Sounds like a great addition to the Squeezebox ecosystem.

I was looking to see if anyone has done an Alexa-DLNA integration;
there's House Band (US only) which is designed to work with J River
Media center. I see some people have then bridged J River to Sonos.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: BBCiPlayer Plugin (UK only)

2011-04-03 Thread amcluesent

Some while back in this thread I grumbled about fractional second
'glitches' on the Touch when using AAC streams in iPlayer.

The solution for me was to use the File Type config to disable native
AAC and used faad server-side to convert to FLAC.

This worked fine for me.

However, somehow in the process of upgrades the glitches have returned
to the Touch and looking at Task Manager faad isn't a running process.
Rebooted Server but no change.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] UK: BBC HD Sound - BBCiPlayer Support

2011-01-08 Thread amcluesent

I've had AAC transcoded to FLAC server-side for while, think I mentioned
fractional-second glitches earlier in the thread or another thread on
iPlayer. Completely solves the problem for Touch and TP players.
Probably .5% of my ripped files are AAC, so there's no issue there.

I've enabled 'Prefer WMA' and left 'Use AAC' enabled.

That way, Listen Again works at 96Kbbps WMA, as does live Radio 3 HD
streaming at 320Kbps AAC. Stupid BBC, likely they've loaded on more
DRM.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] UK: BBC HD Sound - BBCiPlayer Support

2010-11-06 Thread amcluesent

Touch/Radio process the stream direct and so don't rely on the server
for processing the rtmp or doing the aac decode

That suggested a work-around; I disabled native AAC in File Types so
faad is transcoding to FLAC. The fraction-of-a-second blips and
glitches are now gone from the Touch with the Radio 3 HD stream when
using iPlayer plug-in.

Happy to try debug logs etc.

How well are they working for people and do you get any rebuffering
events?

Very well on a 10Mbps circuit from VirginMedia.

how many people can tell the difference between the live radio 3
stream at 192k and the 320k trial stream?

The 320 stream is louder so flipping A to B is tricky - some peeps have
reported that the 320k stream is being driven into limiting.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Inguz and 7.4

2009-10-04 Thread amcluesent

My experience is that Inguz is pretty much crocked by 7.4.1 - r28761.

I copied the Inguz plugin and binaries from c:\program
files\squeezecenter to c:\program files\squeezebox and restarted
Squeezebox Server. I found that the prefs had been migrated by the 7.4
installers.

The EQ plugin appears in the Plugin listing, and the custom filetypes
have been recognised for each player. The InguzDSP.exe is running when a
track is playing.

However, the Plugins-EQ-Settings screen won't load properly and
there's loads of errors in the server log.

Bottom line, it looks as if an existing config can be migrated to 7.4,

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: BBCiPlayer 0.9 - with UK and Non UK Support

2009-08-30 Thread amcluesent

Can the respective coders improve integration between BBCiPlayer and the
Ignuz DSP?

Ignuz appears to generate its own custom-convert.conf with entries for
every player, identified by MAC address, to initiate the DSP stage.

However, there's no entry for AAC to FLAC, so the iPlayer feed doesn't
get processed for room correction. I patched in a line:

Code:

  aac flc * 00:04:20:07:30:nn
# IF
[faad] -q -w -f 1 $FILE$ | [InguzDSP] -id 00:04:20:07:30:nn -wav
-wavo -d 24 | [flac] -cs --totally-silent --compression-level-0
--ignore-chunk-sizes -

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Experimental BBC AAC/Flash Streams in WAV

2009-08-02 Thread amcluesent

A few points -

+ Been using my TP to switch between the R3 live AAC stream and DAB
radio connected on optical digital in. DAB sounds rather 'thin' in
comparison, but level matching isn't 100%.

+ A few pauses due to rebuffering (I'm on a 2M cable broadband). Is
there a way to up the buffer size?

