver stop
5. Move the cache directory to the cache directory in the MBL's
DataVolume folder:
mv /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache
/DataVolume/cache/squeezeboxserver
6. Make a copy of the server.prefs file before editing it:
cp /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/prefs/server.prefs
/var/lib/squeezeboxserver/prefs/server.prefs.bak

While in WinSCP:
7. Login to the MBL using WinSCP.
8. In the directory tree, scroll to the server.prefs file. You should
see the backup in that directory as well.
9. Right-click on the server.prefs file and select the Edit option.
10. Search on cachedir . The search term will find three lines in
which the path will need to be changed from
/var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache to /DataVolume/cache/squeezeboxserver.
11. After making those changes, save and close server.prefs.
12. Quit WinSCP.

Back in Putty:
13. Start LMS:
/etc/init.d/logitechmediaserver start
14. Exit Putty.

Now, open the WebUI to your MyBookLive:
15. http://mybooklive:9000/
16. Open Settings and begin scanning your music files. (My scan was
already underway, I just went looking for the results.)

I got a perfect scan the first time.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] WD MyBook Live NAS

2012-01-10 Thread TimT

MBL was throwing off repeated network down and intermittent network
access errors. I think I fixed this problem. Here is how I did it:

1. Enable SSH on the MBL: http://mybooklive/ui/ssh

2. Login to the MBL via Putty to do a factory restore. Move any and all
data stored on the drive to the public share and run the following
command which will perform a factory restore without deleting data:

/usr/local/sbin/factoryRestore.sh noreformat

3. Wait for awhile (30 minutes to an hour?) and then restart the MBL by
pressing the reset button on the drive for four seconds.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] WD MyBook Live NAS

2012-01-09 Thread TimT

I set my scan to not pre-cache artwork (it was hanging up there) and
then purged LMS:

aptitude purge logitechmediaserver

Although the purge will remove configuration files, it will not remove
the preferences folder. So when LMS is reinstalled and the WebUI is
opened for the first time, it retains those preferences.

Commands to reinstall LMS:

MyBookLive:~# cd /shares/Public
MyBookLive:/shares/Public# dpkg -i
logitechmediaserver_7.7.2-33765_all.deb

Here is the output of the initial and successful scan that launched

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] WD MyBook Live NAS

2012-01-06 Thread TimT

I was having scanning problems on the My Book Live on which I did a
clean install yesterday of LMS 7.7.1.

This afternoon, I uninstalled LMS 7.7.1 and reinstalled it. Scanned
again, several times, still no joy.

Then, I did two things which resulted in (apparently) a full scan:

1. Created user squeezeboxserver and gave it full r/w access to the
Public share (in which my music files are stored); and
2. Changed the path to the music files from
/DataVolume/shares/Public/Shared Music to /shares/Public/Shared
Music.

I then ran a Clear Library and Scan Everything scan. I watched the
scanning progress: about 22 minutes to scan 8400 music files. Scanned
playlists. Got about halfway through Pre-caching Artwork and stalled on
one album, finally terminating unexpectedly.

Nonetheless, it appears that all my music files have been scanned. I
did disable Pre-caching Artwork in Settings/Advanced.

Let me add: I was previously running LMS 7.7.1 with no scanning
problems on a Asus netbook (Ubuntu 11.04) on the same network.

not run. Any ideas how to do a clean install of lms 7.7.1?

Here is the command for a clean uninstall:

apt-get --purge logitechmediaserver

(If that doesn't seem to work, use dpkg instead of apt-get)

Then follow the steps in this post for doing a clean install of 7.7.1.