+ I can't figure out how to prioritise the RTMP stream using the QoS
settings on my D-Link router. Does anyone know the IP range of the BBC
server-farm?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBC iPlayer AAC streams

The issue is whether there is discernible quality difference between
for example, Radio3 WMA at 192kbit/sec and AAC at 192kbit/sec

Radio 3 is streamed at 128kbit WMA, at least now from a clean feed. The
iPlayer feeds are 192kbit AAC, that's a world of difference!

2009-02-07 Thread amcluesent

A poll associated with this post was created, to vote and see the
results, please visit http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=58894

Question: Why do you use Custom Browse ?

- I need to be able to browse multiple libraries
- I need to be able to browse composers or conductors separately
- I need it to be able to filter the contents of albums, artists or
  genres menus
- I need an itermediate A-Z menu before showing artists or albums for
  a specific letter
- I need to be able to browse custom tags
- The standard browse menus can't be configured as I like them
- I need to be able to browse decades
- I need more flexible browse menus to browse classical or jazz music
- I use it because it exists but the standard browse menus works good
  enough
- Some other reason

For sure, it's the support for classical music.

Composer A-Z then name browse is essential for me.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Beta version of SvrPowerControl

2008-08-11 Thread amcluesent

Couple of things for me -

1) Running on Vista 32-bit with 7.2 nightly, the application
'PsShutdown' isn't there in the standard build. Get the PsTools
collection from TechNet and install in C:\Windows.

2) A weird thing. Vista power profile is set without any sleep timer,
but a press on the power button will put it to sleep and keyboard will
wake it up and it'll stay running.

I found that if I sleep the system using SvrPowerControl, then use WOL
from the SB3 the machine will stay on while SB3 is active. A few
*seconds* after stopping playout on the SB3, Vista goes back to sleep.
AFAIK the 'idle player' watchdog is disabled.

To double-check, open the file in foobar2000, right-click on the file
and select Properties. In the metadata tag you'll get a list of tags,
which should include PERFORMER with the value you set.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Wave Input plugin v1.00

2007-06-02 Thread amcluesent

Need some advice on debugging my set-up, no sound is coming from the SB3
after the 'buffering...' messages after selecting Wave In :(

System is :

SlimServer Version: 6.5.3 - 12144 - Windows XP - EN - cp1252
Server IP address: 192.168.2.8
Perl Version: 5.8.8 MSWin32-x86-multi-thread
MySQL Version: 5.0.22-community-nt

wavin2cmd -l output:

SonicFury(tm)
Modem #0 Line Record
C-Media Wave Device
Bluetooth Audio

I've set the SonicFury Record Source as Stereo Mix; using Windows
SoundRecorder I can record in loopback no problem (e.g. what foobar2000
is playing).

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Classical music example with Custom Browse/Custom Scan ?

2007-05-27 Thread amcluesent

This demo of the search on the Fortuna Classical Maestro
(http://www.fortunaclassical.com/5-3-06/maestro/interface.cfm?movie=search)
shows the way forward IMHO.

Also http://reactor-core.org/ogg-tagging.html talks sense about tags
for classical music.

Also agree with posters that song/movement/part are the same thing, and
that there can be one to many of these for each work.

CustomBrowse 1.22

Any pages which have links to Play or Add all seem to be broken.
Example -

Clicking this will stop what is currently playing and blank out the
playlist.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Creating RSS feeds from any source

2007-03-31 Thread amcluesent

As an alternative to writing plug-ins, can the community make use of
Dapper (nothing to do with Ubuntu) to create RSS feeds?

Check out
http://dapper.wordpress.com/2006/06/23/dapper-unleash-your-creativity/
on how Dapper works.

So long a web-site produces information in a standards format, Dapper
can collect the information and play it out as an RSS feed (plus other
formats) which I assume could be displayed via the slimserver.

V1.5 should be along...

Kewl. A quick question, is the MC12-MC2Slim-Slimserver integration
based on passing requests to play a file with the actual digital stream
*only* going from slimserver to the SB/Transporter?
